Sunk has announced the Rwanda plan is dead. Millions wasted on a xenophobic gimmick. One upside is that Braverman's dreams are crushed.

Edited

That’s inaccurate.
Sunak has not said the Rwanda policy is dead.

He has said flights will go in July.

Obviously as Labour have said they will ditch the policy then it’s assumed flights will not leave in July if Labour get in.

Sunk has said there will be no flights before a GE.

Labour will scrap the Rwanda scheme.

So by default Sunk has announced the Rwanda scheme is no more.

Well no.
Part of The Conservatives policy on immigration is the Rwanda plan.
They haven’t dropped their policy.
The policy stands with them unless they say they’ve dropped it. They haven’t.

Labour will not adopt the Conservatives Rwanda policy.

Two parties, two different policies. Irrespective of whose running the country.

They haven't dropped the policy but they may as well do, 'cause it is never going to be put into operation!

I do admit I was being a bit mischievous to say that Sunk had announced the Rwanda plan was over. He will still make it a mainstay of his election campaign though, as he has very little else.

Janiie · 23/05/2024 13:03

'do admit I was being a bit mischievous to say that Sunk had announced the Rwanda plan was over'

'Sunk' lol! All the outrage I got on other threads for saying Keith and Ange. Apparently pisstaking is not allowed, your comrades will be most disappointed in this childish behaviour Grin.

Which is why I felt it OK to point out he didn’t actually say the plan was dead.

It’s just a fact and I prefer facts.

Livelovebehappy · 23/05/2024 13:15

IClaudine · 23/05/2024 12:16

Oh, were there millions of people coming over in small boats before the now defunct Rwanda scheme was cooked up?

Must have missed that

I think the people smugglers will be rubbing their hands with glee. Lets be honest, Labour will do nothing to stem them, so surely it will result in an increase. In fact, the people smugglers will probably charter a few cruise ships to bring them over such will be labours indifference....

To be fair, as the NI courts have scuppered Rwanda, there is now limited capacity in Rwanda plus they have their own migrant crisis with the war in the CAR, Rwanda was never going to happen & Sunak nows it.

Hence the GE in early July.

As a former Border Force boss said, Uk needs international returns agreements and more Police co-operation, the numbers possibly sent to Rwanda would be less than 1% of total x channel arrivals.

Ironic name you have there. You don’t seem to be particularly full of love or happiness or letting others live their lives.

Good thing you're not a Tory politician!

Looks like Labour will be in. I’m dreading what they will do for women’s rights.

What exactly are you worried about? And how could they be worse than the last 14 years?

MushMonster · 23/05/2024 18:26

There is no way anything, including women spaces, can get any worse. The only way is up from here.
I cannot wait for the 4th July!

ErinBell01 · 23/05/2024 19:12

Labour doesn't even know what a woman is! If they get in they'll bring in self ID and we'll all be screwed. Many of their MPs think that women have pen*ses, and David Lammy believes that men can grow a cervix! If you can't define a woman then you can't protect their rights or even begin to have equality with men.

GoldEagle · 23/05/2024 19:27

Standingupstandingout · 22/05/2024 16:38

It's not like the Tories care about rights for woman, men or child.

At least the Tories know what a woman is, Starmer doesn't, Lammy thinks men who have their cocks turned inside out grow a cervix, Creasey thinks women can have a penis and last but not least Anneliese Dodds is considering giving GPs the power to issue Gender Recognition Certificates, a perverts free for all. You would think the woman had never heard of safeguarding.

BlackEyesLikeADollsEyes · 22/05/2024 16:32

Oh yeah - if this is right, I'll be taking the next day off work so I can stay up all night watching the downfall.

If there is no downfall, I'll be using the next day to cheer myself up.

I’ve been planning to stay up for this one. Sunak’s managed to cock this aspect of his premiership up as well though, because the 5th is an inset day for us. I’ll have my 6 year old at home 😞.

Notsurewhatiswhat · 23/05/2024 20:09

Very comforting to see the amount of people wanting the Tories out. Given what they have done over the last 14 years I am hoping that this election will be the biggest whitewash ever. In an ideal world they’ll keep 2 seats and become irrelevant. It would be nice if one of those was Rishi…..where have all your friends gone Rishi? Making use of those cheap flights to Rwanda?

eastegg · 23/05/2024 20:48

BlackEyesLikeADollsEyes · 23/05/2024 09:18

Danny Kruger (Cons MP) on ITV:

"We've been in power for a long time and I recognise people feel like it's time for change. Actually we represent the change that's needed, Labour represent more of the same. They might have different faces but they would be the ones carrying on the failed British state which has caused so many problems for this country"

You couldn't make it up. Vote for us , not these different guys who will do more of our failures, whereas we won't. We'll be different. We'll change.

Grin

It’s almost unbelievable isn’t it. Sunak’s comments today about the Rwanda flights were similar.

‘You didn’t want to wait until after the flights had got going, to show your policy is working, before having an election, Mr PM?’

’No, I didn’t, but we promise the flights will start right after the election…’

😂😂😂😂

It’s been his flagship policy, according to him July will vindicate him on it, but he ain’t waiting…

Do they think we’re actually thick or something? We’re being Johnsoned all over again.

Owl55 · 23/05/2024 21:08

Do you think they’ll compensate these groups before they go or leave it to Labour and run🤢
The Waspi Women
The Post Office People
The Haemophiliac Families
mot are they getting out because they know the Covid enquiry has some very bad news on it’s way to discredit them?🤔

Dodgybarber · 23/05/2024 21:17

Livelovebehappy · 23/05/2024 10:15

Ah yes. Let them all continuevto come in on their boats unchecked. Great idea. Our housing, NHS and education will benefit sooo much from a few million unskilled people coming in....

You do realise that this utter nonsense. Daily Fail scare tactics. The French government has repeatedly offered to build FOR FREE a refugee processing centre in France and will allow UK Border Control officials to man it. The UK refuses because the Conservatives/Brexit Party
want and need the small boat crisis and subsequent Rwanda dog whistle crap

noosmummy12 · 23/05/2024 21:20

Anyone think it’s a bit weird? Sunak said he would not be a war prime minister, but also said GE would be autumn-time, and yesterday Sky News said the Conservatives think everyone should have at least 3 days worth of food and water in their homes along with torches and batteries etc. Am I reading too much into this??

Dodgybarber · 23/05/2024 21:27

And for the other but, but, but Labour can't define a woman quoters....
"Just a little reminder that Government have spent more money on the failed Rwanda scheme than it did on domestic abuse refuges for women and children." quote is from Jess Phillips MP , someone who actually really does give a shit about women. I will happily take her fighting for women's rights in government than any Tory liar.

mamaandbabas · 23/05/2024 21:49

Bye bye Tories. It will be very interesting to see how the political landscape changes here in Scotland.
