I'm a total techno-dinosaur, so perhaps that explains things. But I got a hand-me-up from DSS of his old iphone and - WOW. I'm loving it - so sleek, so easy, so fun, so delightful to use after my sticky-key'd NOKIA. So far, one of the best things has been having Skype on my phone. So what do you do with your iphone, and how else shoudl I use mine ?

ps and HOW do I write notes on calendar dates in teh future ie not today?

Fantastic had mine for over a year and I looove her! She holds the key to my lift and my heart.

When recently couldn't find dh I was more concerned that he had my
iPhone in his pocket! Grin

coinoperatedgirl · 26/02/2011 02:37

Words with friends is good though, only because I'm thrashing dp who has my old hero.

coinoperatedgirl · 26/02/2011 02:38

Fabulous music player too (duh) Grin.

My favourite apps are a shopping list one, so you can tick off things as you're shopping, the ocado app is brilliant, just scan the barcodes of things you're running out of ( as well as search) and order your shopping totally with your phone. I like a killer Sudoku too. Facebook and twitter are incredibly addictive now.

Tee2072 · 26/02/2011 07:24

You need to click the home button twice quickly to see your apps.

And, no, there is no other way to close apps. The iPhone's one major issue, IMHO. My husband dreams of a 'close all apps' button. Grin

I am now in love with my Blackberry Bold. I can work it, although sometimes it takes me a while to find certain things, but it is amazing and it does everything I could possibly need and more. Grin

ThatisNotMyName · 26/02/2011 13:39

I didn't know that about closing apps. Literally all mine were running and have been for a year. Why did no one tell me before?

Ice also just learned that you can see where all your photos were taken on a map. Brilliant

trixymalixy · 26/02/2011 13:49

I have a blackberry bold for work and an iPhone 4 for me. I hate hate hate the blackberry it s so much harder to use and I hate the teeny screen and buttons v

I used my iphone for skype-to-skype calls and the sound quality was brilliant - better than anything I had heard using my Nokia cell phone. But suddenly my Skype calls are dreadful - the sounds distorts and often breaks up entirely. I'm wondering if this is because i have been fiddling around with the settings, and generally arsing about on the phone. I've tried to restore every setting I could but cant really remember what I've visited and changed. So, my question is...any tips for getting good sound on a skype from an iphone, and any idea if any settings on the phone would affect skype quality?

Tee, are you out there..you seem to be a our resident iphone expert!

trixy I just cant get to grips with touch screen thingies and it drives me insane. I was used to my Nokia with the keyboard so to go to BB Bold seemed like the next thing. Idid have a good play with DH Iphone 4, but drove me insane.

I suppose you are either a BB or a iphone, much like a Mercedes or a BMW person. Grin

Tee2072 · 27/02/2011 13:44

Worrier I personally just think it's the Skype has released a new version that is crap! Your settings shouldn't have anything to do with it. I have also noticed it's not very good lately on my iPhone and on my computer.

trixymalixy · 27/02/2011 18:02

Lol jax. I keep trying to use the screen on my blackberry as a touch screen and get really pissed off. I think I'm just too used to the iPhone.

worriermum · 27/02/2011 20:02

Thanks Tee, that is very helpful. But depressing - I dont have a landline (third world country) so my mobile is really important to me. And Skype is an important part of that - most of the people dear to me are in countries far away. So a crappy new version of Skype is no small thing in my world. Is it possible to un-install the latest version, do you think?

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 27/02/2011 20:32

No, I don't think so. I fought against installing the new version on my PC, as I am in the UK but my family is in the US and we Skype all the time. In any case, eventually the old version just stopped working and I was forced to upgrade. They have apparently made it impossible to downgrade.

Have you thought about emailing Skype and complaining? I have done that (not that I got a response) and maybe if enough people do, they'll fix it in the version!!

If you have it on a PC, there is a give feedback option, I don't know if there is on the iPhone, I haven't looked!

MissRead · 27/02/2011 21:02

I adore mine, not much of a gadget person but I've never had anything so useful, honestly it's right up there with DH and DD in my life :) Currently lusting after an iPhone 4 but quite happy with my 3G for the time being.

princessProudmel · 27/02/2011 21:05

Why would I need too switch off my apps? Confused

Tee2072 · 27/02/2011 21:18

It saves battery life, Princess.

catinboots · 27/02/2011 21:37

how do i know if my apps are still running/active??

Confused
OnEdge · 27/02/2011 21:43

i dropped mine in the snow at Xmas and drove the car over it Shock but they fixed it, I love it, would be lost without it now.

princessProudmel · 27/02/2011 21:58

All my apps were 'running'! Even the ones we havem't used for months.
What does 'running' mean anyway? :)

threefeethighandrising · 27/02/2011 22:36

I'm trying to decide between an iphone and HTC Desire (Android). I reckon this thread will probably be a tad biased Grin

WhatWillSantaBring · 27/02/2011 23:01

I love my iPhone 4 so much I want to marry it! I use the notes and calendar in place of my diary, check the weather, research anything I'm curiousabout on the wikipedia app, it's my camera, video camera and music system, I watch tv on it (I rip box sets onto iTunes) and of course use MN. and at the moment it's my Internet access as we have to wait a month for BT to sort out the phone.

I'm still an app novice as I've only had it a month, but use the ibaby breastfeeding app, and will download one of the calorie counter apps. Any other practical app recommendations? Willgive ocado a go now...

sunnydaylucy · 27/02/2011 23:12

Love my iPhone, most of the apps I use have been mentioned.

Love "words with friends" but my main addiction is "QRANK", a trivia game you can play once a day. Brilliant...especially for the competitive amongst us!

Oh and Foursquare...love it!

AFEICA · 28/02/2011 05:54

My friend has the HTC HD2 and it is totally crap so personally I wouldn't recommend it and neither would they!

I have the iphone 4, I love it, Bloody Brilliant. Don't know how I ever managed without it.

Can anyone explain what 'tethered data' means?

threefeethighandrising · 28/02/2011 06:53

What is the "ibaby breastfeeding app"?
