Do you feel there will be an increase in illegal immigrants with a Labour government

What is Labour's plan to stop the boat people? How will this stop those who want to come to England via channel crossings illegally??

What in your opinion is encouraging the boat/channel crossing illeagle immigrants to want to come to England even though they are already is a very safe and generous nation?

IMO, most that come to England now, the vast majority are young men looking for a better financial future. My opinion is based on the basis that if I was in a war-torn country and wanted to escape persecution etc. I would leave the country WITH MY FAMILY and would be grateful once in a safe country and not risk our helth/lift etc crossing the channel in small dingys.

So, do you feel that potential illegal immigrants are just hoping that Labour gets into power as they are seen as a softer touch??

We. ie my parents and siblings came to England in the early 60's from Asia via legal routes as England need workers - parents rented a room and built up their wealth from there.

FYI: If you go abroad, lets say to China/India/Newzealand/etc for a hols, fall in love with someone and want to marry them - just check out the criteria that you have to meet to sponsor a visa and then the massive costs for them to come over and then become a Brtish cotozen after 5 years of good standing - the person coming over is entitled to nothing other than access to NHS and this is allowed as the person/s coming over undergo strict medical tests - therefore very unfair on those wanting to come to England via legal routes

England needs skilled and unskilled workers and those who are coming over legally go through many tests before being allowed here and massive costs. It is very unfair to allow the boat people etc to settle in England when they have already entered a safe nation IMO

IMO, we created the stife in Afhghransatan, Libya, Syria and Iraq along with our boss the good old USA

People, and families do not help in war-torn nations and the very poor nations - most that come over illegally from the poorer, very poorer parts of the world pay thousands to gangs etc - Therefore, these people are not the real poor people who may be earning 50p a day for backbreaking work

I'm all for immigration - we too had considered the USA and Portugal but stayed in the UK. I welcome those who want to come to our country but in my judgement, these people must be scrended just like those people who come to Englland via legal routes

As PP have said, there is far more legal immigration than illegal. Frankly the country can't manage without it either unless there is considerable structural reform to housing, wages etc.

MissyB1 · 24/05/2024 19:51

Honestly I'm embarrassed for you OP, stop believing such bullshit.

aplthtoa · 24/05/2024 19:51

"the boat people" fucking dehumanising.

AutumnCrow · 24/05/2024 19:53

MyGreenFinch · 24/05/2024 19:49

Oh come on, “illeagle” is a great word 😂

‘Fly like illeagle’ 🎶

HowardTJMoon · 24/05/2024 19:53

You do know that it's not against the law to come to the UK and claim asylum, right? I mean, you do have that basic grasp of international law, right?

IClaudine · 24/05/2024 19:54

Oh god, not another of these threads by DSC.

No. I don't. And the people arriving by boat ARE NOT ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.

ASighMadeOfStone · 24/05/2024 19:55

Justcats · 24/05/2024 19:43

No, but there will definitely be an increase in threads from this OP.

Is that even possible? Even more? Surely there aren't enough hours in the day? He'd need a time-turner.

TeamPolin · 24/05/2024 19:56

In a word, no.

No amount of ridiculous scaremongering on forums and social media will stop me voting Labour in July. The Tories have had 14 years and have royally fucked the country over in that time. They absolutely do not deserve another chance.

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 24/05/2024 19:57

Illegal immigration doesn't bother me, it is a drop in the ocean.

Legal migration, more specifically the unprecedented levels over the last few years, is what is causing the rising social cohesion and infrastructure problems. Over 700000 per year net migration is unsustainable.

The houses can never be built to keep up with demand.

The threshold for earnings needs to be drastically increased and the number of dependants allowed very reduced.

I have no faith that Labour will stop this. I have no faith that the Conservatives will stop this. All political parties seem to have agreed that this short sighted scheme is the solution to falling birth rates and the desperate need for the economy to grow, grow, grow.

Instead of improving UK people's lives so they feel able to have more children, they will just keep importing a labour force that will accept the low wages, decline in living and social conditions, because it is better than what they had at home.

It may not "bother you" however - its gives a chance for this misfits of the right wing take advantage of this situation

Just look back 12 months. The right wing reared its head big-style - they were almost dead and buried

Importantly, it is very unfair as I already said on those coming here via legal means

If nothing is done the situation will get worse

I blame the government for coming up with a stupid plan that stood no chance making false promises and all of this in the media headlines on an almost daily basis at times and in turn, inciting the hate mobs to rare their heads against 'immigration.'

As I said, my parents are from Asia so I am not 'white/English' - what I have noted since this 'Rawanda" fisaco stories in the media because of the govs incompetence is - I have noted and felt more vulnerable, a bit like I did in the 70's and 80's rightly or wrongly but is how I felt

You are tight it is a "small number" but the stories of free accommodation, losing those we are supposed to keep track of does make the headlines and the right wing and outside agitators that hate England get their chance to further stir what is already happening

For the record I blame the failure of the Tory government and their good idea where they had no balls to see it through - ie the Rawanda plan

Really? You'd bring your whole family over to live as illegal immigrants? So no health care or schooling for them.

Do ypu actually know what an illegal immigrant is ?

IClaudine · 24/05/2024 19:58

I don't know about a cap on immigration, but a cap on the number of threads certain posters can start would be welcome.

Seaitoverthere · 24/05/2024 19:59

No I don’t.

However what would be good if there was a way to convert the eye rolling that so many of us are going to be doing reading threads like this over the coming weeks and convert it into energy so some good could come out of them. Sadly there isn’t.

user1471453601 · 24/05/2024 20:00

The Tory party, or its bots, are out in force tonight.

If only one of them could make a coherent arguments for a Tory government.

Still, they are giving me a laugh.

TheFunHasGone · 24/05/2024 20:00

Oh and do you really think asylum seekers and illegal immigrants can afford to pay for their families to all be smuggled in/get on a boat

IClaudine · 24/05/2024 20:00

This. Most people have already decided how to vote. Spamming MN won't change minds.

ASighMadeOfStone · 24/05/2024 19:55

Perhaps MN will give him his own board?

Yes

A very expensive drop in the ocean that is costing millions a day to accommodate, feed etc., so yes, something to worry about!

BIWI · 24/05/2024 20:04

Well, evidence if ever we needed it, that more education is required in critical thinking as well as spelling and grammar.

FFS. Hmm

Ponderingwindow · 24/05/2024 20:06

If you are concerned about illegal immigration, then you don’t need to target the immigrants. You need to support higher penalties for employers who hire people without proper work visas. Not fines so trivial that they can be considered just the cost of doing business. Not consequences for low level staffers who are desperate to keep their jobs and just following orders. Real, criminal consequences for company executives.

Hdkatznahtw125sgh · 24/05/2024 20:06

And do you feel the current government and government of the past 14 years has met your expectations in terms of ‘illegal’ immigration?

Why don’t you vote for reform UK love, they sound like the natural home for you. If you’re in a Tory stronghold constituency I actually really encourage you to. That’ll show them.

Embarrassing to share a country with people who hold views like yourself.

emmetgirl · 24/05/2024 20:06

Here we go again.....

VeryQuaintIrene · 24/05/2024 20:08

What is up with all these absurd threads today? It's going to be a long 6 weeks.

ASighMadeOfStone · 24/05/2024 20:08

Justcats · 24/05/2024 20:02

Perhaps MN will give him his own board?

I wish. Then we could hide all it instead of spending too many hours a week wondering how someone can spell England perfectly correctly one minute and then sherry time hits and it's all just random aiming wildly for the keyboard hoping somehow a proper word will appear.
There's a PhD study in there somewhere. I'm sure he'd be flattered though, so perhaps not.

itsgettingweird · 24/05/2024 20:09

The men make the journey because it's dangerous.

They risk their lives on those boats.

You don't do that just for a few extra £££s in your pocket.

Labour won't just allow asylum seekers death by channel drowning by encouraging it. Your long post suggests you are literate so why not read what they've said? Plenty out there on Starmers plans.

What he isn't doing though is a) misspelling asylum seekers as illegal immigrants and b) suggesting a deterrent for asylum seekers to flee war by punishing them to stop the people capitalising on their plight.
