General election 2024

Women voting for Labour?

bearsbritches · 04/06/2024 09:40

To wonder why women would be voting for Labour when they support trans rights over women's rights? I am concerned we are going to descend even further into all of this 'woke' madness and it is women who bear the brunt.

Starmer has back peddled on the self ID policy all of a sudden before the election, shock, but we can't trust that.

I certainly won't be voting for the Tories and can't bring myself to vote Labour for many reasons. Where does that leave disillusioned voters?

Who said you should be.

Well why did you post then?

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 04/06/2024 13:23

I do understand voting based on a single issue. I have, since 2014, voted on a single issue - I'm Scottish so for the last 10 years the constitution has been the single deciding factor on my vote. But now that the the threat of independence has receded I am able to vote based on my politics and who I think would form the best government.

I am gender critical but its one issue and not the deciding factor for me.

So I understand where you are coming from but I don't share your view on this being the thing that determines on how I should vote.

I will be voting Labour

countrygirl99 · 04/06/2024 13:24

I'll vote Labour because I'm not a single issue voter and there us no way I'd vote for this current batch of Tories on a huge danger of issues most of which have a bigger day to day impact on women.

Hi Kemi Badenoch, you need a stronger comms person. When they announced your latest statement on ‘woke’ and trans, I sensed a collective eye rolling. Tell your team to come up with new stuff that actually helps people and we’ll take you seriously.

Tory HQ, you need a better social media team. This lot are shit and repetitive.

What the what 😂

51% of those sensible humans will be female BangTidys and this single policy issue IS therefore going to affect their rights as biological females.

I fully support the rights of trans people too but not if they hinder the rights of females to safety, dignity and fairness.

Op, there's no party to vote for..politically homeless.

Do you genuinely think the Tories have done much for women over the past 12 years? They're desperately trying to make this (non) factor the reason women vote for them, hoping that they ignore the fact that millions of women and children have been plunged into poverty, ill health and poor education thanks to their policies over the last decade.

Who else is there to vote for at this point? As in, which other party is great for women and has any shot at getting into power?

Earwiggoearwiggoearwiggo · 04/06/2024 13:26

Can I ask, OP, do you actually have any lived experience of trans rights impinging on your own? I don't myself. Seeing as I don't plan on going to prison any time soon, and if I end up in hospital I'd be more concerned about dying in a corridor than who else is on my ward, I genuinely can't foresee a situation where the issue would have any impact on me at all, actually.

Widening social divisions, crumbling health care, social services and schools, unaffordable child care , unaffordable food, unaffordable housing however do all affect me....

I am gender critical but will be voting Labour

the issues around women’s safety are ongoing and women will continue to fight to preserve their single sex spaces - the Tory party have had 14 years to address it and done nothing but deliver sound bites on ‘what a woman is’

under this Gov more women have been thrown into poverty- families are struggling, benefits capped at 2 children, increased zero hours contracts, sanctions on UC, COL increases- they are no friends of women! Or any other minority group

I won't be voting Labour for this, plus many other, reasons op. When they advocate for a Hierarchy of Rights, with Trans being above all else, and don't you dare speak out about it or else, that's extremely concerning when it's put above the safety of women and girls. A fascist government like that is a frightening thing to have in power.

You're probably right... I would have thought they'd have a less painfully obvious social media strategy but judging from the absolute shitshow of the past decade, I don't know why I would assume competence.

There are way way WAY more pertinent and urgent issues than this, OP. It's unreasonable to think the general population on mass will give any priority to this. Why on earth would they when people can't pay their bills, can't feed their children, can't get into work, and are in debilitating pain or danger due to NHS waiting times.

So because someone has a different view to you, that automatically makes them a government spy, because you couldn't possibly comprehend the idea of a different opinion unless it is from someone with skin in the game. That's called living in an echo chamber.

@PollyPeep I agree. Most threads are anti labour in origin. None criticising the government’s record. There’s a Gender ID one every other day but no one gives a damn about rising poverty and inequality. Weird that.

I agree @GrammarTeacher i think the mn bubble makes people believe that this is a more important issue to voters than it is IRL. Before you jump on me op I’m not saying it isn’t an important issue, it’s just not the main reason why 99% of the population will choose to vote as they do.

FYI I will be voting Labour because I believe that their policies are most likely to benefit the greatest amount of people, including and especially, women.

Hope that helps op

This.

I’ll vote for whoever will stop this exact post being repeated ad infinitum along with the regurgitating of the ones regarding the threat of VAT being added to public school fees.

Votes are between the voter and the ballot box.
