we did our wedding a bit unconventionally- turned up at it together, partly because I felt that dh should have the benefit of lovely car too...

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/08/2012 09:07

How disappointing about godparents gig - can you swap them ?

overthemill · 23/08/2012 09:19

gig i feel your pain! yes i had cold shivery thing last time and they fussed then continued

ilgc - where on IOW? I have very close friend there and its where my mum was born!

I had the day from hell yesterday! left home 7am and got home 6.45, chemo in schoolholidays is crap! one one doctor around in whole cancer unit. i had bloods at 8.15 and chemo started at 1.30
just sat around on ward cos nothing else to do
so angry!

overthemill · 23/08/2012 09:25

and can anyone interpret my blood results?

Gigondas · 23/08/2012 09:32

Some of them- red bloods , white one , inflammatory markers I can have a go at (having had 6 tests in last 48 hrs it rivals Howard's way as my new specialism Grin).

They are my god parents so 30 odd years too late Grin. It's a bit of a relationships saga (except it isn't really as I am happy with not really having much to do with them).

It's my aunt and uncle who we saw a lot of growing up . But they are quite dysfunctional and my aunt and mother in particular have a very rivalrous relationship.

Could go Into detail but when my parents split up (partly because of my dads drinking which at time was receiving hospital treatment for) , fact I didn't take sides and continued to see my dad (and indeed stick up for him at times) went down badly with my mum, sister and aunt.

First two had their good reasons and we are over it but my aunt was quite viscious. Last proper conversation I had with her ended with "I am glad you are crying - wanted that to happen" . Was almost like she wanted to provoke reaction whilst pretending to be caring.

Dh not keen on them as thinks they are mad and nasty so has no time for them.

Trouble is it will mildly put out my mum and sis If not there.

But at least it is a good place to contemplate these social dilemmas in hospital!!

Can you see why I ran away to Vegas to get married? Wink

OP posts:
overthemill · 23/08/2012 09:43

so gigs your specialist subject questions are:
Hb 12. 7
WBC 2.7
Plat 276
Neutrophils 1.0

anything to worry about or conversely be pleased about? Am guessing they won't improve this time?

Gigondas · 23/08/2012 09:57

Dunno about platelets but RB is good 12-14 normal , 9 is when they start to think about transfusion etc as below that you are in anaemia land.

Neutophils - 1 is quite low (I think it's 0.5 that have to be super careful) as means immune response down - think between 2-5 ok for chemo when you are ok.

OP posts:
Gigondas · 23/08/2012 10:00

White blood count ok- that's heading to normal (think that is about 7/8). If you take those with neutrophils that is usually how you tell you are coming In/out of
Your low period as two usually go together (those results are kind of thing I get when just out of my low period ).
Did they talk to you at all about what likely recovery spell was on your cycles as I know you are on 2 week plan (all my knowledge is based on a low at about days 7-11 unless of course the hospital as been messing with me Grin).

OP posts:
overthemill · 23/08/2012 10:19

gigs no they didn't. I got doc who was on his first day and had to be prompted by oncology nurse throughout! i did think of asking that afterwards but wondered if i could google it?
am writing huge angry letter at moment to chief exec of hospital - very therapeutic

Gigondas · 23/08/2012 10:23

Good for you as sounds less than ideal. I had a vent on patient feedback.

You do need info direct as I found google patchy on blood tests for example and will be no help at all on your cycle.

How you feeling today?

OP posts:
overthemill · 23/08/2012 10:24

from macmillan site:

Neutropenia begins seven days after treatment. Your resistance to infection is usually at its lowest 10?14 days after chemotherapy. The number of your white blood cells will then increase steadily and usually return to normal before your next cycle of chemotherapy is due.

so my low period is 10 - 14 days but as i have treatment day 15 do i have time to recover? they were worried about an episode of breathlessness my dh told them about but decided to go ahead.

i'm guessing this is why teaching is a no no

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/08/2012 11:09

gig no wonder you did marry in Vehgas ,and nope, wouldn't want them there... my Godmother was kind of picked by my grandmother -mum wouldn't have chosen her- she was a school friend of mum's,but mum always preferred the sister of friend- (she was also mum's bridesmaid -again grandma urged this- my dad's mum..) She is deeply Catholic ,ultra religious but so full of herself and her achievements and shows zero interest in anyone else's (she once told me that she's like to do sketching if she had the time in her hugely busy career) I think mum dislikes her intensly, and her ultra up himself husband . Granny was very formidable, I loved her dearly, but scary and mum was a very young and meek 23.

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/08/2012 11:10

Vehgas?

cazza40 · 23/08/2012 11:19

Hello can i join you ? I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the start of the school hols which ended up with me having a mastectomy last week - i am meeting the consultant today to hopefully get all the biopsy results from what they took out and to discuss a treatment plan - feeling scared but not as bad as a few weeks ago. I know I will have tamoxifen not sure yet if i need rad and/or chemo

overthemill · 23/08/2012 11:44

cazza so sorry to hear abut the diagnosis but at least you now know what you are dealing with (I found waiting the hardest bit almost). I'm quite new too and don't have BC but everyone is so friendly! You can always find a helpful and sympathetic ear here!

Gigondas · 23/08/2012 14:14

cazza this is the worst bit as feels like you have a focus when in treatment.

The good and bad news is that likely to be in a couple more days while they sort my bugs with antibiotics Angry

OP posts:
overthemill · 23/08/2012 15:56

gis what a bummer. Hope you are entertained?

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/08/2012 16:36

welcome cazza but sorry you are here, iyswim. Gig is right- once you know what's what with pathology things'll seem much better. Stick with us !
Grr Gig -that's pesky.

Gigondas · 23/08/2012 16:40

Yep got entertainment - just pissed off about being stuck in for however long. Can hope for topsystyle results as immune response is good.

Am not in the picc line fan club Grin

OP posts:
graciesmall09 · 23/08/2012 17:32

Welcome cazza. I know its an awful place to be and all the waiting is just awful. Hopefully you have your results now and know what your treatment plan is. Stick with us and we will cheer you up.

overthemill teaching would probably be the last thing you need as your body really isn't being given much time to recover. I think if you neutrophils are not at least 1 they can give neurlasta to help them recover.

gigs you just wanted to join my picc line problem club didn't you? Most people just sail along - ours are nightmares. I can't wait to get it out.

Bye kurri have a super holiday.

Feeling quite sick although haven't been sick yet so I will be making sure they don't forget my Emend next time. They also forgot to half my dose of Dex so I have jiggy legs syndrome and can't keep them still however I feel very, very tired.

Not sure whether I had mentioned that an ex-neighbour of mine had heard about me and came over a few weeks ago with some flowers for me and a home baked steak pie. Which was gorgeous. Well she arrived yesterday again having worked out my chemo dates and had spagetti bol, plus garlic bread and pasta. What a surprise. Another neighbour called on Sunday with Molton Brown Seamoss Bath Salts and I really don't know either of these people quite well - usually just a 'morning' or wave.

Gigondas · 23/08/2012 17:41

Aw that is so lovely of your neighbours. But sorry you are feeling so shitty- I love emend!

And it's sods law we get the picc line issues (think you have had it worse than me).

The microbiologist seem to be stirring it up as I don't feel that bad and dr/ nurses aren't worried but the lab types are pushing for me to be kept in with Iv Anti bio as opposed to going home with tablets and warning to rest up.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 23/08/2012 17:43

what lovely,kind neighbours gracie

topsyturner · 23/08/2012 20:46

Evening All

Welcome to Cazza .
Anything goes here . You can talk to us about everything !

Gracie people surprise you don't they ?
In the loveliest way sometimes too .
Hope you are feeling a bit better soon .
And if you feel you need the emend , bloody well phone them and tell them to get it to you stat !

Evening Gigs , are you torturing the medical staff again ?
When I was in for my marathon hospital stint it turns out now that I actually had pneumonia .
I never even had a cough !!!
I think the microbiology nerds (I picture them looking like the minions from Dispicable Me Grin ) pic these bugs up at such an early stage , it doesn't give us chance to get suck with them .

So what I'm really saying is , stop your yapping , get back into bed , and take your meds like a good girl !!! Grin Grin Grin

Have I missed kk ?
Has she disappeared up to the wilds of Scotland already ?

Got apt tomorrow with tissue viability nurse .
Then next week I have an ECG then my 3 monthly CT .
Hopefully they won't make me wait too long for the CT results !

I missed Ambers birthday too .
Happy belated birthday Amber !

And happy anniversary to Mas , see you are in your fave restaraunt this evening .

Right , enough waffling from me .
Later Gaters !
