Hello all! New thread as we have almost filled the last one. Help yourself to chocolate chip muffins from the trolley! :)

OP posts:
kitkat1967 · 18/08/2013 18:16

Thanks mas - annoying cough still here but feel much better - did not realise how under the weather i was.

Gigondas · 18/08/2013 18:19

Oh kitkat glad you are home but rotten luck to get dragged in. Seems like they were very thorough which is normal.

am onto series 3 too- she is a major pain isn't she? I love bailey and izzie . May have to swap to private practice if I run near end of series 3 and get dh to download more. It's ideal viewing at minute. And somehow medicine bit of it is so Ott it doesn't really bother me.

Kurri - come on FB. Please.

Mas have a lovely peaceful evening- sent you a tweet as Patrick gale was on radio 4 at 4.

Gigondas · 18/08/2013 18:20

And malt luxuriate tonight. I think baileys is recommended by dr topsy on chemo.

BetsyBoop · 18/08/2013 18:36

glad you've had a good day malt - the cake lookied yummy :)

gigs glad you managed a trip out of chokey :)

wow kitkat - glad it's all sorted any you are home

kurri - hope you feel better soon - someone I used to work with suffered from shingles pain intermittently, I could see from the affect it had on him that it tis not fun :(

MAS enjoy your meditation (is it just me or does it only seem like five minutes since I was saying that last week, this week has certainly flown.)

I hope everyone else is having a great weekend.

I'm glad it's not just me that get fed up with all the brave/strong/battle/fighting/positive sh1t - I swear if anyone else tells me how brave/strong/positive I am I shall be unable to resist punching them in the face!! Shock Luckily no one has come anywhere near me with pink sparkly sh1t - I have a well known aversion to pink at the best of times Grin

Had a busy weekend decorating DS's new bedroom, taking up old carpet etc (we are swapping the smallest bedroom (his current one) and the loft room (which was my craft room) over. It's actually quite nice to do something "normal" and I never thought I'd say that about painting! Grin

Lilymaid · 18/08/2013 18:47

I've been told firmly by DSs that Facebook is not for the likes of me! I do exist there but with minimal details but it means I can look at things like small business details which I don't think you can do otherwise (?)
Strangely I now seem to be logging on as DS2 which is weird as he's been 3k miles away for the last 2 months. This has meant that I've seen recent pictures of both of them having a good time.
Still not told either - DS2 is back on Tuesday so will be told then (probably by DH as I shall be leaving for my course whilst he's coming back from LHR. Hoped to tell DS1 tonight but he's off to the back of beyond (literally) so it will have to wait until he's out of the jungle.

malteserzz · 18/08/2013 20:01

Cake was lovely might have another piece later Smile
I love Facebook and use it to keep in touch with friends from school, uni etc basically I'm just nosey! Have had lots of supportive messages on there since dx telling me about friends who have been through similar which has been nice. Was feeling a bit down in the middle of the night and had a nice online conversation with a friend who also couldn't sleep which helped

Gigs hope if you do need another op that it's soon do you don't have to stay in for too long

Watching the mill now then southcliffe will have square eyes !

Gigondas · 18/08/2013 20:58

I hope not too malt but will try and find out more tomorrow. It's a bit HmmConfused not knowing what is going on for sure and when.

Shootingatpigeons · 18/08/2013 21:27

KK Have posted pics of my jungle garden which is really coming into it's own, as you will guess from the meringue dress I am a dahlia sort of gal.... I love Facebook, now most of my friends and family are overseas it is a brilliant way to keep in touch / still get a chance to take the piss...

kitkat sorry you had a panic, sounds like they have sorted you out quickly and efficiently

Bit of drama here, shame Topsy is away as she would have loved it. I stabbed DH Shock . Actually he had vainly mansearched one of his barbecue implements, I found it at first look but though I had some of my homegrown aubergines at furnace heat in the wok I was supposed to take it out to him. When I refused he suggested I throw it (he likes to demonstrate his manly catching skills over my lack of small motor control) and he managed to catch the handle in the bit of skin between thumb and forefinger, ouch. He then turned into manvictim so when he moaned that it was my fault walk in centre didn't have doctor on duty I left him at main hospital. I did cope with Cancer without all that drama you know ;-)

Shootingatpigeons · 18/08/2013 21:29

gigs that link works for me but basically manically dancing man infects all hospital staff with manic dancing all to boomy boom music

Shootingatpigeons · 18/08/2013 23:00

BTW before anyone thinks I am a patricidal maniac with a barbecue knife or even fork he managed to stab himself with a barbecue marinade brush.......back now, all OK

foofooyeah · 19/08/2013 00:21

Thanks for the info about diet.

pigeon: loving the image of throwing prosthesis and wigs around after wine consumption - sounds like my sort of therapy.

OK so my question for today is ..... I have tried to glean this by looking at recent posts about hair loss but its too late for my brain to and completely unrelated to wine consumption

How soon after starting chemo did your ahir start to fall out if it did ?
Eason for asking is that having highlights cut etc next Sat - will find out if starting chemo the following Tuesday - so will I get my moneys worth ??

BettyBoob: as our cancer is similar do you mind sharing what treatment you have had so far?

foofooyeah · 19/08/2013 00:22

sorry BettyBoop not Bettyboop - got them on the brain atm

Gigondas · 19/08/2013 05:06

Morning all - early wake up as ouchy bruises and head ache (from sleeping awkwardly). Had blocked out how yuck it was when bruises set in so am making do with tea, drugs and biscuits to help.

Foofoo- mine fell out about 2 and a bit weeks after chemo just before nt second round but I did no cold cap etc.

I saw/see a dietician who advised me . Interestingly she has quite a lot to say on dairy etc (think its not to avoid). When am home will try post more but her book book is excellent . Has a lot of advice on diets for chemo, cancer etc. she is also someone who likes food so I find it is easy to follow.

Ow ow ow - I have new respect for drug addicts as some of worst bruises is where they put lines in on their arms.

What is everyone else up today? Taking it very easy and trying to find out when next op is and what involves. Mr gig , mum and my sis/bil (who are taking me out to dinner) and possibly the little gigs.

malteserzz · 19/08/2013 05:07

Foo foo it usually falls out 2-3 weeks after you start chemo. You can try the cold cap though which helps to keep at least some of it. Mind you I've been using it and 4 days after my 2nd chemo my hair is really thin and I'm not sure if it will last Hmm

Awake at 5 arggh ! Think the baileys did help me to get to sleep initially though !

malteserzz · 19/08/2013 05:11

Morning gigs were awake at the same time ! Sorry your ouchy with the bruises hope the tea helps
No plans for me today yet waiting to see how I feel but dd needs new bras if I feel up to that ! If not will just be chilling
Nutrition book sounds interesting

Gigondas · 19/08/2013 05:18

It's Good one if you like that kind of thing.

I was going to suggest net shop for dd bras but I guess she needs measuring. I need to check what big gig has outgrown from her uniform and sort that. I got most of it second hand so was bargain but I think a lot of it is getting too small. Need to stop feeding her (and mini gig who I think may end up taller than big gig )Wink.

kitkat1967 · 19/08/2013 06:29

Morning. Am awake early but did go to bed at 7pm so hardly surprising. Still coughing but did have decent sleep so apart from the cough and the fact I just tweaked my back I'm hoping for a better day.
Quite excited as I have to collect a registered letter from the post office which I think is my cheque!!!!
On the way home from hospital yesterday we stopped and got school shoes and trainers and it was relatively painless so chuffed with that. DD also got new school bag which can be a drama so pleased that is done.

kitkat1967 · 19/08/2013 06:34

Oh, and made the switch to organic milk and dairy yesterday (probably long over due) and will stop at health food shop today to look at deodorants.

foofooyeah · 19/08/2013 07:07

Morning all - is it as nice big cheque kitkat ? I just checked my bank account and whinced - where the heck does the money go ??

Will go for the hair apt (my Mum paying for me as a treat - gah still having to help her daughter out financially and she is 79!) as have a big party at the end of the month - and should get a few weeks out of it with a bit of luck.

Sorry about the bruises Gig - have you tried arnica tablets ?

jchocchip · 19/08/2013 07:41

Morning gig and malt and kitkat and foofoo! You were up early. Always tricky sleeping in hospitals gig so glad you got tea and drugs cocktail.

My mum takes amytriptiline sometimes she is given it every night but doesn't often take it as she says it makes her hallucinate...
Brew on the go. Just read through yesterdays posts, sorry I couldn't keep up, had a busy day with ds birthday and whatnot.

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/08/2013 08:03

good morning ! Hope less ouchy soon gig and have nice dinner out later...
Am so glad no more school uniform for us,though have to keep buying new trousers/jeans for T as he has endlessly growing legs
Swimming today ! Was thinking that I could incorporate meditation into swimming lengths.

kitkat1967 · 19/08/2013 08:16

Hi foo - yes critical illness payout which the ladies here encouraged me to apply for (so massive cheque - hence the recorded delivery)
Party on!!!!!

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/08/2013 08:20

that's fab kitkat !

malteserzz · 19/08/2013 08:21

Are you going to spend it Kitkat or save it for a nice holiday ? Think that's what I'd do !
Mas enjoy the swimming ! I always worry what I look like in a cossie too but when I go there are people of all shapes and sizes and no one bats an eyelid
Gigs hope you're resting
Morning Jchoc

Gigondas · 19/08/2013 08:53

Given up trying up rest now as everytime I dropped off someone came in. More peaceful with the little gigs Wink.

I am afraid I was sensible with my cheque as is being invested for kids. but must be lovely to have it.
