Unless absolutely SHEDLOADS of people who voted Conservative in 2019 vote Labour this time.

That's right, isn't it?

Oi! I'm over 62 and I have no intention of dying off any time soon. Nor do I have any intention of voting Conservative (and even less intention to vote for the terminally ghastly Reform).

Okay, but I was expressly talking about populations not you as an individual ....

If the average age of a Conservative voter is 62, then many Conservative voters will be older than 62. And we've just come out of a pandemic that had the highest levels of excess mortality in older age groups.

10% of Conservative voters are estimated to have died since the 2019 election https://www.newstatesman.com/podcasts/new-statesman-podcast/2024/03/one-in-ten-conservative-voters-have-died-since-2019

Change in voting patterns is not only, or even mostly, about individuals switching allegiance, is my point. It's about population level change.

One in ten Conservative voters have died since 2019

Exclusive analysis revealed on the New Statesman podcast.

You should vote for the Tories, they have only had 14 years to do their thing. They need at least another 30.

But l was a young adult under Thatcher. And never had smartphones, although we had amazing music. And life was really shite under her.

Life was indeed fantastic under Blair and nowt to do with smartphones or music.

He made my life as a teacher and single parent much much better.

Labour will win - any election win where the government changes relies on lots of people changing their votes, so clearly it does happen. I also don't think it will be quite the landslide expected, but probably a pretty clear majority. I don't think there can actually be that many 'silent Tories' against what the polls are saying, but Lib Dem votes may split enough anti-Tory votes to let them back in in some seats, ours included. Labour aren't great but the Tories are appalling and it still boggles my mind how long it has taken people to see that, but there you go.

Why would anyone anywhere want another dose of the utter total shaming shambolic government the Conservatives imposed?
Are you mad?

This is the kind of attitude that scares me about Labour and Labour supporters. The absolute conviction that they are right and everyone else is mad or immoral.

verdantverdure · 29/06/2024 20:03

I’m sure I read somewhere that the age point at which more people tended to be a Conservative used to be 40.

Nowadays it’s 71.

I think it is rather likely that Labours wins a majority this time.
Tories will not win this one! Neither they sound or remotely act like they want to win.
I do not think Rishi Sunak can possibly do anything else to be unpopular.....

Hedgeoffressian · 29/06/2024 20:03

I’m not sure who will win but I’m so sick of Labour voters being so rude about anyone who votes Conservative.

BeverForget · 29/06/2024 20:04

Labour will get a working majority.
Mostly due to apathy amongst a lot of voters and the Scots finally realising that the SNP are bunch of dodgy charlatans.
They will fall apart through infighting very quickly though.

But this is true.

Pqrtygate
PPE
Jobs for the boys
Education secretary giving the finger
Blatantly lying about Brexit.

I could go on and on

Labour
Bought a field for a donkey
Kept a council house.

There's a graph:

Do you mean that the Tories are in forever because people will keep voting for them?
What is it about the Tories that still appeals to the majority?

They have slightly better answers on how they will protect women's rights against all the trans bollocks.

Justcallmebebes · 29/06/2024 20:05

I've usually swayed Tory but voted for Blair in 97 because, exactly like nowadays, we needed a massive change. However Labour went south pretty quickly and we were back to the Tories. I predict the same again under Starmer

I agree, it’s so tiresome. It’s all over Facebook at the moment. Anyone who votes Conservative and admitted to it on Facebook would get ripped to shreds.

Lol, the poster did not even mention Labour!
They just stated they do not want the tories back and find anyone wishing for that to be mad, to which I wholeheartily agree! Enough of this farce and letting the country get worst and worst by the minute.

Any ‘floating voters’ who vote Tory/Labour/Lib Dem depending on policy, leadership, etc will not be voting Conservative. Boris and Liz Truss have eroded trust entirely. They’ve handed this election to Labour on a plate. Only die hard Conservatives will be voting for them. So yes, Labour will win.

Although I would never rip anyone to shreds for their personal views I do wonder what exactly they hope will change given the evidence of the last 14 years.

I was at the housss of parliament on Monday and we spoke with baroness who said Keir starmer is without a doubt going to win

They have slightly better answers on how they will protect women's rights against all the trans bollocks.

Meanwhile, women have disproportionately suffered from the years of austerity.

And the cuts to criminal justice systems and the police - it's no coincidence that rapes take longer to prosecute now and charging / conviction rates have dropped. The stats speak for themselves.

Anyone who thinks the Conservative Party are good for women is seriously deluded imo.

They might know what a woman is, but they use that knowledge against us, not for us. I mean, a bloody misogynist rapist will know what a woman is - that's not a reason to support them!

Yeah, think that's a given without "inside" knowledge from a baroness. Lol

Yet all of the current issues we have in that respect have come in under a Tory government

I'm not sure why a random baroness would be more convincing than the dozens and dozens of properly conducted polls on this question?
