As discussed, a new thread for people who want a bit of a boost to their health. The suggested rules are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEG EVERY DAY

(if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion)

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY

(can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more)

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being.

Sign up below and if we enjoy it I will start a new thread each Monday. Post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Useful info here about what constitutes a portion of fruit or vegetables.

going to treat myself to a nice glass of red now, hope I have broken a 10/10 code by saying this! Also spend some time with dh, who is a bit of a MN widow atm
Look forward to hearing all about your days tomorrow

Overrun · 11/08/2006 21:04

meant to say haven't

FrannyandZooey · 11/08/2006 21:07

LOL I wondered how long before someone asked whether wine counted towards their 10

Nothing is forbidden, overrun, we are just aiming to add good stuff to our lives

Started the exercise thing this evening - 20 mins swimming - in a swimming pool......and then 10 mins in the steam room - does the steam room bit count toward the exercise tally?

FrannyandZooey · 11/08/2006 21:18

Ermmmmmm

no

even I know that exercise generally involves moving around

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 11/08/2006 21:19

Oi, be nice to Panboy, he's actually taking, you know, exercise.

I don't think counting a steamroom is sillier than counting websearching/sofasurfing/flossing, as everyone else seems to want to do.

FrannyandZooey · 11/08/2006 21:23

we are experiencing a schism here

and it was all going so well, we were bonding and everything

It was just like The Breakfast Club, and I was going to be Ally Sheedy and come out looking all cute and shy at the end

OP posts:
NotQuiteLouisRiel · 11/08/2006 22:12

So are you eating sugar sandwiches now?

(I thought Ally Sheedy looked better at the start. I thought everyone thought that, honestly.)

NotQuiteLouisRiel · 11/08/2006 22:18

Besides, Ally Sheedy had to sleep with Emilio Estevez. Ugh. Judd Nelson was much hotter.

Panboy · 11/08/2006 22:35

if you read it properly, dahling F., you would have seen I meant I was also swimming in the steam room...looked jolly silly, but it still counts???

Tomorrow out all day with dd, so have to rely on trying to double guess her mischief for exercise....

FrannyandZooey · 11/08/2006 22:35

NQC, of course she looked better at the start

I was just testing

Yes not very keen on any of those Estevez / Sheen type people, but I did not want to get into any comparison with Molly Ringwald, really.

And my bag did used to be like that.

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 11/08/2006 22:37

good lord you are getting very frisky Panboy

is it all the fruit?

I think you should substitute a cold shower for that steam room

OP posts:
Panboy · 11/08/2006 22:40

Will you stop picking on me, please. I am here trying my best and all I get is nasty inuendo and put downs...not sure you are fit to hold office....

NotQuiteLouisRiel · 11/08/2006 22:40

Oh, I think I'm at 12 now (courgettes, blueberries, apples). Tomorrow my ILs are coming to visit, and maybe we'll go buy some clothes for gifts for holidays, and for the kids for the holidays. Might go to Borough Market and get food, too, dunno.

What is it about comparisons with Molly Ringwald that bother you? I always knew people who thought Ally Sheedy was prettier than Ringwald anyway. I think? Haven't seen that film for ages.

NotQuiteLouisRiel · 11/08/2006 22:41

Hey, does knitting count as exercise in this universe?

Panboy · 11/08/2006 22:44

NQLR - yes, it does.

and I am too young to know the Breakfast Club. Was it fibre and Vit c based?

NotQuiteCockney · 11/08/2006 22:48

I don't think people who are too young for the Breakfast Club are old enough to breed yet?

Panboy · 11/08/2006 22:53

Eeermmm , " I think I was just an early developer, miss."....

FrannyandZooey · 12/08/2006 06:27

I have been being unkind (in a witty, bantering, affectionate way) to a child

Now let's backtrack a little

Precisely how old are you, Panchild?

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 12/08/2006 07:34

Hmm, we should have guessed, what with "boy" being in his name.

FrannyandZooey · 12/08/2006 07:39

I asked him if he was over 18! It is an offence to banter in a Carry On style with a minor?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 12/08/2006 07:39

erm, that should have been is it...

OP posts:
Panboy · 12/08/2006 07:52

I have witnessed the passing of 23 summers...hoping you are not. This MAY qualify me as 'young flesh', as you so delicately put it???

and I love to spark with you ! (the mock hurt was part of it..) - do not take it seriously - I have skin as thick as a particular-child-guru-whose-name-shall-not-be-mentioned....

and thank you for increasing my fruit intake..I do like to benefit from the experience of an older woman....

Offski with dd ALL day (to Birmingham!) - be good.

FrannyandZooey · 12/08/2006 10:28

Ha HAH yes that is young, isn't it, NQC? Lovely. Go and watch the Breakfast Club straight away, though. It's your homework. (you can watch the Graduate, afterwards, if you haven't seen that either )

Right, next nosey question. Are you British?

Charlee is it raining where you are? I hope you get to have your picnic.

I've had 6 portions already.

Hi everybody! My calves are really hurting me, which is a worry after 10 minutes of moderate exercise, although I suppose steps up do really use those muscles.
Shame I missed the breakfast club discussion, but just for the record I would have been in line with most of you, Ally Sheedy over Molly and yes she looked better before the makeover. Now that I have got that off my chest.
So far, fruit and fibre, which I will count as one, grapes, apple, so 3
