I am on my laptop atm.

Am slightly underwhelmed by the ipad tbh..but maybe it's because I haven't got any apps to use excite me.

So what's so fab and any good apps I should get?

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 18/06/2012 12:53

Thank you glastocat!

Does't need security as Macintosh system.

i brought my no tech hubby one for fathers day..... PFFFTTTT... he loves it... i was hoping he'd leave it for me to have....Wink but no... he's got a book downloaded... the newspaper app that he say's he never get's time to read.... I WANT ONE.....

MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 18/06/2012 13:40

Great thread. Have downloaded tap the frog and ice age village now!

I use mine for emails, mums net in bed, flipboard, Facebook, Internet shopping, eBay, as a kindle, to edit photos on snapseed, bbc iplayer, discovering new music (discovr music ap), reading the guardian and the Sunday times. DH has a subscription to BBC good food magazine on his. I also use it for receipes but just google them then copy into the notebook ap that came with it...wondering if I should go more hightech now...

My 18month old loves it. I havent shown him that it works as a tv but he has lots of interactive apps and he can switch between them himself. I second buying the full version of phoneforkids. Also soundtouch, little fox, and the free fisherprice laugh and learn apps.

AbsofAwesomeness · 18/06/2012 14:04

I have to be satisfied with using DH's, but it's great for surfing and not having to wait ages for pages to load etc. We also use it to watch tv shows and movies while travelling. You can download DVDs onto your PC/laptop, and then transfer it to the ipad. True story - we spent EIGHT hours watching videos etc. on a flight, and it still had 50% battery left afterwards.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/06/2012 14:07

Mac systems such as IMac and Macbook are not impervious to viruses, but those running on iOS, which includes Ipads, are safer because you can only download software via the App store, which are tested and approved by Apple.

all the TV ones - iplayer 4od etc etc

glastocat · 18/06/2012 14:28

Has anyone mentioned Words with Friends yet? I am totally bloody addicted to it. Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/06/2012 15:06

That's the problem, I am fighting everyone in the house getting addicted to it. So, I try and use it as little as possible (in front of the DCs anyway) otherwise I would never get anything done, and may be one reason why I'm not getting so much out of it. The DCs have lots of educational apps but they much prefer the fun ones, so I do have to regulate it's use quite a bit, and therefore have to lead by example. Some of the educational ones are very good though.

Imisssleepingin · 18/06/2012 20:22

Where do you get the headphones from ?

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 18/06/2012 23:19

I'd like to know that too. :)

Krumbum · 18/06/2012 23:35

So much faster than a laptop! Easier to use and portable (I like to do stiff while lying down). I love touch screen web browsing, the games, reading books on it and watching tv.

PorkyandBess · 18/06/2012 23:41

I have a MacBook which I use all the time, but i-pad comes in very handy too -

I prop it at the end of the bath and watch i-player stuff.

Great for taking out/train journeys etc.

Great battery life.

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 19/06/2012 00:17

Do you have to pay for iPlayer for music/movies?

LurkingAndLearningForNow · 19/06/2012 01:36

So just worked out I'm getting n iPad 3. Anyone have one/what do you find different from the other two?

WhatSheSaid · 19/06/2012 02:36

We have an iPad 2, got it a few weeks ago. Love it. All the stuff other people have mentioned - surfing, MN, Fb, checking weather, newspapers, recipe app, loads of games and educational apps for dds.

Good app called TuneIn which allows you to listen to radio stations from anywhere around the world - live programmes and also older ones. I'm not in the UK and I listen to Radio 4 and 5 on it a lot.

WhatSheSaid · 19/06/2012 02:41

Oh and we don't have a laptop so the portability is a huge plus for me. Had to do everything at the table on the desktop before. Now I can listen to the Archers while I bath the dcs :)

Fishpond · 19/06/2012 02:49

.

HansieMom · 19/06/2012 04:01

It is small, can take to bed or out on porch. Apps download quickly. I can take (poor quality) pictures and easily send them off. These would be spur of the moment pics like DGD pouting. Three year olds like it as well as 5,6, and 8 year olds as well as me, their Gamma.

glastocat · 19/06/2012 08:28

For those who are asking, any headphones will do. iplayer has a subscription of £7 a month I think if outside the UK, not sure if in the UK, but there are some free programmes on it too.

ggirl · 19/06/2012 08:54

ok I am being won over ...have been on it rather a lot since I got it

myfitnesspal is frreakin' amazing!!!!

ds loves it

want some more home decor apps if anyone knows any?
