When we had the Brexit vote they also voted for Brexit- large academy 9-18- Southern England

If anything I would say the school promoted Labour

So that is our poll prediction, although certainly not what I hope for.

All Reform voters are reason enough to be referred to PREVENT. If they can be taken in by Russia’s lies and made to vote against the interests of democracy against all the overwhelming evidence then they can be convinced to do anything.

People need to take this seriously instead of hiding behind “democracy” and people having the right to “think for themselves”. This will get so much worse.

You are seriously, seriously deranged. I like to think you are just having us on because no one can be this removed from reality. Are you a teacher??

DoNotScrapeMyDataBishes · 04/07/2024 08:49

In terms of TikTok the winner I've seen on there has been the Lib Dems with Ed Davey getting a huge amount of likes just for "vibing" out the election campaign like an "Election Dad"... or Count Binface but he's not really accessible to most of the UK unless you're in Richmond (and it's really worrying when the "novelty" candidate actually has some of the most sane policies these days!)

DD1's school are doing the mock elections and she's decided she's going to spoil her ballot as she thinks the whole mock election thing is pointless and she's trying to rebel and be edgy basically - she's actually a very politically astute kid (has been dragged leaflet dropping by grandparents for years) but this is a chance to be slightly anonymous and get up to a bit of nonsense in school so they're jumping on it in the way that Y7 think they're the first generation to ever be a bit "naughty" tend to do.

A lot of white people secretly vote for Reform even when they say they vote otherwise.

No I’m not a teacher, I work in theatre production. Why does that matter?

What a relief!

You clearly do not know what prevent is for. Prevent is there as an emergency service for anyone wishing to report an immediate risk of terrorist activity or someone you believe to be indoctrinated by IS and able to blow themselves up in a shopping centre.

It is not there to change people's political minds. It is not a Nazi type of organisation intent on brainwashing people from thinking independent thoughts. It is a serious organised response team to protect the public from terrorism.

Jesus wept.

Genuine question - why? I promise not to argue with you or try to tell you you’re wrong, I’m just intrigued.

A generation or two ago young people voted left wing as a rebellion against the right wing establishment and right wing parents.

Now young people are voting right wing as a rebellion against the left wing establishment and left wing parents.

''Twas ever the case...

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 04/07/2024 09:14

Same in Germany, apparently.

The young have been on the receiving end of several of the more bizarre manifestations of liberalism/ globalisation. Not that keen,,it seems.

I'm sure that was the opinion in Europe.

At least before the European and French parliamentary elections.

Which countries are the most racist? New survey says UK is one of the least racist

The findings of the new study clash with previous findings about UK’s racial prejudices

Nah, you haven't met South Asians. Especially those from erm 'higher' castes.
Also as PP pointed out there are other countries which are institutionally racists and it's acceptable to be openly racist.

Also believe it or not, racism and equal treatment isn't on the top of most countries' agenda. Yet it's taken as a given ' hot topic in the UK.

The French elections are only halfway through, they’re still at the protest vote stage.

Yes not just here

Starmer lowering the age of voting to shore up power may actually be more Reform than he thought

ItGotLost · 03/07/2024 23:29

This.

I believe that a high number of Labour voters want the NHS to improve as we all do. But without personally having to pay towards it.

As coined by Thatcher but ever true “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”

I think a lot of people WOULD be prepared to pay more if they knew exactly where their money was going and that there wouldn’t be huge amounts of waste.

Marvelo · 04/07/2024 09:22

Young people were also the most enthusiastic supporters of the Nazis. The idea that young = liberal is very much a product of a particular time.

TraumaSalt · 04/07/2024 09:23

When we held an election in the 90s my school overwhelmingly voted for the Natural Law party: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_Law_Party#:~:text=The%20Natural%20Law%20Party%20(NLP,to%20all%20levels%20of%20government.

cupcaske123 · 03/07/2024 22:50

Did they mention why?

A lack of alternatives. Reform are a farce and Farage has no answers to issues but he is engaging.

Tories are done. Little enthusiasm for Starmer or Labour who lack a vision (Corbyn was popular with young people). Lib Dems don't appeal. Greens don't get the wall to wall coverage of Reform with a charismatic populist.

It's the failure of the main parties to enthuse. But Labour will win big so Starmer has done hos job ultimately.

That's sad. So nothing in their manifesto that appeals, just the best of a bad bunch.

"All Reform voters are reason enough to be referred to PREVENT"

"Reform supporters are old people"

"A lot of white people secretly vote for Reform even when they say they vote otherwise."

"I can believe it. White people are the most racist on the planet by far"

After reading this comments I'm not surprised at the growing support for the right wing and to be honest I'm surprised that it's not actually higher.

In a You Gov poll the biggest reason by a mile for voting Labour given was "they're not the Tories". That helps to explain the appeal of Reform.

Problem is Labour's manifesto is fairly bland as the economy is fucked and they know they couldn't fund the stuff they might want to do.

Reform know they won't win so can afford to put a load of appealing policies in place that make no practical or economic sense (tax cuts across the board, net zero immigration).
