I am on my laptop atm.

Am slightly underwhelmed by the ipad tbh..but maybe it's because I haven't got any apps to use excite me.

So what's so fab and any good apps I should get?

iPads are fab, I love mine. Just go have a play in the app store to apps see what you can find. If you want games the angry birds and plants vs zombies are good

GnocchiNineDoors · 16/06/2012 15:52

The following games are good:
*draw something
*song pop
*sudoku
*angry birds
*100 floors

The following apps are good
*shopping list
*a newspaper one - daily mail is unfortunatley the best one even though I wouldnt buy the paper
*think theres a Mumsnet app

We love Pop the Frog 2. Many an hour has been wasted trying to beat each others scores. Perfect for all ages.

All the tv apps (TV Catchup, iplayer etc)
Kindle
Amazon
eBay
Angry Birds
Pages
My Fitness Pal
Games for the children
Scrabble
Sodoku

They're just what I can remember off hand. I love mine.

RedBlanket · 16/06/2012 16:31

No you're right they're rubbish.
Send it to me and I'll get rid of it for you.

angel1976 · 16/06/2012 16:42

Whatever you do, don't download Tiny Zoo. I am currently obsessed with building the biggest zoo in the world with lots of animals. It's the one thing I play first thing in the morning, dip into through the day and play last thing before I go to bed.

Say what you see (SWYS) is a great game.

PissyDust · 16/06/2012 16:48

Tap the frog is great.

Mumsnet app is rubbish so I MN through safari.

Have you had a go at morphing pictures yet?

Kaloobear · 16/06/2012 16:52

There's a beautiful app called something if Poetry...I think...anyway it's Helena B-C and another famous actor whose name escapes me at the mo reading poetry aloud. Gorgeous illustrations too. Lovely for children.

hermioneweasley · 16/06/2012 16:54

I'm like ever long, mine goes everywhere. I use it for surfing, social media, books, note taking, writing docs, and watch videos /listen to podcasts and music when travelling. I carry this one thing instead of notebook, reading books, iPod, DVD player etc.

wonkylegs · 16/06/2012 17:02

Well ours is mainly monopolised utilised by 4yo DS who loves kids games, watching telly (we've got an app which links it to our media pc & all the recorded telly & films on it), drawing, puzzles, practicing writing & phonics.
Tap the frog is really addictive
Watch 4OD, Iplayer, 5ondemand in bed with headphones on, when it's blustery outside and I want to be cozy.
Newspapers online, reading stuff online, showing granny photos, keeps family diary on.
Loads of stuff you don't NEED it for but it's good.

MaisyMooCow · 16/06/2012 17:02

I was a bit meh about them until my friend got one and I just had to have it.

So far I've only downloaded a few free apps I'm tight but some of the games are great. I love Tap the Frog, Cut the Rope, flight simulator and harbour master.

I love the organiser aspect too so use the calendar rather than a paper diary.

I also love being able to use if for tv iplayer and to download music, take photos and record videos.

You can also store stuff with iCloud so you don't fill the memory like you would a laptop.

AKissIsNotAContract · 16/06/2012 17:04

You must get Magic Piano. Everyone must get Magic Piano.

betterwhenthesunshines · 16/06/2012 17:11

DH uses it to read The Times on, and chess, and scrabble.

Other than that it's just games for the kids which are quite good fun and can get addictive; Where's My Water? Monster Flip some good Times Tables, Maths Bingo etc

Also iPlayer to catch up on comedy radio programmes in the bath

I would use it for web browsing but find copying info from web pages into documents quite tiresome. The calendar / contacts are good backed up from my home computer but because I haven't updated to Lion yet they don't sync seamlessly yet. Plus now I have my iphone so I use that for notes, reminders etc also great as it links with my kindle so I always have my books with me.

iPad is just a toy really.

AllYouNeedIsAClickyBallpoint · 16/06/2012 17:14

I love my iPad!
I have quickoffice, which cost a bit, but means I can write letters and file stuff.
I love bamboo paper, and use it as a diary, with the bonus that I can easily put photos on. I also use a bamboo paper notebook to collect recipes.
If you're fat, get the virtual gastric band app - it is truly amazing and life changing.
My iPad is like a best friend Blush

PoohBearsHole · 16/06/2012 17:31

Am so looking up some of these -

but am currently addicted to rat on a snowboard Blush tis a daft but somewhat amusing game. And iplayer - am going to see if Silk is worth watching for the delctable Wupert Penwry Jones.........

GnocchiNineDoors · 16/06/2012 18:10

Thanks for the thread, have now downloaded a ream of new games for my phone (no ipad yet)

PoppyWearer · 16/06/2012 18:12

Buy a smart card adapter and you can view photos on-the-move on a decent screen.

Buy child headphones and voila, you have an in-car entertainment system!

ggirl · 16/06/2012 18:23

Ok thanks will have a look at some of these apps. I'm not really a games person..do like a spelling bee though. Will also look for reading app for kids.

Ohyoubadbadkitten · 16/06/2012 18:28

I'm about to use mine for watching a movie I've downloaded from iTunes. I can plug it into my tv and voila, billions of movies to choose from.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/06/2012 18:39

I only really use ours at home, it's too heavy to carry about (ours is one of the first ones though). Kids use it for games and some educational apps, I only really use it for browsing the internet and email. I have an Iphone for out and about, I use that for a far greater variety of things, but I would probably use the Ipad more if I didn't have that. If it packed up tomorrow I probably wouldn't replace it TBH (if I did it would be because of the DCs).
