Women - don't lose your daughters' rights

Isthisexpected · 02/07/2024 11:54

I came across two women this morning at playgroup who have no idea that the Greens, Labour, Lib Dems all have policies that will privilege men with various gender identities over women.

Please please before you vote - look up what each party believes is a woman. This will tell you all you need to know about whether they'll protect your daughter from having to change in front of a person born male, or share a tent with them at camp or compete against them in sport, or share a toilet and living room in a women's refuge....

I'm not telling you who to vote for. But please be informed about women's rights, for your daughters/grandchildren if not yourself.

Terribly sorry for not using the word represented - I’m sure there’s no way you understood what I meant. 🙄

So who can represent everyone concerned? That's the problem, we aren't a hive mind.

Well, balance the fact they might one day meet a transwoman in a toilet with the rights they've already lost after 14 years of Conservative government; the right to work, study and live in the EU with minimal problems, the right to protest, to legal aid, to protections at work, to clean rivers, EU standards on food and the environment etc.

Then consider the Conservative's and Reform's plans to take us out of the ECHR, which could remove these rights

  1. The right to life
  2. The right not to be tortured
  3. The right not to be a slave
  4. The right to a fair trial
  5. The right NOT to be punished if you haven’t broken the law
  6. The right to private family life
  7. The right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion
  8. The right to freedom of expression
  9. The right to marry and start a family
  10. The right to peaceful enjoyment of possessions
  11. The right to education
  12. The right to free elections
  13. The right NOT to be given to death penalty.

We've seen what the Heritage Foundation backed politics in the US has done, from banning abortion to politicising the judiciary to have an idea of what's on store if we elect these people.

All of them? Even Karen White, Isla Bryson and Katie Dolatowski?
No thanks.

So you would not include Tories as part of the problem? After what they haven't done for women?

Amazing that people can look at the state we are in and now and think we can afford to vote on one single issue, where the Labour party aren't exactly going to sacrifice women anyway.

How many years did Women push and fight to not be defined by genitals and being baby factories? I am more than a vulva.

Hmm. There are two senses of the word 'defined' aren't there.
Obviously women are defined as having a female reproductive system.*
The alternative of defining them as having some sort of fluffy pink lady brain is a bit offensive, don't you think?

You've switched there to using 'defined by' in the sense of 'limited to'.

Do you think it's more limiting to the view of women as full human beings, to see them as normal people who happen to have female bodies, or as a collection of womanly gender stereotypes?

*even if nonfunctional, non-used, etc

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 02/07/2024 15:05

I’m voting Labour.

So is dd

Oldcroneandthreewitches · 02/07/2024 15:08

‘I hate the tories that much I’m going to throw myself, daughter and granddaughters under the bus!’- that will teach them’…..

Not forgetting the women who have had their reproductive system removed for medical reasons.

Noosnom · 02/07/2024 15:10

I am aware of this. I'm still not voting Tory.
When Labour get I will be going in hard to tell them why we don't want men in women's spaces.

I’m a GC Woman

I am voting Labour

Me too.

It's a big issue, it makes me unhappy that I'm voting Labour, but it's one issue among many and on the balance I would rather vote Labour than Tory

Peonies12 · 02/07/2024 15:14

Get some perspective. Look at the state of maternity services, female health services childcare etc. that is far more important that gender ideology.

apologies, i meant to type SOLELY defined.

RedWinePoliticsAndHair · 02/07/2024 12:06

Newsflash: the Tories don't give a shit about women, they've just realised that this is an easy way to get votes from one-issue voters.

This. The Tories would slash maternity leave in the name of 'productivity' given half a chance. They'd ban abortion if they thought it'd be a vote winner.

The best way to stop abusive men is better law enforcement and police practice around VAWG. Not often unenforceable restrictions on a tiny number of trans women and girls.

Yes I think OP is forgetting there will be many young women using their vote this year for the first time. Pretty much every single one of them will know a trans person, friend, classmate, uni mate, someone in their social circle. They are more concerned about their futures regarding education, jobs, healthcare, mortgages etc, than a man in the Primark changing rooms.

whereas in 5 out of 6 cases they will be attacked by a man they know, not a stranger. and 1 in 2 is their current or ex partner.
