Why aren't Reform voters ashamed?

They don't seem to care that everyone will know they're racists.

It seems incredible to me that people are open about voting for them.

No I mean the Gender Recognition Certificate. (GRC).

I'm not sure how adding biological sex changes anything. The EA already gives women the right to separate sex facilities.

And the GRC makes men in to legal women so therefore they will use women's spaces (and are doing). If the EA was updated we could hoof them out of our spaces.

I cannot believe that in 2024 we are even having this debate. Sex = bio sex only.

According to the lady in my corner shop, they are the only party who care about "proper English people" and are saying what we all think and feel. A breath of fresh air...

hairbearbunches · 30/06/2024 18:04

@ACarefulTraveller there was less antisemitism in the Labour Party than there is in the country at large. It was a ploy straight from the Republican Party in the US. Accuse someone of the very thing they have spent their entire life opposing and keep accusing them of it. You were played if you didn't vote Labour because they were antisemitic. You voted to keep the establishment right where it is.

How many people has starmer kicked out? How many? He's kicked out more left wing people than he has kicked out antisemitic members.

ACarefulTraveller · 30/06/2024 18:05

LakeTiticaca · 30/06/2024 18:03

Yes it's being investigated as electoral interference. Channel 4 could be in very big trouble.
I commented this a couple of days ago but was handed my arse

No, Farage has claimed it's electoral interference to try to save face. Of course his claim has to be heard, but that doesn't mean it has the slightest shred of merit.

Have you all read all of the parties manifestos? Not many seem to bother to read the actual proposals made by any one party let alone all of them.

EarthlyNightshade · 30/06/2024 17:44

I can understand this view.
However, I still don't understand what people think Reform will do to improve things, do you think they have an actual plan to stop immigration or are they just saying words that some people want to hear?

At this point I don’t think it matters. Just having someone discuss these issues openly is enough to make people trust him.

We’re not exactly inundated with politicians willing to have a proper conversation about immigration and other issues. This isn’t leaving people with options.

Layla Moran was arrested for domestic violence:

www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/layla-moran-set-to-withdraw-from-liberal-democrat-leadership-race-following-revelations-she-was-arrested-for-assaulting-a-boyfriend-a4141586.html

Does this now mean anyone voting Lib Dem is a supporter of domestic violence?

Or all tory voters are in favour of self advancement by cheating the rules, gambling...... oh actually most of them probably are!

1dayatatime · 30/06/2024 18:07

@ACarefulTraveller

"If Reform get rid of Farage and choose a leader committed to purging racism from their ranks, it won't be racist to vote for them. That hasn't happened yet."

Except even if this happened I don't believe that the "left leaning intellectual elite " would stop describing anyone from the right wing as racist or fascist.
Just as many from the right wing still believe Labour to be anti semetic.

Opinions are too entrenched on both sides. But throwing insults is not the best way to construct a counter argument.

Name a single Reform policy that is even remotely racist, please. The term has lost all meaning to me.

I can help you here

  1. Lift the income tax starting threshold to £20k
  1. Scrap energy levies and Net Zero to slash energy bills and save each household £500 per year
  1. Cutt Stamp Duty to 0% below £750k.
  1. Abolish IR35 Rules to Support Sole Traders
  1. All frontline NHS and social care staff to pay zero basic rate tax for 3 years.
  1. NHS Patients will receive a voucher for private treatment if they can’t see a GP within 3 days.
  1. NHS Operating theatres must be open on weekends.
  1. Recruitment to increase UK per capita police numbers to 300 per 100k population.
  1. Prison for violent crimes and possessing a knife. Drug dealing and trafficking will get mandatory life imprisonment
  1. We will launch a special division of the Family Court for maintenance and defaults.

11.Reopen High Intensity Training Camps for young offenders to teach basic education, teamwork and values.

  1. Scrap Interest on Student Loans

  2. All potential charges for leasehold or freehold residents must be clearly stated and consented to.

  3. introduce a UK 25% transferable marriage tax allowance. This would mean no tax on the first £25,000 of income

  4. Frontload Child Benefit system for children aged 1-4 would give parents the choice to spend more time with their children.

There is more but I'll pause,

Now, which one of these are racist? And you're telling me, you cannot see why people would find any of these attractive?

WormBum · 30/06/2024 18:10

Treacletoots · 30/06/2024 17:49

Because they have the emotional intelligence of a carrot and believe that all the country's problems are caused by foreigners whilst simultaneously moaning about the NHS blissfully ignoring the fact that so many staff in the NHS are those foreigners.

Or plain old simple common garden racists who aren't even ashamed of it.

Here we go again.
Double down with the insults, that’s getting a great result isn’t it!

In many areas immigration is causing problems.
The Rotherham abuse scandal happened because people were too scared to be called racist to actually do anything.
Surely we’ve learnt by now that this blanket accusation of racism is lazy and inaccurate.

Runnerinthenight · 30/06/2024 18:10

Because they are not that bright.

MissingMoominMamma · 30/06/2024 18:11

Their policies are ones trotted out to get votes, with no clear explanation of how that would be achieved. Just like the Brexit Bus promise.

I would be embarrassed to be seen as gullible enough to believe his lies again, even without the element of racism.

TheShellBeach · 30/06/2024 18:06

Plaid Cymru, SNP and the various Northern Ireland parties are unashamedly working for their various countries.

It's not insulting to identify racism as racism.

It's insulting to say black people have lower IQs. It's insulting to say they're savages. It's insulting to say you'd like to shoot the residents of Bradford.

It's not insulting to say that those statements are racist.

"No. It just means that anyone voting for the Lib Dems hasn't got much sense."

The "left leaning intellectual elite" really needs to learn that insulting LibDem voters as "not having much sense " is not exactly the most compelling counter argument.

QueenOfHiraeth · 30/06/2024 18:19

TreadLight · 30/06/2024 15:59

I guess Reform voters should be ashamed of being seen as racist in the same way that Labour voters should be ashamed of being seen as antisemitic.

All parties have their odious sides, just reform haven’t had time to weed theirs out yet.

Exactly this!
I am sick of seeing posts on here insulting others for making different choices when all parties have their awful people and aspects.

It seems that since Brexit, when the establishment openly encouraged the views that Brexiteers were too old, too uneducated, too poor, too white, etc that insult seems to have replaced intelligent discourse for many.

ACarefulTraveller · 30/06/2024 18:19

TinklySnail · 30/06/2024 18:17

Who has said these things?

Multiple people standing for or canvassing for Reform. The low IQ and savages comments were two separate Reform candidates exposed just this week. The shooting people of colour comment was the Reform canvasser whom Farage is pretending was a plant in a ludicrous conspiracy theory that doesn't stand up to any scrutiny.

Also this week, another Reform candidate was discovered to be a previous BNP member.

That's just one week in Reform!

converseandjeans · 30/06/2024 18:19

@TheShellBeach

What about Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish people?

I guess you have parties which represent those nations like SNP & Plaid Cymru. Their focus is mainly on those nations. I'm unsure what their policies are but I doubt they are bothered about England & I don't think Wales, Scotland & N Ireland host as many refugees or asylum seekers. So I don't think they are affected as much by issues relating to that.

I reckon Reform are going to appeal to Tories who have finally accepted that Johnson, Sunak & Truss have left the country in a mess.

Why aren't Labour voters ashamed?

This. The destruction of hard won women’s rights and children’s safeguarding as planned by labour is equally shameful, so hands up who is ashamed of their plans to vote labour. You should be.
