??

Well @HoneyButterPopcorn Starmers refused to tell us where we might be safe until he’s in power.
We ll bow to his authority then and doff our bonnets and wait, all hail

One things for sure though, he still thinks women have penises 🤯🤣😳

Papyrophile · 24/05/2024 17:59

@eastegg Grateful you bothered to carp at my tone. The criminal convictions have been quashed which is the right thing to do, and the victims compensated. Of course, it should not have been allowed to happen, but it went on through both Labour and Tory administrations and nobody associated with the Post Office, or the regulators or the bankers or Fujitsu comes out smelling of roses. Your comment is simply nit picking.

Independence Day!!…… are they taking the P 😂😂😂

Thank you but I'm not sure why you keep telling me it isn't a Labour policy, I never mentioned whose policy it was, just merely that it was something (else) the Tories have failed to deliver amongst all their other disastrous and other cruel policies. A return to Labour might be slow and painful to start but the clean up is huge, literally mountains of shit to wade through.

And so it begins. Same after Thatcher went. Labour will have a free pass by many for the first 10 years (if they’re in power that long). Everything that’s shitty will be due to what the Tories left behind. From the minute they’re in power, they should implement the changes they are promising. If they don’t, it’s on them.

Very comforting to see the amount of people wanting the Tories out. Given what they have done over the last 14 years I am hoping that this election will be the biggest whitewash ever. In an ideal world they’ll keep 2 seats and become irrelevant. It would be nice if one of those was Rishi…..where have all your friends gone Rishi? Making use of those cheap flights to Rwanda?

Tbh, you’re using mumsnet as a measuring stick. You do know the majority of netters lean to the left? You will always find a lot of people on here championing Labour, but it’s not as one sided in the real world…..

I can't remember which election it was but MN was expecting a Labour majority but it was the Tories that got it and all hell broke loose on here, how it was a fix and couldn't possibly be right, it went on for days.

I’m in the real world though.

I know no one who votes Tory. None.

I assume I know loads, as my home county is very blue. I tend not to ask though as it's none of my business!

Virtually everyone I know who is over 30 votes Tory. Most of them with clothes pegs on their noses at the stench of the pigs in the trough. Despite this particular administration, who to be fair, have faced an appallingly diffficult confluence of events since taking power, especially since the Brexit referendum and COVID (and before we all forget this, it was Labour constituencies who mainly voted out, to protect their personal earning power-- the Red Wall shift).

David Cameron campaigned endlessly to Remain;, as did Gordon Blair and Nick Clegg. Corbyn sniped, but wasn't ever even briefly a fan of Europe and stayed as far from the vote as possible. And the final vote count was by a margin of 4%, I tend to think that Cameron should have treated it as advisory and gone back to the EU saying that as the UK, then the EU's second largest source of funding, was wobbling on its commitment, could we not revisit the migration rules. Very sadly, both the EU and UK hardened stances after the vote. So we ended with the ERG's wet dream. I hate hardliners.

I know, just appreciate that MN is balancing out the Daily Mail brigade.

I find it impossible to understand in 2024 how anyone could consider voting Tory. It seems incredible to me that they would get any seats! This election isn’t even about a choice surely, it’s about getting rid of this Government ?!

TheOneWithUnagi · 24/05/2024 22:33

I used to vote Tory. I'm definitely economically conservative and I'm fully in the one nation camp, but I couldn't ever get behind this lot - Braverman wanting to outlaw homelessness and the jingoistic Rwanda plan which is a complete waste of time and money for instance. Generally the lot of them seem hateful and populist, and are pointing at foreigners and homeless people to blame instead of themselves for the complete lack of growth and decline in public services of the last 14 years. I agree they have had a bad hand in some sense, but look what they've done with it - their handling of covid and the parties was abhorrent. And brexit was all on them, to resolve their own political infighting.

I'm sure there are good Tories out there but remember that the grassroots also voted for and gave us Liz Truss.

I can't see myself ever voting Tory again and I'm probably historically one of their typical supporters in terms of our income, occupation location etc.

You’re talking to me as if I’m making an anti-Tory point. Not sure why you’re telling me the scandal went on during Labour and Tory administrations. The point I made was totally non-party political. Some recompense is rightly being given, but the scandal is not being corrected. Words matter and I don’t think it’s nitpicking but you are obviously free to disagree.

Papyrophile · 24/05/2024 22:48

Not really that bothered @eastegg. As long as the postmasters amd postmistresses are exonerated. Nothing and nobody can chamge history.

I believe you don't live a million miles from me, so when my ex military in-laws have stopped supporting the Tories, i know something has changed.

Labour have a decent female candidate for SE Cornwall and unlike our present Tory, doesn't seem to always have a glass of red in her hand.

Bojo was Brexits weapon, Remain had a very weak line up, but i do like the Gordon Blair comment!!!

FOM is fundamental to the EU, no one country can just expect to have an exception, we could have course of applied to have a temp halt but didn't.

May is hardly a hardliner, she triggered the whole debacle with her red lines and brexit means brexit.

But now, almost all the main Brexit politicians have quit, they got power and in Bojo's case got power and became super rich, so job done, fuck the UK.

Who ate your inlaws voting for instead of the tories though? I find most diehard previous tory voters would rather stick pins in their eyes than vote Labour. Would be interesting to know who they will vote for if turning away from tories. Or whether they will just abstain from voting for anyone.

sweetdreams33 · 26/05/2024 10:13

I know it all sounds as though its going to be a sure bet that Labour will get in, and if that's the case, then as bad as things seem now, it's gonna get a whole lot worse. Who am I gonna vote for. No idea. I'm gonna have to do some homework, and try to figure who I think is the best bet. No easy feat. What I do know is that we should not waste our vote. Was fought hard for on our behalf . So please don't waste it

Papyrophile · 26/05/2024 11:44

I'm waiting for the promising young Labour candidate's campaign leaflet and for her to pop round and do a spot of canvassing @Alexandra2001 . I quite liked the sound of her predecessor, but he didn't do a lot of door to door.

Papyrophile · 26/05/2024 11:46

^^ edited to correct the spelling of leaflet! It said leaklet before, which is a bit of a sore spot given local sewage issues.

Technically it’s about voting for the policies you agree with.
Who has the policies that will benefit individual people and the country as a whole.
