Why aren't Reform voters ashamed?

They don't seem to care that everyone will know they're racists.

It seems incredible to me that people are open about voting for them.

I think a huge proportion of the country, from all ethnic backgrounds, are what could be described as racist though. They want to keep culture as their own, they fear or dislike other races and don't see value in multiculturalism. They're probably not ashamed because it's what they genuinely think and believe to be "better". The kind of logic that would go along the lines of "I'm happy with everyone to do what they want but don't tune my church into a mosque and don't replace the local shop with a polish supermarket."

A huge number of people don't want their culture to change - obviously UK is historically a white Christian country and many people in it want it to go back to that (as opposed to a more multiracial society it is today.) it's not just white people who feel that way, cultures across the globe have a tendency to prefer to keep their own dominant in their country. The people who genuinely want to live in a mixed and multicultural society are probably in the minority.

Well said FishPhoods, that's a sensible and balanced viewpoint, but be prepared for the pile on

StaunchMomma · 30/06/2024 20:35

Because they've fallen for the blatant lies and propaganda, the same as they did with Brexit.

They think they know better and are there to 'save ARE country' 😂

Notaflippinclue · 30/06/2024 20:37

The French are voting now - are they racist for wanting change

TheShellBeach · 30/06/2024 20:37

TinklySnail · 30/06/2024 20:11

So you can’t provide any evidence and are still adamant that all reform voters are racist? Despite evidence that Reform has booted out the racists?

What all of them?

There’s a paywall. Does it provide documentation?

Andrew Tate isn’t a candidate either @ACarefulTraveller. Nice defence of Tennant though, well done you

But he was endorsed as a public figure by Farage. “An important voice for young men” about a person who is awaiting trial for trafficking.

David Tennant made a comment about a specific woman. Tate advocates the shocking abuse of ALL women. He doesn’t just wish that one would shut up. You can’t compare the two, it’s ridiculous. It’s like comparing David Tennant with Fred West.

So sad that good people are being hoodwinked by Farage. A wolf in sheep's clothing if ever I saw one. No doubt 100 years ago many Germans felt the same about Hitler. I have skin in the game. My mother grew up in Germany then. Luckily she lived to tell the tale.

My MIL announced, this afternoon, that she thought Farage had a lot going for him. Mind you, she liked Trump too.

Talk about lacking in any critical faculties 🙄

Churchview · 30/06/2024 20:51

@TinklySnail They refer to documents showing that Farage wrote to Powell asking for help at two by elections in the 90s. The letters were followed up by more from UKIP party officials asking for Powell's help and asking him to stand as a candidate.

The documents are held at Cambridge University.

Autocorrect is a bastard!

But you could say the same about the blind supporter of any party, surely?

Are they in the public domain? I ask because I can not find them.

Farage said Andrew Tate was ‘important voice’ for men in podcast interview

Reform UK leader has also argued against diversity quotas and said people on benefits were ‘too stupid’ to work in appearances over past year

I don't know I'm afraid. The journalist was Christopher Hope who is at GB News. He might be able to provide more information.

Churchview · 30/06/2024 20:58

@TinklySnail - I've read on here that you can get through the Telegraph pay wall by switching on airplane mode. I don't know if or how that works, but might be worth a try.

Justcallmebebes · 30/06/2024 20:58

It's like no-one has learned from Hilary Clinton's labelling Trump supporters as "deplorables". The more you pile on and insult those who hold against the mainstream, Liberal way of thought, the more they are likely to vote against it. Also brilliantly demonstrated by Brexit

Thank you. I’m sure if it’s true they will be documents somewhere to view. I’ll try Reddit, they have everything on there.

Ooh thank you, I did not know this. Heading over to test it out

1dayatatime · 30/06/2024 21:08

@Anonym00se

"Why though?"

Because insulting people is not an effective counter argument and means of changing their views.

letsgoooo · 30/06/2024 21:09

It's like you are asking why ignorant people aren't embarrassed that they are ignorant. Or why people with terrible BO aren't embarrassed, or people who pronounce words incorrectly...

They don't think they are or they think that they are right

Dorisbonson · 30/06/2024 21:09

UK net migration in the 1990s was in the tens of thousands. Now it's 750,000 a year - go and see the Office for National Statistics website - it's there.

Australia a country of migrants had net migration of 140,000 last year. Germany was 150,000. France was 183,000. The USA (one of the largest countries in the world with a population of 320m) had net migration of just over 1m people in 2023.

Labour has a house building target of 350,000 homes a year. We haven't built that many homes a year ever. If we have net immigration of 750,000 a year, building 350,000 homes a year won't go very far.

I don't think it's racist to question the level of immigration to the UK or any other country.
