General election 2024

Seeing as it’s anonymous… where is your vote going?

Wheresyourvote · 10/06/2024 20:32

My views -

Conservative - Potentially had a tough ride with Covid & brexit aftermath to navigate. However, looking at the state of the NHS & the ever increasing price rises in almost everything… how could I vote them in again?

Labour - Almost feels like the only likely alternative. Change is as good as any? But Keir starmer does precisely 0 for me. I cannot get passionate about him.

Greens - Won our constituency a while ago, whilst I appreciate what they stand for the changes they made locally have had a negative impact on the average citizen IMO.

Reform - Nigel Farage is DIFFERENT, I don’t think that can be denied. Part of me thinks bold and controversial is what we need and the other thinks he is a brilliant campaigner and is just playing up to the people trying to act like ‘one of the working class’ to garner votes.

Where is your vote going?

Well, we've 'turned the corner' and are now just going round the bend.

Actually I may abstain in this vote.

Feeltoooldtostudybutdoingitanyway · 11/06/2024 18:38

Because I'm really bored & a little curious I thought I'd try & add up the voting intention from this thread. Its only an approximate, I haven't double checked.

Undecided/might not vote 24%
Conservatives 3%
Labour 43%
Liberal Democrats 13%
Reform 8%
Green 2%
SNP 3%
Plaid Cymru 1%
Other 3%

The labour percent is broadly in line with the polls coming out atm, a little higher, which I guess is expected when you are only asking one area of the Internet. Conservatives lower than national polling.

I'm waiting for more data from my area before I decide who to vote for, I think it's between an independent & lib dems to get conservatives out in our area, but sadly it is a tory stronghold.

IDontLikePinaColadas · 11/06/2024 18:41

I’m choosing to vote for the candidate I think would be the best MP for where I live this time around, which is Lib Dem; don’t really want any of them in power tbh, but I think he’s definitely the best option for my area.

Wheresyourvote · 11/06/2024 18:42

@Feeltoooldtostudybutdoingitanyway ooo that is interesting I admire your dedication! Thanks for that.

I'm historically Tory, but our MP has been in role for 24yrs and he isn't helping. So we have to change.

I emailed our labour candidate and asked some questions to which I got reasonably good answers so, I think I'm going there.

I honestly think it will be a labour landslide. It's risky but it can't get much worse.

I feel sorry for Sunak. He does generally know what he's doing in my view and deserves a full term, but the rest of the cabinet are useless self emersed twats and we can't run the country on one man.

Anniegetyourgun · 11/06/2024 18:49

I'm in the happy position that the Labour candidate ticks all 3 of my boxes. Seems like a nice person (we met briefly about a year ago, and has a decent resumé); stands the best chance of ousting the long-standing Tory; and I preferred to vote for Labour anyway. DS, who leans Green, and DSis, a disaffected Conservative, have said they're doing the same. However, the incumbent has a pretty hefty majority so we'll have to see. There's a LibDem, Green and Reform standing too, but they seem to be weak candidates in comparison. I doubt these details will be too outing!

Relatives in another constituency will probably go LibDem for tactical reasons only (LibDems were a not too distant second last election). My theory, for them and for anyone on this thread who will be doing the same, is that there is no way LibDems will get a majority, so every Tory seat they poach is still an advantage to Labour. If they end up being the official opposition so much the better in my view.

There there, little Rishi, don't fret. Go and count your money, it always makes you feel better.

Heh, voting for an MP to represent your area, that's radical! Of course it's what it should always be about, but these are strange times.

I don't know yet

Possible spoiled ballot.

I don't think my MP will lose their seat anyway

I'm spoiling my ballot too.

Sunak doesn't have a clue about us mere mortals. This is a hobby for him. He's already enrolled his children into school in California for next term.

Is the school thing a fact or is it the product of speculation?

Want to vote Labour, but tactically voting Plaid here will keep out the Tories.. dilemma!

willowtolive · 11/06/2024 19:50

Would be labour if they stood a chance where I am (Cornwall) so will be tactically Lib Dem

Talked to two people lately both Tory members one middle aged man earning £200k other 84 year old pensioner both life long tories both going to vote reform . It’s going to be closer than we think .

Between who ?

SquirrelHash · 11/06/2024 19:57

Reform. Joined the party before Nigel got involved, but it hasn't put me off, because they'd be lucky to win a seat. They might win Clacton I suppose.

Can't vote Tory as they aren't, and they've done just about nothing they said they would and fucked around with stuff they shouldn't.

Can't vote Labour. To many crap ideas and bad soundbites and things that don't add up.

Can't vote Lib Dem due to their candidate in my constituency who was practically stalking me and I've had to block on social media. I've got footage of him in my front lawn saying " can't hide from me" <<shudder>>

Reform won't get in, it's like saying I can't fathom the rest and migration is an issue. They need to secure the border. I'm an immigrant who came here legally. My country did it. So can we. The tories failed. Voting reform is telling the other parties they need to make radical changes in the next 5 years to make voting for them viable.

And if they don't, then I've kind of proved my own suspicions about why not to vote for them in this election.

@Anniegetyourgun added too.

It is widely reported. Private Eye had an article and some of the US press too (although England barely makes the back page over there).

I don't think it's only that he thinks he'll lose, although that is it in the main. It's also that if he wins, there will be a leadership challenge, so either way, his time is up.

@Romeiswheretheheartis I honestly have no idea. My DH has told me before, but I've forgotten. I would like to be more clued up, but it's all a bit of a maze and I've other things to do than bone up on politics

Not too busy to click and comment on a thread you have no interest in though ?

I feel sorry for people who are voting for Labour in the hope that things will get better. There is no money and spending money like a drunken sailor is their whole raison detre. I suppose they could be slightly more competent than the tories (wouldn't be hard). I think there are many shy Reform voters who don't admit their vote because of abuse they'll get as evidenced by this thread. SDP for me not sure if they're standing in my area though.

Nanny0gg · 11/06/2024 20:17

NCNC10000009 · 10/06/2024 21:07

@ilovesooty really ? You're most likely not interested in the things I am, so why is it odd I'm not interested in things that you/others are eg politics & voting.

My vote is not going to make any difference - yes I know if we all thought that blah blah blah.

Because these things are important! They affect every part of your life

I can't believe how anyone in this day and age can be so unaware!

willowtolive · 11/06/2024 20:17

Either green or labour.

I'm slightly confused as to which is more likely to oust the tories in my area. In 2019 in my ward the green party came closest to the conservatives, but when I search my postcode it says that the labour party has the best chance of getting the tories out in my constituency. Can anyone help me understand this?
