I have bought more yogurt...
don't work too hard smee - am just having a very late lunch of croissant and melon before doing some work- mustn't let things slip...

graciesmall09 · 21/09/2012 16:20

yeah for gigs and mas. Will hopefully post more later. Just waiting for dr to confirm i am getting home. Ct scan showed lungs clear but they flagged the bone thing again but i explained onc wasnt concerned however they also saw 2 small liver spots :-( . Phone almost out of charge so i will post more later.

Gigondas · 21/09/2012 16:24

Glad lungs clear. Liver spots can be other stuff as they saw things on mine but turned out to be something benign.

OP posts:
Sometimesiwonder · 21/09/2012 16:30

Keeping fingers crossed for you to break out, Gracie - excellent lung news too.x

smee · 21/09/2012 16:39

curlyclueless · 21/09/2012 18:20

Thank you for the welcome and the advice on being a good friend. The wig experience was emotional but we managed to have fun - went out for a coffee half way through and a glass of fizz once the purchase was made. Should any London based folk ever need I can't recommend Gary at Selfridges strongly enough (not sure I'm allowed to say that!) but really amazing, honest, empathetic, warm, professional man. I almost wished I needed one too...

curlyclueless · 21/09/2012 18:30

Amber - you recommended ginger supplements - did you mean ginger root supplements or crystallised ginger? Would like to make her up a little pack of stuff so any ideas gratefully received.

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/09/2012 18:30

well done curly - sounds a very successful trip and am sure your friend appreciated your being there. Hope her chemo goes well Smile

amberlight · 21/09/2012 19:12

Curly, I used Ginger Root pills from a herbal shop, 550mg a day or thereabouts. www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/150176.php is the science.
Hurrah re wig trip!

KK grr re the pain etc Hmm

I'm attempting to get a stone in weight off me in the next seven weeks. This is bound to be doomed to failure very successful.

Gigondas · 21/09/2012 19:21

Ginger chews from holland and Barrett are nice. Also ginger cordial . She may want to experiment with a few ginger beers as some aren't sweet or gingery enough.

Curly you sound lovely- normal life, laughs and gossip with my mates what kept me going through chemo.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 21/09/2012 20:27

yes you do sound a lovely friend curly - it makes such a difference to have someone just being there for you whether you are feeling low or to share a laugh with on good days.

amber - I will join you in trying to lose weight. I have come to a standstill again since I got home from holiday, I need to get my big butt in gear if I want my new boob op!

invicta · 21/09/2012 20:34

My radiotherapy stars next week and I've got a couple of questions re personal hygiene. I was told I couldn't up use bubble bath and have dutifully got some aqueous cream.

Am I allowed to use ordinary facial cleanser? Shampoo? Etc. can I shower?

Sorry to ask silly questions.

I hope everone has a good weekend and manages to have a rest from all their cancer concerns and worries

Gigondas · 21/09/2012 20:36

Yes to facial cleanser , shampoo and showering although you may want to pat dry the affected area and I avoided soaping it- just wash with water then aqueous on afterwards.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 21/09/2012 20:40

I think I used simple soap to wash with, usual shampoo, cleansers etc but no deo...though others have used natural deodorants i think (non aluminium )
Slathered my chest in aqueous religiously.

amberlight · 21/09/2012 20:52

Hi Invicta, agree with the others. I used Bionsen antiperspirant and it was brilliant. On sale in most places now. I used simple soap with no perfumes etc on that boob and underarm, but my fave soap elsewhere (can be done if careful). And I used really good quality Aloe Vera gel on the boob and underarm. My Onc (top one in the country) agreed with me that many people found Aloe Vera to be better than the aqueous cream. I had no problems with my skin at all apart from a bit of suntan peeling afterwards. But do take notice of your team.

NedSchneebly · 21/09/2012 21:01

Blimey, I've missed loads! Sorry to have been awol for a bit.

Had a productive day in Southampton with Mum on Wednesday, getting her a wedding outfit. Did I say my brother got engaged over the summer? Anyway, they are having their wedding at Kew Gardens in December, so its all systems go! DS is being a page boy with SIL-to-be's two nephews, although no fancy suits - they are getting matching Converse boots, and want them in navy trousers and a checked shirt. No morning suits, no bridesmaids, it seems like it'll be very laid back and relaxed. I am delaying buying an outfit until a bit nearer the time, in case, by some miracle, I have dropped a dress size by then!

Picked up new glasses today - quite pleased with them!

Did I also say that I have abandoned the bandannas altogether? I am working towards a very classy Judi Dench- style crop, although still some way off . . .

Sorry, self indulgent post. . . On to more interesting matters!

MAS YAY to clear abdo, and also yoghurt permission. Good luck with the first chemo - when are you starting, tonight or tomorrow? Was in Waitrose today, and thought of you!

Amber and kurri I am with you on the weight loss endeavours! Went to the gym again today - did 50 minutes in total, which nearly finished me off entirely. Upped the speed and the incline on the treadmill a bit, and braved the horrible torturous stepper machine thingy. . .

invicta I think deodorant in the biggest no-no, I was recommended Simple soap, and definitely don't rub the area dry as it can irritate the skin - go for patting dry. Good luck lovey x x

curly my advice would also be regular contact with your friend, even if its just a quick text or fb message. It means a lot to know that people are carrying you in their thoughts.

Epic post - will leave off now, but waving to everyone, hope you all have nice plans for the weekend? Love to all x x x x

jchocchip · 21/09/2012 21:30

Sometimesiwonder · 22/09/2012 10:59

Morning all, just checking in to see that all you lovely ladies are OK this morning. Gracie - especially glad that you got home safe. I may also be putting off work, again

Topsy - don't overdo the decorating

We are going to the theatre this evening to see a play called 20th Century Boy -it's about Marc Bolan so I am gleefully anticipating a fab time bopping in my seat and embarrassing dd Grin If any of you are too young to remember Marc Bolan please be kind and don't tell me that because I am a gimmer.

Sometimesiwonder · 22/09/2012 12:10

I've finished the article I had to write today. Hoorah! I'm off to skip around in the rather chilly sunshine!

Have a lovely day, all of you.

MAS - I'm looking at you - take it easy today if you have started the tablets. Hope they are tolerable x

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/09/2012 13:49

I remember when Marc Bolan died, day before my birthday in fact...loved TRex
(am old gimmer obviously as you know)
Tablets taken after much confusion about how many - whether FOUR twice a day means eight altogether,- emailed bcn at home in a panic and she sensibly suggested ringing the chemo ward. So it's 4 big ones and 2 smaller ones each dose.
Have been marched into town by dh for my exercise and back via waitrose.
Well done for finishing article 8sometimes -enjoy the sun ! and topsy* -have fun decorating Grin
