General election 2024

Seeing as it’s anonymous… where is your vote going?

My views -

Conservative - Potentially had a tough ride with Covid & brexit aftermath to navigate. However, looking at the state of the NHS & the ever increasing price rises in almost everything… how could I vote them in again?

Labour - Almost feels like the only likely alternative. Change is as good as any? But Keir starmer does precisely 0 for me. I cannot get passionate about him.

Greens - Won our constituency a while ago, whilst I appreciate what they stand for the changes they made locally have had a negative impact on the average citizen IMO.

Reform - Nigel Farage is DIFFERENT, I don’t think that can be denied. Part of me thinks bold and controversial is what we need and the other thinks he is a brilliant campaigner and is just playing up to the people trying to act like ‘one of the working class’ to garner votes.

Where is your vote going?

Lib Dem but that’s a tactical vote. I want a Labour Government.

AddersAtDawn · 11/06/2024 09:19

And this particular Tory government, which with its incompetence, malevolence and corruption is the worst in my lifetime, deserves to be consigned to a generation on the back benches.

Agree with this.

In 2010 I voted Tory - but having watched what's happened since, I cannot stand this lot. No way do I want them back.

talk of taxing pensions would clobber me financially.

I worried about this too. But when I looked into it, it was a load of noise about nothing at all. Made me wonder if this wasn't another "£2000" line that the Tories know is a lie but keep repeating in in the hope it sticks.

I'm really disappointed with this government. They have been useful, greedy and untrustworthy is equal measures and nothing at all like the party they used to be.

I don't want a further right party so no Reform for me.

That leaves Labour, Lib Dems or Greens. Just waiting for all manifestos and watching the debates to help me select.

NashvilleQueen · 11/06/2024 09:14

@sparkellie has your boundary changed? That might impact who is now most likely to beat the tories.

The constituency boundary has changed but not the ward. I'm not entirely sure exactly how one impacts the other when it cones to elections. Does the number of wards won not decide who wins the constituency? The labour candidate in my ward has pretty much 0% chance of getting in and I don't want to waste my vote, as I think it could be tight between green and Conservative... 🥴

Frosty1000 · 11/06/2024 09:38

Heart is Lib Dem but not any good around here so probably Labour this year which is the next in line so as to get rid of our Tory MP.

ItsFuckingBoringFeedingEveryoneUntilYouDie · 11/06/2024 09:47

LibDem, because I am a member.

They are unlikely to get in here though, so the best I can hope is that the boundary changes are enough to mean the Tory gets the boot for Labour.

Unphased · 11/06/2024 09:53

Isn’t a sad political situation, when people are voting tactically not voting for the party they actually want, Labour will get in, not because of their polices, just because they aren’t Tory,

I don't find that sad, it's tactical and rational - there are different ways of making the most of your vote, which is all you've got. I'm not going to vote (for the first time in my life) because mine's a safe Labour seat and I want to send them a message that they can't take me for granted. Respect my sex if you want my X!

NashvilleQueen · 11/06/2024 10:19

@Unphased I want a Labour government but if I vote for them here I am boosting the Tories. So I'll vote tactically because a Lib Dem MP and a Labour government is much much better than what I currently have which is a shit Tory MP and an equally shit Tory government.

Anonym00se · 11/06/2024 10:29

BloodyHellKenAgain · 11/06/2024 08:10

I'm in one of the seats Labour hopes to win.

I want to vote Labour but can't because of their lack of support for single sex spaces/treatment of Rosie Duffield etc and KS gaping silence on Cass. I just don't trust them.

So I will be either spoiling my vote or for the first time voting Conservative as a protest vote.

Come July 5th I'm hoping for a hung Parliament to give all parties a chance to regroup and get some sensible candidates and policies for next time.

You must really detest trans people if you’d rather saddle us with another five years of this than vote for a party that acknowledges their right to exist. Are there not more pressing issues in the country right now?

Yeah, you got me. I detest trans people 🙄😂
Womens rights and child safe guarding will always sway my vote.

There are much more pressing issues but those who want to control us for their own gain don’t want you to think about those, hence this absolute nonsense about trans people. People are so bloody gullible.

Greycheck · 11/06/2024 12:17

Might not bother voting or will end up spoiling. Lab & Cons are the same thing, Greens not for me, Lib Dem meaningless and not really heard of Reform.

OolongTeaDrinker · 11/06/2024 12:32

I spoilt my ballot paper in 2019, and I'll probably do that again. I can't in good conscious vote LibDem or Labour due to their capture by gender ideologues, and the Tories have clearly woefully mismanaged the country since Brexit, so I am completely politically homeless.

40somethingme · 11/06/2024 16:16

The only candidate in my area who has a chance of winning against the current conservative mp is labour so that’s where my vote is going.

Tactical voting is often the only way to have your vote count in a FPTP system. It's the fault of our electoral system that people resort to this. Its sad that no one is willing to change the electoral system. Not tactical voting.

Precisely. Even spoiling my ballot would equate to voting for conservatives in my area.

For the first time since 2015 - Kabour

happyboysandhappygirlsarewe · 11/06/2024 16:57

Labour. I am sad they have had to lurch so far right to become electable but hey ho.

That led by donkeys film about Farage made me cry.
I cannot believe anyone could vote for a man like that.
I cannot believe he’s getting air time.

Lib Dem or Labour but only Lib Dem have a chance against the Conservatives where I am.

featheryfancy · 11/06/2024 17:12

Labour

I listen to the podcast "the trawl" which I highly recommend. This week they were talking about Lib Dem's and I can't recall if it was the Lib Dem canvasser or Ed Davey himself but they basicallly said they are trying to get on question time but they aren't invited or allowed. Very interesting as they had all but disappeared.

I'd be surprised if Ed Davey wants to go on QT and risk being questioned about the part he played in the Post Office debacle.
