After all the damage they caused with their moronic string of leaders, it’s ironic that the Tories get kicked out when they have the most competent and likeable of their Five leaders at the helm. To be replaced by the robotic Starmer who you feel will say - and do - literally anything to gain and stay in power. After a decade and a half we finally have a non top ideological economically literate person at the helm - oh wait now, let’s switch for the economically illiterate populist!

Sunak has also changed his mind on a huge number of things, NI increases for Social Care, Net Zero, Nom Dom & tax rises.

Sunak also wasted 10s of billions on Covid support loans, continued with HS2 before cancelling it, another £36 billion gone.

A complete lie over 40 new hospitals, they've not built a single new one..... our local pre fab eye infirmary apparently counts as one of them....

Thats Sunaks economic competence.

Danny Kruger (Cons MP) on ITV:

"We've been in power for a long time and I recognise people feel like it's time for change. Actually we represent the change that's needed, Labour represent more of the same. They might have different faces but they would be the ones carrying on the failed British state which has caused so many problems for this country"

You couldn't make it up. Vote for us , not these different guys who will do more of our failures, whereas we won't. We'll be different. We'll change.

I will be studying Reforms policies. I couldnt vote for them in the locals as they didnt have a candidate in my area. I know they dont stand a chance on getting into power this time,, but i hope if enough people vote for them, we might see their gradual entry into mainstream politics going into the future. Labour will get in this time, but I think the public will get disenchanted with them very quickly. It's not a case of people voting for Labour's policies this time round, but more of let's get the tories out and anything would be better.

Sunk has announced the Rwanda plan is dead. Millions wasted on a xenophobic gimmick. One upside is that Braverman's dreams are crushed.

Westfacing · 23/05/2024 09:33

There's talk of letters going in to Graham Brady - surely this can't be true!

There were rumours about that last night. The Tories really have lost the plot now.

They'd never pull it off, but it would be fucking hilarious watching them try.

Well I hope they weren't hoping to install Farage(!) he's just said he'll be helping to get Trump elected instead. Grin

He's bottled out of standing for Reform, the party he owns!

With the losing streak he's been on, I can understand why he doesn't want to stand and to humiliate himself once again.

Maybe this is a reason for the summer election. If Reform are eating away at the Tory vote a surprise summer election gives Reform less time to get organised and steal votes.

WoshPank · 23/05/2024 10:07

I kind of think Reform could be given an infinite amount of time to get organised, and it still wouldn't be enough for them to have their shit together.

Surely he'll be having strong words with those thinking about this? Of all the times to do this, now isn't the one, if they even want half a hope of not facing electoral annihilation.

All this 'Labour are 20 points ahead, now is not the time' is stupid. It's been like that for ages. Waiting isn't going to help on that front!

(Labour have also lost an election with a similar lead previously too, but different times then!)

Ah yes. Let them all continuevto come in on their boats unchecked. Great idea. Our housing, NHS and education will benefit sooo much from a few million unskilled people coming in....

I kind of think people might be blindsided re the amount of votes Reform will get. I know many people who are going to put their 'X' in the Reform box come election day. Dont be too dismissive of just how much support they really have.

Graham Brady has probably mentally checked out by now.

He's not standing next time, he's got enough sense to know they're about to get absolutely destroyed whatever happens, and he's probably already focusing on whatever directorship or consultancy he's going to do next. If I were him I doubt I could dredge up enough fucks to have strong words with anyone at this point.

You maybe need to have a look at the actual facts and figures. There aren't millions of people coming to the UK in small boats.

My point there was actually about organisational ability rather than the number of votes they'll get.

That said, if we're on the subject, Reform aren't going to have any real impact even if they do manage to grab a high single figure percentage of votes, even squeak into the double figures. Because they don't have the geographical concentration of support. They could cost the Tories a few seats by splitting the vote, as the Brexit Party did last time, but in the face of this sort of annihilation it won't matter much.

Labour has never lost an election with a 20 point lead six weeks before polling day!

If you mean 1992, the polls were really tight at this point. Just a couple of points in it.

There will be if the Rwanda scheme is dropped, and there is no other contingency plan from Starmer. As far as i'm aware the only suggestion he has on the table is to chase the people smugglers down. Not confident that's going to work...

Oh, were there millions of people coming over in small boats before the now defunct Rwanda scheme was cooked up?

Must have missed that

Same! I worry for small businesses with labour, women’s rights ( the women’s sector haven’t done to bad with funding under tories)

I don’t think Labour will do much about homelessness tbh more so make things worse.

I do normally spoil my vote, but I feel like this time round isn’t what I should be doing, but what do I do !

Consider policies first, forget the party
If you are not sure.

look at each policy, without prejudice, decide what you agree with and what you disagree with.
What’s most important
Then look back at who is proposing the policies you favour and who is proposing those you don’t.

If you are unsure, it’s the only way.
