Women voting for Labour?

bearsbritches · 04/06/2024 09:40

To wonder why women would be voting for Labour when they support trans rights over women's rights? I am concerned we are going to descend even further into all of this 'woke' madness and it is women who bear the brunt.

Starmer has back peddled on the self ID policy all of a sudden before the election, shock, but we can't trust that.

I certainly won't be voting for the Tories and can't bring myself to vote Labour for many reasons. Where does that leave disillusioned voters?

No, but I believe that women deserve their privacy. Don’t you think it’s odd that it’s only trans-women that want to go into the women’s changing rooms? You don’t hear anything about trans men going into the men’s changing rooms.

To me, that just screams out that these men, who haven’t had the full surgery, are doing it for a kick and it’s weird quite frankly.

No idea why naked bodies are frightening ...

But thats not the point. Why would anyone need to see a naked body. You are in a cubicle?

It's not the naked body that is frightening, it is the potential intentions behind that naked body that causes concern. There have been multiple cases of transwomen waltzing around changing rooms with their dicks swinging.

@LadyWhistledownMarkTwo trans men do go into male changing rooms. Where else would they go ?

Can I ask, OP, do you actually have any lived experience of trans rights impinging on your own? I don't myself. Seeing as I don't plan on going to prison any time soon, and if I end up in hospital I'd be more concerned about dying in a corridor than who else is on my ward, I genuinely can't foresee a situation where the issue would have any impact on me at all, actually.

Widening social divisions, crumbling health care, social services and schools, unaffordable child care , unaffordable food, unaffordable housing however do all affect me....

This is fair enough if you only vote on issues that directly affect you.
I also don't plan on going to prison but I feel for any women who are there and having to share close quarters with violent trans women.
I am unlikely to represent the country at an elite sport but I feel for any women who miss the chance because of a trans woman.

That said, the things that do affect you (thankfully, they don't all affect me) are a more pressing concern of mine in this election and I therefore will vote however I need to, to remove the Tories from power.

They’ve got XY chromosomes, they should go to the men’s. If not, go home.

I agree @GrammarTeacher i think the mn bubble makes people believe that this is a more important issue to voters than it is IRL. Before you jump on me op I’m not saying it isn’t an important issue, it’s just not the main reason why 99% of the population will choose to vote as they do.

FYI I will be voting Labour because I believe that their policies are most likely to benefit the greatest amount of people, including and especially, women.

Hope that helps op

I agree with this. I live in a red wall area and I don't believe this is even on the radar of most people, let alone a vote winner or loser.
The MN bubble is indeed a thing

@EarthlyNightshade are you bothered about conditions in female prisons ? Are you bothered about the way the criminal justice system treats women. The ridiculously low rate of convictions in rape cases ? The lack of legal aid for women ?
How many trans women are actually sharing a cell with a biological woman at the moment ? If there are any, surely that’s a Tory issue ?

Dicks scare me.
I don't want to be in a vulnerable space alone, where I can see dicks.

Do you think that male and female spaces should all be shared?

Of course I am. I am not sure why you would think that I wasn't.

I think there are many other areas to consider when voting for a party that is concerned with women's rights. I personally have much greater interest in what their policies are on childcare, nursery funding, maternity pay, women's health, women in the workplace and violence against women. Them supporting trans rights is not relevant to my life in any way to be honest and I dont feel it detracts from my own gender - and I feel that Labour are more supportive towards all marginalised parties including women over Conservatives.

I'm interested to see what they're going to be offering but I wouldn't not vote for them if they're going to be in a better stance for issues that are relevant to my every day life..

Surely the proportion of people in this very specific position of being in prison, sharing with a violent trans person, is extremely tiny vs the other issues that affect women all over the country?? Seems bizarre to vote only for a very specific and removed set of circumstances relating to trans people tbh...

LittleLegsKeepGoing · 04/06/2024 15:04

My local MP is labour, believes women can have penises and is happy for green spaces to be destroyed as long as the right people have brown envelopes stuffed with cash.

On those two issues I judge her and refuse to vote for her. This isn't a party issue, this is an issue about who I trust to represent what's important to me in Parliament.

We're a Labour/Tory swing seat so I understand how problematic my refusal to vote for her is, but I still won't do it.

At the moment I'm looking at the actions and statements being made by the other local candidates. If there's anyone who is worth voting for I'll give my vote to them. If not, I'll spoil my ballot.

Gemmahearts94 · 04/06/2024 15:04

bearsbritches · 04/06/2024 14:30

No. But they might scare small girls who shouldn't be subjected to an adult penis in a changing room. It's outright paedophilic.

Edited

My grandad used to take me swimming and the only option was a men's open changing room. There was men everywhere with there willies out.. was I scared. No? I was a child, I was with my grandad for a start and why would I be scared of a penis? I not scarred by it. I was just excited to get into the pool. I think people assume every man's a peado, it's so strange.

ASimpleLampoon · 04/06/2024 15:06

Why are you not voting Conservative? They do not support Trans.

Or Reform? Seem very anti trans to me, are they not?

Shortfatsuit · 04/06/2024 15:06

I am glad that I read all of the OP's posts before responding. I was going to type out a proper answer, but now that I've seen that she is planning to vote Reform, I won't bother.

There really isn't any point in trying to engage in reasoned critical debate with Reform supporters.

On the plus side, the idiots voting for Reform will split the right wing vote, which is all positive as far as I'm concerned.

CharlotteB94 · 04/06/2024 15:08

I honestly don't get why people get so angry and foaming at the mouth about trans people! There are so many more important issues. It baffles me tbh.

5128gap · 04/06/2024 15:13

I will vote labour because while far from perfect, they are overall the best fit with my values and ethics of all available options. I have concerns about the conflict between trans rights and women's rights, but don't believe that when it comes down to it Labour will do something that alienates huge numbers of the electorate to appease a tiny minority. I feel the tide is turning and suspect it won't be too long before all the noise around trans issues fades away (I see it happening in my 'progressive' sector already) and common sense returns. When this happens I don't want to be stuck with a Tory government and feel I've thrown my vote away trying to halt something I genuinely feel is running out of steam already.

If ever there is an issue like this where I think, "could intelligent people solve this with access to sufficient resources?" - the answer is always yes.

Then remember to vote for the best party for equal redistribution of wealth.

Clue: not the Tories.

The moral superiority of this post is breathtaking.
You stick to your echo chamber - then wonder why Reform will get a toe hold in the election.
But least you don't have to (shudder) engage with one of those people.
How clever you must think you are.
