General election 2024

Women voting for Labour?

bearsbritches · 04/06/2024 09:40

To wonder why women would be voting for Labour when they support trans rights over women's rights? I am concerned we are going to descend even further into all of this 'woke' madness and it is women who bear the brunt.

Starmer has back peddled on the self ID policy all of a sudden before the election, shock, but we can't trust that.

I certainly won't be voting for the Tories and can't bring myself to vote Labour for many reasons. Where does that leave disillusioned voters?

Well, you could spoil your ballot if you feel that strongly.

Personally, Labour have enough (note, not all) policies and history that align with my beliefs to get my vote.

If leaves you whinging on MN, OP. Very productive.

SocksAndTheCity · 04/06/2024 13:10

'Woke' doesn't mean what you think it means.

It's called having an open dialogue, but you stick with making pointless comments on MN. Very productive.

You don't know what I think it means. What do you think it means?

There are an awful lot of these kinds of posts lately. Russian bots?

Rosaluxemberg · 04/06/2024 13:15

Fgs, so many more issues to worry about first. This needs moving to the GE board.

I support equal rights. Allowing self identifying 'women' into women's safe spaces erodes our rights as biological women.

Could be something to do with an upcoming election.....

I won't be voting Labour for this reason OP and I was an LP member

GrammarTeacher · 04/06/2024 13:17

How? Simple. We believe trans women are women and don't agree with you.
Of some people think there are far more pressing problems facing the country.
only 1% of people polled thought this was the most important issue.

Rosaluxemberg · 04/06/2024 13:18

@jeaux90 wow. So brave. Are you happy with the state of the country or privileged enough to be a single issue voter ?

WittyMcAdder · 04/06/2024 13:18

Yes I am.

I worry about safety (for all!) in how we navigate sex-differentiated services etc. I also roll my eyes when I hear what is (to me) the plain daftness of language such as 'people with penises' etc. So I'm not oblivious to it all and wish Labour were clearer/stronger on it. But it's also not that big a deal to me, personally.

Labour are also not the lying, thieving, grifting lot that currently have the power and are the best shot at removed them - so they'll have my vote.

ilovesooty · 04/06/2024 13:19

Please yourself who you vote for and why. I'll do the same and I'm really not interested in what you think of my choice.

I agree there are other pressing issues, this is just one topic in particular that I find curious for women to being supporting. You might 'believe' they are women but the facts remain they are not.

I agree @GrammarTeacher i think the mn bubble makes people believe that this is a more important issue to voters than it is IRL. Before you jump on me op I’m not saying it isn’t an important issue, it’s just not the main reason why 99% of the population will choose to vote as they do.

FYI I will be voting Labour because I believe that their policies are most likely to benefit the greatest amount of people, including and especially, women.

Hope that helps op

Whenwillitgetwarm · 04/06/2024 13:21

Hi Kemi Badenoch, you need a stronger comms person. When they announced your latest statement on ‘woke’ and trans, I sensed a collective eye rolling. Tell your team to come up with new stuff that actually helps people and we’ll take you seriously.

Tory HQ, you need a better social media team. This lot are shit and repetitive.

No, I mean they're all anti-labour, obsessing about the "trans issue", which the vast majority of people in real life don't consider a defining factor of this election. I find it hard to believe that the only people on Mumsnet who care about politics all share that same belief.

51% of those sensible humans will be female BangTidys and this single policy issue IS therefore going to affect their rights as biological females.

I fully support the rights of trans people too but not if they hinder the rights of females to safety, dignity and fairness.

Op, there's no party to vote for..politically homeless.

BitchesBeSniffin · 04/06/2024 13:23

I think some people forget that not everyone feels the same way about trans rights vs women’s rights.

And even if I didn’t feel very strongly about the importance of trans (and everyone’s) rights, I wouldn’t vote based on this single issue.

As much as I wish it wasn’t the case, there are only two parties that have any chance of getting in at this election, and I don’t want it to be the Tories.

I'm not a single issue voter, the fact you assumed this makes you small minded. Yawn.
