Have fallen worryingly in love with my iphone - anyone want to come and chat to me about theirs?

I'm a total techno-dinosaur, so perhaps that explains things. But I got a hand-me-up from DSS of his old iphone and - WOW. I'm loving it - so sleek, so easy, so fun, so delightful to use after my sticky-key'd NOKIA. So far, one of the best things has been having Skype on my phone. So what do you do with your iphone, and how else shoudl I use mine ?

ps and HOW do I write notes on calendar dates in teh future ie not today?

I have iphone 3 - does the close all aps work on a 3? I can't get it to work by fast double clicking the button! Drat!
I do get the shaky aps thing occasionally - well usually it's my 3 year old who makes that happen so apparently all my aps are 'open' - I thought the X might have been to delete them not close them.

LOVE my iphone though! Never used it with SKYPE - good idea!

TheMoreItSnows · 28/02/2011 11:54

OK ladies-who-know-everything-about-the-iphone 4 I have a question for you...

Why can't I get it to play films that I have downloaded from iTunes?

Spent ages downloading Beauty & The Beast from iTunes to keep the kids happy on a car journey and then am not bright enough to work out how to get the film onto the wretched phone for the journey.....

Am I just too dim? 'iPhone says noooo'? Confused

stenogirl · 28/02/2011 12:04

I love my iPhone 4.
When reading a Mumsnet page (or any website) and you get to bottom but want to jump to top of page, tap the space where the time and battery level is and page will zoom to top.

Apps I like :
Skype
EBay
Facebook
Word Warp
Solebon
Blocks Classic
Vouchercloud
Bejewelled
Emoji (smileys for texting)
Tv Guide
Boxed In
Jamie Oliver
Nigella
Met Office
iBooks
Lottery

Tee2072 · 28/02/2011 12:39

bella interesting. Everything I've read says more apps running, less battery life.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 28/02/2011 12:49

tee yes, the forums I read (haven't got a link, just googled) were saying that they aren't actually running in the background. the double click is more of a 'what have I used recently' button.

but I am an apple newbie myselfso I'm def making sure I am attributing these remarks to others.

BellaBearisWideAwake · 28/02/2011 12:51

here is one discussion

BellaBearisWideAwake · 28/02/2011 12:51

and here is something pertinent only to the iphone 4

Tee2072 · 28/02/2011 13:07

Again, interesting, Bella.

My DH and I have both noticed longer battery life when we close apps. It must take some energy (and memory) to keep the list, even if the apps aren't running.

mamaJK · 28/02/2011 13:45

shazam is excellent - if a song comes on the radio and you don't know it select shazam on your iphone and it will find it for you - title and artist. still amazes me!

CornishKK · 28/02/2011 16:08

I like TuneIn radio, Doodlejump, Tweetdeck and Amazon. Peekaboo Barn is brilliant for toddlers.

I love my iPhone but it's the iPad that's changed my life. Sometimes I kiss it.

FindingStuffToChuckOut · 28/02/2011 16:39

the ebay ap is brilliant.

Mrswhiskerson · 28/02/2011 16:45

I love my iPhone I mumsnet on the bus to work I can email do my shopping keep up with relatives who live abroad on facebook the calendar keeps me organised and I can put my lists into notes. Since I'm such a film buff imdb keeps me entertained for ages I could actually hug it sometimes but I am a total gadget geek .

Gleekfreak · 28/02/2011 18:07

My DH got me an IPad for Christmas-am so so in love! Says he regrets it now as has lost me to it! :o

SoupDragon · 28/02/2011 18:52

I rarely use my PC at all any more. I do most things with my iPad.

Or my iPhone which was my first foray into iStuff. It came in and took over my life. Looking forward to iPhone 5 which should be release shortly after my upgrade is due [bounce]

SoupDragon · 28/02/2011 18:53

I have to say that the iPhone did change my life. I can now do stuff like online shopping in what used to be dead time like waiting for the children to come out of school.

scarlotti · 28/02/2011 20:33

Loving my iPhone4 too!! {grin]
Thanks for the closing apps tip, and also all the apps you love - I've just doubled the amount on my phone!!

cheapskatemum · 28/02/2011 20:47

I loathe my iphone & desperately want my Nokia 6313i back, but DS1 has lost the batteryAngry

Dawnybabe · 28/02/2011 20:52

when? when? when?

(hopping from foot to foot)

worriermum · 28/02/2011 20:54

Has anyone used Viber ? If I've understood correctly, then it's a kind of Skype for iphones only ie you can make calls using wi fi from iphone to iphone. I'm asking because the quality of my Skype calls has deteriorated so much recently. I'm wondering if I would get better quality with Viber.

OP posts:
bafanatheSober · 28/02/2011 22:23

My friend has Viber to speak to her bro in America, she really rates it, I have downloaded it, but yet to use it. Will let you know though

thinkingaboutschools · 28/02/2011 22:51

I now have an Iphone as of a few days ago - I had a blackberry before. As an iphone newbie I really need some guidance. Don't know anything about apps and I have to say wasn't sure at all about having no keys....

Dawnybabe · 28/02/2011 23:53

Just discovered that when you double click to show your apps, if you swish it sideways it brings up iPod controls and a button for locking the screen's orientation so you can read it lying down without it spinning the wrong way.

Am loving this thread.

Longstocking2 · 01/03/2011 00:21

no but dh is....

OneFishTwoFish · 01/03/2011 08:45

Love my iPhone 4, couldn't be without it.

I have a question. All the pictures I have taken are stored in one big folder called camera roll. Is there a way I can sort them into albums without using a Mac ( which I don't have)?

Thanks

nymphadora · 01/03/2011 08:57

I want that too onefish.

Can't do the swishing to the side thing?
