Here we go !

Oh my, have just googled Colorado news. Sad

With the baby, I'm not sure how they tell about brain damage. Maybe a scan would tell them something, but for now I think they're concentrating on getting her stable. She has to have a tube into her lungs, which is incredibly painful so she's on high dose morphine. She's also in some sort of full body suit to keep her temperature constant and avoid any further damage. Poor little thing. Sad

topsyturner · 20/07/2012 10:57

Bloody Nora re Colorado Sad
What makes people do things like this ?

Re the baby , they will do brain scans to check for bleeds . If and where the bleeds are will indicate the type of damage to be expected .

Sometimesiwonder · 20/07/2012 11:02

Ah, Topsy, that makes sense.

Poor, poor little thing. What a terrible introduction to the world.

As regards Colorado - what on earth possesses someone to make them do something like that. Drugs or hate, I suppose. Impossible to fathom.

smee · 20/07/2012 11:13

Topsy, sensible thoughts. I think for now they just have her in intensive neo natal care, so imagine scans will follow once she's stronger and once the parents are stronger too. Poor things are in shock. Wish I could do more. Am going to go to poncey but treat-filled organic foodstore later and buy lots of goodies for them. can't think what else to do. Hope to go and visit in next day or so, but for now family are with them. Sad

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/07/2012 11:19

what's happened in Colorado ? (will go and look)
Will keep thinking of your friend's baby smee and hope all will be ok.

OP posts:
Sometimesiwonder · 20/07/2012 11:20

I'm sure that will be welcome, Smee - the goodies and the thought behind them.

Sometimesiwonder · 20/07/2012 11:20

MAS - another mass shooting Sad

topsyturner · 20/07/2012 11:24

Good idea Smee . We all know how bad (and expensive) hospital food can be .
So food treats would be very welcome I'm sure . They need to keep their strength up for the baby .

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/07/2012 11:27

Ye Gods !
How much are bread makers ???
To those of you who have one , are they a worth while investment ?
We do go through an awful lot of bread in this house .
And can you make rolls in them ?

Gigondas · 20/07/2012 13:55

Yes they are worthwhile- and yes can
Make rolls and a load of other stuff. Have used ours every day for 3 years.

NedSchneebly · 20/07/2012 16:01

Afternoon all. Had lovely lunch with kurri today - she's fabulous! Had a great chat and lots of laughs. Nice lunch too, in pub near kurri's mum - deli platter for me, risotto fr kurri and then Eton Mess healthy, fat free dessert for us both. Fantastic Smile

topsy our bread maker is fab, use it every day. Recommend getting one. Cam do all sorts of breads, pizza bases, fruit breed, cheese bread etc. all v yummy

smee got everything crossed for your friends baby. Am sure delicious foods bits will go down brilliantly. Hope there's more positive news to report soon x

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/07/2012 17:01

And how lovely that you've met kk !! yay !

OP posts:
smee · 20/07/2012 17:48

Ah Ned, that's sweet. What a clever boy. My DS didn't win his class prize, but told me he was close. When I asked how he knew, he said the boy who won's name starts with the same letter as his..! Grin

Great to hear you and Kurri met, Ned. Hope she's having a relaxing break and her DH's managed to wind down a bit.

I have just bought lots of wondrous snacks for friend. Spent several arms and a leg, but still nice to be doing something. Off out with BF to the local tonight, will leave DH and DS to watch Tour de France.

topsyturner · 20/07/2012 17:49

Well done Ned junior
And yippee for another Tamoxifen Meet Up

Looks like I NEED to buy a bread maker then ?
What do we recommend ?

Soup was lush btw , even the DC ate it .

Oh and nurses forgot me again today .
So no picc line cleaning .
They are putting me on tomorrows list instead , but aren't sure whether the nurse who is on tomorrow has had the training for the new super pic ... sigh ...

topsyturner · 20/07/2012 17:50

Read that as " off out with the boyfriend" Smee
My your DH is remarkably laid back Grin

topsyturner · 20/07/2012 17:52
smee · 20/07/2012 17:54

The BF days are sadly long gone Topsy, and let's face it best mates are far more fun. Smile

Enjoy the chicken fest. Hope the mouth's a bit less ouch now. x

topsyturner · 20/07/2012 18:05

I must agree Smee , the only way I'd have a boyfriend now would be if he was gay !

Gigondas · 20/07/2012 18:32

The only bf I Want is one who would fetch me chips.

Think food idea is a brilliant one smee
Yay for Ned ds - That is lovely.

NedSchneebly · 20/07/2012 19:00

Panasonic bread makers are meant to be some of the best, topsy but that was some time ago, when we got ours.

Kurri reported that her DH seemed a bit more relaxed, and wasn't coughing as much, which is definitely positive. They're in Dorset for a good few days, so hopefully they'll get a decent break.

topsy Shock that they forgot you again! Hope tomorrow's nurse is suitably qualified to be able to sort your PICC. Are you using difflam for mouth ulcers? It worked pretty well for me.

Grin at smee's boyfriend! I agree, I couldn't keep up with a boyfriend now. Far too much like hard work. Wink

topsyturner · 20/07/2012 19:27

Mouth much better today thanks .
Got chlorohexidine mouthwash which I used non stop for a couple of days and that seems to have shifted the worst of it .

Good to hear KKs DH seems more relaxed .
I am very guilty of forgetting that my DH is going through all this aswell as me .
Oh for a quiet life with no worries eh ?

Gigondas · 20/07/2012 20:08

That's good about mouth ulcers- I have been using aloe Vera mouthwash as a precaution.

Yep hard for dh here too but seems to be coping better- part of reason why think its better he has a holiday without me than stay here as needs a break z

Ooh talking of dh, he has just put Lewis on...

topsyturner · 20/07/2012 22:23

I have a not so secret crush on Laurence Fox (Hathaway in Lewis)
Think he's a little bit yum ...

MaryAnnSingleton · 20/07/2012 22:54

Am off to that London tomorrow- I daresay trailing around after ds looking at buildings ! going on the train which is always an adventure.
love to all xxxxx
