Women - don't lose your daughters' rights

Isthisexpected · 02/07/2024 11:54

I came across two women this morning at playgroup who have no idea that the Greens, Labour, Lib Dems all have policies that will privilege men with various gender identities over women.

Please please before you vote - look up what each party believes is a woman. This will tell you all you need to know about whether they'll protect your daughter from having to change in front of a person born male, or share a tent with them at camp or compete against them in sport, or share a toilet and living room in a women's refuge....

I'm not telling you who to vote for. But please be informed about women's rights, for your daughters/grandchildren if not yourself.

Including trans women isn't privileging them. Nobody is giving away women's rights.

If you give trans women women's rights then it absolutely does give women's rights away, as it just turns us all into humans, with no special protections available for being female.

Letting penis people into spaces that are meant to be for vulva people only is giving away their rights.

Transwomen shouldn't be included. They're men.

The people I know are well aware of the damage the Tories have done to women, children, disabled people etc and that they would continue to do if we don't vote them out.

They also don't believe for a second that the Tories give a shit about women or would make good on any of their promises.

This won't decide my vote.

I will never forget how the Tories sold Gen Z down the river though and it does affect my vote, as it does DD1 who is voting for the first time on Thursday. I will never, ever vote for them.

housemaus · 02/07/2024 13:40

I've read all the manifestos and will be voting based on a variety of factors. I also think it's worth pointing out that women's rights are much more than this one issue and that people should bear parties' approach to funding the NHS properly, to tax, to support for working mothers, to policing and funding of the justice system etc in mind too.

Noone is annoyed about trans women being given their own spaces and opportunities etc.
Only when they are given these within women's spaces and opportunities instead of being catered for as trans women.
Obviously turning women's competitions/spaces into mixed sex areas removes women's rights.

I'm not telling my daughter that I voted to erase her godmother's rights, so I will be voting Labour. My daughter will be just fine.

Reducing people to their genitalia is dehumanising and reductive. I’m increasingly feeling that I have far more in common with trans women than some natal women.

How many years did Women push and fight to not be defined by genitals and being baby factories? I am more than a vulva.

Makegoodchoices · 02/07/2024 14:01

I’m more likely to spoil my ballot than vote Tory. But I’m also very conscious that the other parties believe in ‘no debate’ on sex-based issues that very much require some robust and data driven debate.

All I need from them is clear acknowledgement of this and a commitment to openly discuss these issues with everyone concerned in the room. Not to give away women’s exclusions based on being kind.

You can be kind without throwing safeguarding away. You can be kind and understand that needs differ and facts do matter.

DumbassHamsterSitterPerson · 02/07/2024 14:06

I used penis people and vulva people to make it clear I was separating by sex not gender feels.
If I'd have said men can't be in women's spaces no doubt someone would have said TWAW. Hmm

it'll be pretty difficult to have 51% of the population in one room in fairness.

The Tories have done nothing to support women in any way in 14 years...

If you think they care about women more than other parties you are completely naive. They only jumped on the trans debate to try to gain a few votes from the gullible...

As far as I am concerned my priority as a woman are the cost of living, housing, Health, social care, policing, education...

I could not care less about what trans people do or don't do with their lives or what gender identities people want to give themselves.

It has zero negative impact on my daily life.

Very well said.

I actively support trans women and trans men and have since meeting my first trans woman in 1979. However their gender identity has zero impact on my life. I also have never met a woman who has been hurt by a trans woman. But I know many who have been physically assaulted by men. Myself included. Men do not dress as women to assault women. They just do it.

Weren’t the other umpteen threads about this enough for you @Isthisexpected?

Ah still time to cram a few more in before Thursday

we haven't had a private education one in a while have we? what a shame.

ReignOfError · 02/07/2024 14:09

I’ve lived through several Tory governments, and not one of them ever did anything to benefit women. They genuinely do not give a shit, and they’ve seized one this issue as part of their divisive and damaging culture war approach to politics. My granddaughters need access to good education, to healthcare, to equality of opportunity for those that have poorer parents than the others, to effective infrastructure and affordable housing, to secure employment with workers’ rights enshrined in law, and so much more… and there is no way the Tories give - or have ever given - a flying fuck about those things.

Don't jinx it!

Bettedaviseyes111 · 02/07/2024 14:12

This isn’t the issue that should define a vote. The economy and public services are the wider problem.

Onewayanoth · 02/07/2024 14:12

I think people are deluded if they think a continued Tory government is going to benefit women. I will vote for a more inclusive society for everyone.

Terribly sorry for not using the word represented - I’m sure there’s no way you understood what I meant. 🙄
