General election 2024

Women - don't lose your daughters' rights

Isthisexpected · 02/07/2024 11:54

I came across two women this morning at playgroup who have no idea that the Greens, Labour, Lib Dems all have policies that will privilege men with various gender identities over women.

Please please before you vote - look up what each party believes is a woman. This will tell you all you need to know about whether they'll protect your daughter from having to change in front of a person born male, or share a tent with them at camp or compete against them in sport, or share a toilet and living room in a women's refuge....

I'm not telling you who to vote for. But please be informed about women's rights, for your daughters/grandchildren if not yourself.

Thank you. I am informed on this issue but it’s not the issue that will decide my vote.

App13 · 02/07/2024 11:59

I am thank you and this will decide my vote.

CovertPiggery · 02/07/2024 12:00

Everyone I know who's voting Labour is well aware of this.

Where I am, the choice is Tory or Labour. None of the others have a chance.

The people I know are well aware of the damage the Tories have done to women, children, disabled people etc and that they would continue to do if we don't vote them out.

They also don't believe for a second that the Tories give a shit about women or would make good on any of their promises.

RedWinePoliticsAndHair · 02/07/2024 12:06

Newsflash: the Tories don't give a shit about women, they've just realised that this is an easy way to get votes from one-issue voters.

Startingagainandagain · 02/07/2024 12:42

The Tories have done nothing to support women in any way in 14 years...

If you think they care about women more than other parties you are completely naive. They only jumped on the trans debate to try to gain a few votes from the gullible...

As far as I am concerned my priority as a woman are the cost of living, housing, Health, social care, policing, education...

I could not care less about what trans people do or don't do with their lives or what gender identities people want to give themselves.

It has zero negative impact on my daily life.

Shortfatsuit · 02/07/2024 12:50

Thanks. I care about my daughter's rights and my own. But not to the exclusion of everything else in society.

I've read the manifestos, I've considered this issue and i have thought about the many other issues that are important to me.

I won't be voting on the basis of this one issue alone because it doesn't matter to me if the government knows what a woman is if everything else in society is collapsing... what good will that do me or my daughter?

I’m a GC Woman

I am voting Labour

BIossomtoes · 02/07/2024 12:57

Weren’t the other umpteen threads about this enough for you @Isthisexpected?

StarDolphins · 02/07/2024 13:00

I was voting for Labour but now I’m not because of this reason. I also won’t for tories as they’re terrible for animal welfare. So rather than choosing one that hates women & one that hates animals, I will just turn up on the day & tick any other box.

PeachPairPlum · 02/07/2024 13:00

I'm not voting tory. There are many issues to consider and the country is currently in a mess.

This.

I'm fully informed of where all the parties stand and I don't believe Labour or lib dems are going to trample over womens hard-won rights.

There isn't an easy solution to protecting both cis women & trans women from male violence but I trust both of these parties to find a way forward more than I trust any other.

The Tories have been appalling for women's rights, which extend to more than bathrooms and changing rooms, and women's choices and opportunities have been hugely curtailed under their government.

I urge people to think carefully of their vote and what life has been like for the last 14 years.

Meadowfinch · 02/07/2024 13:04

Thank you for pointing it out.

This is the issue that will decide my vote. 150 years of fighting for women's right is too precious to throw away.

fiddleleaffig · 02/07/2024 13:06

I think you are in a very privileged position if your only consideration as to who to vote for is who can define a woman.

Personally, things like families being able to put food on the table and making sure no child arrives at school hungry and the disabled being treated with dignity are far greater concerns.

But ya know, you do you

DumbassHamsterSitterPerson · 02/07/2024 13:07

I don't have daughters. I do have nieces. I might have granddaughters one day.

I won't vote Tory. They only want to know what a woman is so they know who to discriminate against.

While the issue is important to me, as a single parent who relies on benefits to live, thats a more important issue to me right now.

grumpypedestrian · 02/07/2024 13:08

Genuine question OP @Isthisexpected do you really think Tories care about women’s rights? Do you think single mothers lives have improved under the Tories?

Theres more to women’s rights than the trans issue.

This should be plastered on every billboard. The Tories austerity programme has destroyed women’s lives - they are massively more affected by it than men. The fact they can smugly tell you women don’t have penises doesn’t mean they give a fuck about said women.

Moonshiners · 02/07/2024 13:09

Only a fool would consider that the Tories will make life better for women when all they have done is made it worse.

Alwaystired94 · 02/07/2024 13:09

Agreed! So i'll be voting in the interests of my daughter when it comes to a better NHS, better education, better gynaecology and maternity services, a plan to reduce VAWG and clear the backlog of rape cases awaiting trial. Not to mention, tackling the use of food banks and other areas of poverty.

So yeah, i actually care about women, the policies above benefit ALL women.

You do know there’s no proposal to take your right to vote away from you?

That's not the only rights women have fought for.

Alwaystired94 · 02/07/2024 13:15

I almost hope these posts aren't bots because if so thats the worst money they've spent on BS. And we all know what happened with their PPE contracts.

Nicelynicelyjohnson · 02/07/2024 13:17

Is this post on behalf of the Conservatives or Reform?
I never know these days.

Same thing when it comes down to it.

MimitteAndElsaGoToSwitzerland · 02/07/2024 13:21

Do you think I can't see the world around me and remember the past fourteen years of my life?

What the fuck have the Tories done for me, as a woman? They've made my life significantly harder than it needed to be.

For one thing, I ended up with pelvic inflammatory disease because it was impossible to get an appointment to get my coil taken out.

So no, I'm not buying into any fucking fairy stories about how the Tories care about women. Fuck off with that horseshit.
