Why aren't Reform voters ashamed?

They don't seem to care that everyone will know they're racists.

It seems incredible to me that people are open about voting for them.

Because they genuinely see Nigel Farage as a solution to the ills caused by the political class. There are lots of poorer, working class communities where most people feel left behind. What he says resonates with those people.

And he's very good at it. Show me another politician who can draw a crowd of 4,500 people at the NEC on a Sunday when England are playing at the Euros.

Nigel Farage will be a much bigger presence in five years' time.

Don't blame him. Blame the failings of the other politicians.

Channel42 · 30/06/2024 15:58

@blackcherryconserve for me and many others unfortunately it is.

As another poster has quite rightly pointed out, the question shouldn't really be 'Why are you voting Reform' and should be 'Why are the main parties so awful women like me cannot bear to vote for them?'.

blackcherryconserve · 30/06/2024 15:58

The match doesn't begin until much later.

I do agree that the likelihood of Farage being a greater presence in 5 years time is unfortunately a possibility.

@cupcaske123 by allowing biological men into women's single sex spaces, hospitals, refuges, prisons, changing rooms, toilets, sports, clubs, competitions.....

If Labour said tomorrow that humans cannot change sex and single sex areas are protected (without exception) they would probably have my vote. But they won't, so they won't have my vote.

Firstly, the Tories have been doing that for years. Labour weren't in power when that was going on.

Secondly, the GRC is a human rights issue from us signing up to the ECHR. The Tories aren't going to stop it and they didn't when they were in power.

Thirdly, Labour want to protect women further regarding domestic violence and rape through specialist courts

Fourth, A GRC will still be difficult to attain. It will take two years plus the process of seeing a gender specialist.

Fifth, Labour are continuing to support the Equality Act which protects women's space. Women's spaces are already protected.

@Leah5678 excellent point. If I was trying to destroy women's safety, I would certainly feel ashamed.

I would be ashamed of being a Labour, Lub Dem, Green, SNP voter, particularly if I am a woman, because of their shameful policies on biological women’s rights which puts our safety, opportunities and dignity at risk and which in effect relegated us to being second class citizens behind men and trans woMEN

TreadLight · 30/06/2024 15:59

I guess Reform voters should be ashamed of being seen as racist in the same way that Labour voters should be ashamed of being seen as antisemitic.

All parties have their odious sides, just reform haven’t had time to weed theirs out yet.

ShouldhavebeencalledAppollo · 30/06/2024 15:18

I can’t quite work out why people would vote reform. I don’t know anyone admitting it so I can ask.

However, I think the rhetoric of ‘you should be ashamed if you vote X party’ or ‘you must be thick if you vote x party’ or ‘x voters are racist’ isn’t helpful at all.

People often cite for these parties because they don’t feel listen to. They feel ignored. They feel unsupported.

By just insulting them or accusing them of being stupid or racist, you just cement their thoughts.

It’s how we ended up with brexit. People were fucked off and not listened to. People who voted leave were called racists and bigots and idiots and look what happened. It’s easy to say they are all racist, rather than look at the actual problem.

Their perspective is very often different I suspect Reform will get a lot of votes here. Because we are an area that’s had influxes for refugees in hotels. And the area is suffering for it. The village I am in the edge of is suffering for it.

The question should be ‘is why do so many people feel they don’t want to vote for (as an example) Labour.’

and the big parties should be taking a long hard look at what why so many people feel they can’t vote for them.

100% agree! Well put. Easter Smile

I think the majority of immigrants come from India and Poland.

Confused as to why you think this matters? My point still stands

Channel42 · 30/06/2024 16:02

@cupcaske123 😂 Have you hear Keir Starmer in ALL his recent interviews? He cannot/will not define a woman, or answer the question about women's protected spaces. In short, I don't believe him. I've written to my local Labour candidate and he's firmly TWAW so no luck here.

TheShellBeach · 30/06/2024 16:03

They are too thick to be ashamed.

That seems likely.

But nothing makes me think Reform and their policies (?) are any better than the mainstream political parties! Too many of their supporters hold racist views, even if you personally don't.

It's really problematic.
I'm a Labour voter in general but I'm struggling with the TWAW rhetoric.

I'm not at all surprised by your comment. It is a fact whether we like it or not that immigration here (as in all European countries) is a huge burden. Sadly if immigrants can't or won't integrate within the host communities they are bound to create division.

How can Labour protect women when they won't even define what a woman is?

I've heard Starmer talk clearly about the need to protect biological women's spaces. I've heard him talking about protecting women and the changes he wants to implement on DV. I've heard him say that they will make exceptions to the GRC to make women safe.

A laughing emoji is hardly a constructive argument. I thought you wanted a discussion.

Channel42 · 30/06/2024 16:09

@blackcherryconserve They're not any better. But women's safety is absolutely key to me and I cannot bear to vote for anyone who hates us. Thinking men can we women is the ultimate act of misogyny.

Mycatsmudge · 30/06/2024 16:11

The end of biological women’s rights starts later this week:

What exactly have Reform stated with regard to women and men/aka trans people pretending to be women, then? How are they protecting us any more than Cons, Labour et al?

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 30/06/2024 16:14

Greenleavesinthesun · 30/06/2024 14:58

That doesn’t make the party racist though does it, it just means there are a few twats in the party, there’s a few twats in every party.

The party leader is a racist, and the leader sets the culture. He knew exactly what he was saying when he said Sunak "doesn't understand our culture".

Labelling people thick and racist was what happened with the Brexit vote and look how that turned out.

Figgygal · 30/06/2024 16:16

It's that old thing of not all reform voters are racist but all racists vote for them.

They don't see what's wrong with their views or don't care. There's no arguing with these people
