Hello all! New thread as we have almost filled the last one. Help yourself to chocolate chip muffins from the trolley! :)

Sounds like a good evening foofoo.

Mas well done on swimming.

Am home SmileSmileSmileSmile which is lovely but up with the steroid/post op insomnia.
Had really useful chat with specialist nurse where we discussed my various aches (a lot of which are post op nerve damage so will take time), best way to mend( building up walking, then swimming but resting a lot as she said lower back ops are notorious for how tired you get). It was very helpful and reassuring.

On second op, the view seems to be no at minute but they are reviewing again today. Also even if say no today , they may well want to review in a few weeks to check spine stable. I am just going to try to focus on enjoying being home. I can't tell you how much easier it feels tho I obviously have the inevitable recovery.

Brew And greys anatomy now (kitkat am about. 1/3 thru series 3). I wonder if that will make me dose off before little gigs are up.

kitkat1967 · 20/08/2013 06:40

Hi gig - I'm on series 3 disk 5 episode 1 and Meredith's annoying ness is reaching new heights. Don't if you're there yet but it's the 3rd episode about the ferryboat crash. Other than that I'm still loving it and it def kept me sane when in hospital.
Glad you're home but shame you didn't get a good sleep. I'm only up as dh gets up at 6 so woke with him - which for me is a good sign as it means I slept OK until then. I hate steroid wakefulness - only bonus is extra greys anatomy I guess!!!

kitkat1967 · 20/08/2013 06:44

Oh and my 'super day' ended with a crash yesterday as washing machine will not empty. And I love getting the washing done!!! Looked on internet and have some things to try but will have to wait for dh tonight - in the meantime I have to look at my full wash basket!!

malteserzz · 20/08/2013 07:36

Morning all
Gigs really glad you're home, hope you continue to recover. Didn't see you at 5 this morning I must have been asleep !
Kitkat shame about the washing machine
Mas swimming sounds great, you did well to do that many lengths

Woke up a bit down, think this is time I had steroid crash last time so must remember that. Also hair is nearly gone and I don't look like myself. And had back ache in the night so feel tired. Chill out day today I think. Must remember that this will pass
Tried wig on again last night and it's ok but does keep slipping back and j can't get the idea out of my head that I look like rod Stewart !

kitkat1967 · 20/08/2013 07:48

Ah malt - I can't believe your hair has gone so suddenly when you were OK yesterday. I think you just have to use to move forward - you will no longer have to worry about is going to happen with it. If you're not happy with your wig ( which is lovely!!) perhaps you could try a scarf.

malteserzz · 20/08/2013 07:48

I'm sorry for moaning, people are going through a lot worse

malteserzz · 20/08/2013 07:51

Thanks Kitkat I didn't expect it to go so quick, there is still some there but hardly any
Wish the kids were back at school so I could have the day to get used to it, ds and his friends are in and out all day and I feel self conscious

kitkat1967 · 20/08/2013 07:51

malt moan away - everyone needs a moan sometimes.
It'll be me in a few days as I am already slightly hysterical about Thursday's chemo - this time the memories have not faded at all.

Gigondas · 20/08/2013 07:54

It's ok to moan- sure wig doesn't look like rod stewart malt. Have you got one of those hairnets that go underneath as that stops them slipping. frankly I would go with a day mooching and feeling sorry for yourself as if that's how you feel, don't pretend not to.

Kitkat - am bit behind as they have just done men's camping trip (which of course ended with lots of Meredith hair flicking). Grr about washing machine as that would bug me.

Haven't been back to sleep yet but may nap when kids out later.

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/08/2013 07:55

it must be a horrid thing though malt as i know how much your hair meant to you - I think the wig looks brilliant and I guess needs just a few wears in to get used to it- you are allowed to mourn it's loss.
Glad you're home gig - the recovery bit must seem very daunting of course..hope 2nd op won't be needed.
Am seeing one of my closest pals today-coming from lovely Brentford -will go out to lunch - I told her to come by train so we can have Wine

Gigondas · 20/08/2013 08:15

Sounds lovely mas. Recovery more common sense and it is good to focus on.
Kids brought me back a mummy pig tee shirt from peppa pig world - kind of thing you wouldn't mention on a and b Wink. Mini keeps coming round to kiss the picture as loves it. A week away and she is totally peppa pig (and badger) mad.

malteserzz · 20/08/2013 08:42

I've got just a normal hairnet to go under it, not sure if I'll wear wig today or just brave my very thin hair as I'm not going out
Think we need to see a pic of the t shirt !
Mas sounds like a perfect day enjoy :)
Kitkat which cycle will this be ?
Betsy hope you have a lovely break away

Going to drag myself out of bed to get some breakfast

Gigondas · 20/08/2013 08:46

The nets are thicker so sit better than a hair net. See here

Will try to get a pic later.

kitkat1967 · 20/08/2013 09:05

Malt - number 4 on Thursday.

Am off to onc later and will get results of MRI so kind of excited to find out what's been going on. Will also get bloods done but know WBC is OK as done in the hospital at the weekend. Still issues with the glucose levels though so will see what he says about that. Also hoping he'll write up some more anti-sickness meds.

Can't wait for the Mummy Pig pic Smile

kitkat1967 · 20/08/2013 09:08

Gig - the camping trip is only a few episode's behind so a few more sleepless nights and you'll have caught me up!!!

Lilymaid · 20/08/2013 09:13

Malt when I was fitted with a wig (and had hair shaved) my hairdresser said "your hair's going on holiday". I thought that was a bit crass at the time, but several weeks on I now understand what he means - just that it isn't there at the moment, but will be back in a few months time. My wig now fits perfectly - not too tight but is well fixed to my head - so I'm not worried about it falling off and am almost used to my new look.
I'm off on my course for a few wifi and telephone signal free days. DH went off early this morning to collect DS2 from LHR ... but we've just realised that we've made a mistake (expensive and time consuming mistake) as he is coming back on Thursday instead. I can blame my chemo brain, but we really should have rechecked the e-ticket he sent us when he went away which is perfectly clear!
