My students voted overwhelmingly for Reform

Regulus · 03/07/2024 22:19

When we had the Brexit vote they also voted for Brexit- large academy 9-18- Southern England

If anything I would say the school promoted Labour

So that is our poll prediction, although certainly not what I hope for.

I've heard of at least two other schools where Reform won the mock election.

The reason isn't Andrew Tate, the reason is that TikTok has been taken over by funny videos of Nigel Farage which are particularly appealing to teen boys.

The younger people in my work place 20-35 all seem to be voting reform. I was stunned.

That is interesting. Young people have a lot to be resentful about imo. They have had a tough time under the Conservatives. Mainstream politics hasn’t really engaged with them. It’s been about older people

tinydynamine · 03/07/2024 22:46

I would not vote Reform, but I would vote for a party bold enough to reform the NHS.

And I’d second that!

noblegiraffe · 03/07/2024 22:54

It's not about the politics, it's about the memes.

wonderstuff · 03/07/2024 22:54

TikTok is the thing. I wonder how much Russian/Chinese money is going into their media campaign.

SemperIdem · 03/07/2024 22:55

I don’t think schools should be promoting any specific party, though I do think it is fine for teachers to share who they will be voting for personally.

FantasticFox27 · 03/07/2024 22:57

My kids school had a mock vote today. Apparently it is well known that the teachers (and in particular the head) dislike reform......so they all voted reform to piss them off 🙄 ds got involved in this too but when I asked him if he'd actually vote for them he scoffed and said of course not! Dd said she heard about it too late and had already voted Labour, but would have voted reform if she had known. Don't take it to heart OP

MysticCatLady · 03/07/2024 22:58

Reform have a lot of Tiktok videos that the young ones are sucked in by. Andrew Tate has also endorsed them.

TeenLifeMum · 03/07/2024 22:59

cupcaske123 · 03/07/2024 22:50

Did they mention why?

The few things they mentioned were zero waiting lists (we work in the nhs and know this is an impossible promise! 🙄)
Education policies also came up - ban trans ideologies being taught, offer single sex toilets and Scrap interest payments on student loans and extend the repayment period to 45 years.

I stopped listening after that.

Bunny44 · 03/07/2024 23:00

Hi Russia. Thank you for swamping Mumsnet with threads about Reform to make it seem more than just a fringe minority party, which most people are not going to vote for.

I work in cybersecurity and just warning you all, this is a thing. Look out for it on here.

Redshoeblueshoe · 03/07/2024 22:26

Maybe it was because the school promoted labour that they did it as a FU to the staff, showing they are capable of making up their own minds and pissing you off at the same time.

Knowing teenagers I agree with this one.

Sounds like they've given it some thought. Very interesting.

Search my name, I've posted for a long time with this name - especially during covid because it was hard in schools but I've been here much longer.

Feel free to ask MN but take your troll hunting and 'cyber security ' elsewhere, it is possible to talk about things that are happening in the UK without being a bot.

My arse do you have anything to do with IT.

Even a cursory review of OPs posting history shows that she has been a member here for a significant number of years and commented on a wide range of topics.

Like the OP I've been on here for years. We are commenting on what kids are saying in schools. Children don't have the vote.

Knowing teenagers I agree with this one.

Not sure I agree with that, the overwhelming response seemed to be they wanted something different.
Not sure they knew what they wanted but not the status quo, and I can't blame them for that, it does seem bleak for young people.

And Bunny a look through YOUR posting history finds this

Ex getting married, our baby is 7 months
Bunny44 · 21/04/2024 11:03
I don't have a job but I was well paid, have savings and own a house which I'm currently renting out while living with family. I'm also looking for a new job.

Cybersecurity? more like cyberbullshitter.

You didn’t do a cursory search for this statement, not great for IT

Seagrassbasket · 03/07/2024 23:10

There was a post on a thread earlier which linked an article written by a ‘zoomer’ outlining the reasons why so many of that generation are voting reform. It was very interesting I’ll see if I can find it.

Your a school. You're supposed to be impartial about politics !!!

SummerBarbecues · 03/07/2024 23:16

DC told me her school mock elections has a lot of reform supporters. They have slogans like fuck the environment. I hope the kids are just doing it to be controversial.

Hugsbunny · 03/07/2024 23:18

Having lived there, I'd be all in for a French style insurance system. It would solve most of the problems of the NHS with a minimal uptick in expenditure.

Would never be acceptable to the labour party though as it gives full control over choice of providers to taxpayers.
