As discussed, a new thread for people who want a bit of a boost to their health. The suggested rules are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEG EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Sign up below and if we enjoy it I will start a new thread each Monday. Post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Useful info here about what constitutes a portion of fruit or vegetables.

skin as thin as a kiwi fruits.......can dish it out, but..

been up for 1hr and avoided any healthy substances...- it's a talent in itself!!!

NotQuiteCockney · 10/08/2006 11:52

Had dried fruit with museli, two nectarines. So at 3 already.

(Oh, forgot I ate a whole raw carrot yesterday. And I had two slices of melon before bed, so absolutely made 10 yesterday.)

NotQuiteCockney · 10/08/2006 13:01

Oh, and had half an hour's biking already today, and am planning a run, then another half-an-hour's biking. NQC in making her exercise quota shocker.

Charlee · 10/08/2006 13:07

Hi ,had musili for breakfast but also a scone with strawberry jam and cream

But musili had dried fruit so thats one. Been all round tesco and town today. Not sure what meals i have planned for lunch and dinner best go get some lunch now actually looking at the time...........

Pandorasjarboy · 10/08/2006 13:30

Had three fruits already, equaling my miserable score of yesterday...Charlee - can Ibuy some of your exercise credits, please, you dynamo..

Panboy · 10/08/2006 14:59

Sorry NQC-dynamo...

Been bullied by Harveyette into a name-change...(she has no idea of the fear-grip she has..)

Now up to 5 - a personal best!!!

NotQuiteCockney · 10/08/2006 16:33

I'm at 4.

Um, and I just came back from an hour long v. hard run. I hadn't run for a week (foot problems), and hadn't realised how much I was missing it.

About to go pick up the kids, which is another 30 minute bike ride, at least.

So yeah, as expected, I'm struggling (a bit) to make my 10 veg, but overshooting a tiny bit on the exercise.

But I have a veg-heavy meal planned for tea (either shredded cabbage and pork on a bed of chickpea mash, or courgette, cream cheese and pancetta pasta, probably with a side of salad as well) and bought blueberries and cherries and apples today, so will no doubt make my 10 today.

Charlee · 10/08/2006 18:41

Im struggling today! I had an apple so that makes like 2!

I am however having pasta for tea with a sauce packed with veg and a fruit salad courtesy of Sainsburys fresh fruit/salad counter so that should make them up a bit dont know if i will get 10 though oh well still haven't done to bad.

Cleaned out my chickens today thats enerjectic as it gets as i have to crawl through the run after i cleaned it to get to the nest boxes, then i had to chase the buggers around to give them there weekly check up, one of them loves being held the other 3 are not so keen!

I have also lugged a huge great bale or straw and a bag of sawdust the size of me around so lots of weight training - although now i regret it as i pulled the muscles in my tum and now DP is stressing becuase he tells me not to over do it whilst pg

I wont be doing that again! But were both fine me and bub thik i will try some gental walking as excersise tomorrow though.

I think my energy levels are deffo picking up though.

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2006 19:23

I have felt great except for minor headache and the inevitable effects on the digestion

I have had peach, apple, raisins, plums, melon, baked beans (hah! beans count for 1 portion a day apparently), apricots, another apple, corn on the cob (half), and broccoli.

So I need another half portion, which I will have later.

No proper exercise again but did hang around drumming and dancing in the street for quite a while earlier. I must have nearly broken a sweat.

Panboy hah! I do love it when I harangue someone into changing their name. And I had just decided to call you Jarboy instead

Charlee and NQC please take it easy, and I am a bit worried about Charlee's "gental walking". I hope you didn't mean "genital walking" There is no need to take this to extremes

OP posts:
Charlee · 10/08/2006 19:59

FrannyandZooey dont worry im not taking it to extremes, i spoke to my midwife today she said its fine to change my diet as long as i dont cut anything out and get a balance of everything.

It will just be a slow relaxed stroll tomorrow no Genital walking!

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2006 21:05

Was concerned you might have had a prolapse or something

Mind you I think I did some Genital Cycling yesterday but that is a whole other thread

OP posts:
Overrun · 10/08/2006 21:26

I'd like to join if I am not too late?
The portions of fruit and veg shouldn't be too difficult but exercise will be harder. I dash around a lot with the children but no formal excerise.
There is actually some research just out about how excersise is very effective in short bursts as long as they are daily.
Will try and think of some other forms of it apart from walking.

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2006 21:29

Join us, join us, I'll show you around

Now the fruit bowl is over there, please help yourself

Don't mind that strange slumped shape in the corner, that's just Panboy

And on no account is Charlee to be encouraged in her Genital Walking, she has two perfectly good legs after all

OP posts:
Charlee · 10/08/2006 21:30

sigh i was really getting into hat genital walking..................

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2006 21:38

Hat Genital Walking?

Charlee I really urge you to rethink this

that sombrero will never be the same again

OP posts:
Panboy · 10/08/2006 21:56

(rising above Franny..) just had about half a ton of sprouts - as they taste so sh*te, surely they count as double...

FrannyandZooey · 10/08/2006 22:39

Hey nice levitation trick Panboy, was that sprout powered by any chance?

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 10/08/2006 23:00

Hmm, had two servings of cabbage and stuff on chickpea mash. One point for chickpeas, and 3 for cabbage? Maybe? Oh, and a big thing of blueberries, must be 2 points? So that's 6, plus my previous 4, makes 10.

Also had a little bit of alarming Indian sweets, so have heart racing etc etc.

Bit too much exercise today, have mangled right gluteus minimus, not sure how. Probably running again tomorrow, though. One hour of running plus one hour of biking is too much.

Don't blame this thread for the mad exercise thing, though, I've been exercise-mad this year, generally.

Panboy · 10/08/2006 23:01

No. Just good taste!...unlike the sprouts

NotQuiteCockney · 10/08/2006 23:03

Oh, and sprouts taste ok, if you shred them and stir fry them with pancetta etc.

FrannyandZooey · 11/08/2006 07:43

Tell you what, NQC, you do my exercise, and I'll eat your fruit. And Panboy's sprouts.

I've had 4 again for breakfast.

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 11/08/2006 08:36

One for me so far.

I am contemplating not exercising today. Or at least not running. Not sure. Will probably feel like it a bit later.

Panboy · 11/08/2006 09:31

2 so far...and hands off my sprouts, Franny...

NotQuiteCockney · 11/08/2006 09:35

Apparently I am going for a longer run today than I had yesterday. I can feel it coming on. Well, I have no biking planned for today, at least.

Charlee · 11/08/2006 09:40

Morning i am feeking like utter crap today (must be hat genital walking!)

But serously im silling here feeling sorry for myself in my duvet and pj's, its been the 4th night in a row i have had NO sleep at all and at 5 o'clock this moring i finally gave in and got up whilst merrily throwing up everywhere and hiding my thumping head from the sun! So becuase of that i haven't eaten anything yet just drunk a glass of water but brought it back up again

Lovely!

I have however thrown a ton of veg and some pork chops into my slow cooker so thats dinner done

Im going to a theme park tomorrow with DS, DP and the family so a nice veggy and fruity picnic in mind much to DP's disgust

I may drag my sorry but into town today i need to go to the bank anyway so a brisk walk round town in the fresh air will be my excersise and maybe make me feel better.
