They've left college, now we are trying not to think about a certain date.

lobster I'm up for real now. Managed to snatch another hour of sleep. I'm sure I will be nodding at my desk by 3pm.

'Only' 2 more sleeps/disturbed nights to go.

Knittinganewme · 14/08/2018 06:37

Morning all. DS asked to be woken at six but I think the reality is a bit harsh. Me shouting "For the Alliance!" and "Azeroth needs you" has done nothing to get him out of bed despite him having counted down to the launch of this game for months.

Knittinganewme · 14/08/2018 06:43

I take it back, there goes the shower.

LeiatheSchnauzer · 14/08/2018 06:54

The first of the results dreams hit me last night with a bang and not in a good way. Probably caused by ds telling me yesterday that he doesn't think his exams went well enough for his firm choice. Not sure if this is last minute nerves/ trying to avoid getting his hopes up/ reaction to the driving test but first time he's vocalised this. Hence my dreams!
Would have been better getting up at 3am like the rest of you!

lashingsofgingerbeer · 14/08/2018 07:40

Good morning! Nearly end of an era & end of another thread - wow! Lobster hope you got some sleep! Like you I'll be twiddling my thumbs by Thursday evening as DD out with friends & has categorically stated she wants to drive to school & collect her results, absorb, chat to friends & then come home - oh the waiting!! Confused

Petalflowers · 14/08/2018 07:42

Got bank statement last night and ended up,worrying about money. At 11o’clock last night, was going through bank statement trying to work out finances. In theory, we should it’s feasible, but the shower needs fixing, our main oven is broken, my glasses need replacing (arm is slightly broken) etc. Plus I still haven’t bought new school shoes, dc2 bus pass, bits and pieces for dc1 etc.

Petalflowers · 14/08/2018 07:43

Off to,do,the lottery...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/08/2018 07:51

morning all. Fell asleep instantly but then had a restless night. Struggling to wake up this morning.

marmiteloversunite · 14/08/2018 07:55

Morning. I actually slept last night. Yay! Feel better for it.
Petal it's always the same isn't it , that everything goes wrong/needs mending at the same time!

GnomeDePlume · 14/08/2018 08:08

I was thinking of a new thread title. How about:

'Class of '18, now what?'.

TheThirdOfHerName · 14/08/2018 08:15

I slept really well last night! My breathing is much improved.

knitting your rousing rally call made me laugh.

TheThirdOfHerName · 14/08/2018 08:16

Petal we've just paid for DD's bus pass; over £300 (and that's with the saver card).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/08/2018 08:26

I like that Gnome :) We do have a new thread waiting for us, but that would be a good follow on for us.

I can't believe how expensive this summer has been. Driving lessons, dd needed a new laptop, various things in the house have needed urgently fixing, buying stuff for university. I've gone all head in the sand about it and to my shame I'm not even looking at the bills I'm just making dh deal with it. Blush

My phone is dying but I'm just going to have to manage,

OP posts:
GnomeDePlume · 14/08/2018 08:40

OhYouBadBadKitten I agree about the expense. DD2 has a new driving test booked for mid September. Quite cheerfully announced that she wanted to book another block of 10 lessons. We had to explain that the cost of that plus another test was the same as the cost of the new laptop we will have to buy to replace the one she drowned.

raspberryrippleicecream · 14/08/2018 08:42

Another broken night here too, maybe just as well I have school holidays!

DS2's bus pass is over £800 (out of catchment school organised) so It pay by Direct Debit.

My Mum died nearly 10 years ago, but left each grandchild a small amount of money for their 18th birthday, specifically for a laptop as she'd bought my older nephew his when he went.

DD has plenty of money just now, thanks to working. She is starting at 5 am on Friday so won't be out late. They asked her for Thursday (expected to be busy!). Her friend is still trying to be Rota'd off.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/08/2018 08:51

That was thoughtful of your Mum Raspberry.

I darent mention the costs to dd, she tends to feel terribly guilty about spending money.

I feel constantly sick and can't eat. Combo of stress and antibiotics not agreeing with me. I'm taking dd out for lunch. Could be interesting Confused Normally I'd cry off, but she's been looking forward to it and I'm trying to keep her mind off tomorrow's STEP results.

It's not just the results though for us is it? I realised with horror once again that she leaves home in 5-6 weeks.

Yep, another disturbed night and it all started so promisingly. Fell asleep without any trouble for the first time in days but was woken at about 2.30 am by some twit in the park at the back of ours riding its moped/mini moto up and down. Then couldn’t get back to sleep because I had that song from the Greatest Showman going round in my head, but I could only remember two lines of it! Does anyone else think Thursday could feel like a huge anti climax, whichever way it goes?

Nettleskeins · 14/08/2018 09:35

i've been sleeping fine (if I drink a drop of alcohol however, it is different story, extremely bad response to it sleepwise) but last night I dreamt I lived in a large vegetable garden where several cats and dogs had given birth to kittens and puppies, and there was no-one feeding them pnce they were weaned; I must have been the person who was meant to be in charge but hadn't taken charge... but I only thought this near the end of the dream Shock very relieved to wake up.

Marmite glad the first appointment is done.

Off to Southend today

Downey enjoy your trip, and hope you get the 1000 things done.

kitten sorry you are feeling ill.

YippeeTeenager · 14/08/2018 09:43

Nettles, that’s really strange! I’m sleeping well and no exam results nightmares but I keep dreaming that I’m looking after really vulnerable tiny kittens that I can’t keep track of. It must be linked to DC leaving the nest but very odd!

Nettleskeins · 14/08/2018 09:46

I'm feeling worried about Freshers' Week too.

Ds2 sang me Look Down from Les Mis last night, making a very sinister Javert crossed with angry Valjean Grin He is cheering me up. He doesn't do music at all at school or outside it, but seems to also be a fantastic singer.

HesMyLobster · 14/08/2018 09:47

Ugh. Luckily school holidays for me too, I definitely couldn't do a day of teaching on such little sleep.
DDs dropped off at a ridiculously early dance class and home via Starbucks drive through. Think I might just plant myself on the sofa with a box set for the morning - feeling wiped out but daren't go back to bed as that would make tonight's sleep even worse!
Sounds like we're all suffering one way or another - let's hope we make it to Thursday without falling to bits! Grin

HardwickWhite · 14/08/2018 09:55

pretty talking about going off to uni at the end of S5 reminded me that DH very nearly did that. Another difference in the Scottish system means that DC are often still 17 when they go, even if it’s the end of S6. In DHs case, with five good As at Higher he very nearly went at the end of S5 when he was just 16. I can’t imagine DD or any of her friends doing that! Shock. He still hadn’t stopped growing either and was particularly baby faced. I don’t recall him ever being asked for proof of age though - different times!

As it is, she will be going to uni a year later than her old Scottish class mates, and since it is a five year course, she will be positively ancient compared to them by graduation.

Hoveringhobbit · 14/08/2018 10:09

Yet another restless night here with more weird dreams. Couldn't get to school because the Harry Potter bus had blocked the underpass (we live five mins from school down a country lane...) and we had to climb up a rope to get over it. Another one who will be struggling not to nod off at my desk today - not easy when I'm surrounded by swarms of people doing due diligence.

There are five RG universities with courses in clearing that DS would be interested in; including two that he turned down offers from. He's taking a look at them now so that we can rule any out that he definitely isn't interested in.

One tip I keep meaning to post - don't send your DCs away with nice wooden hangers as I did last year with DD. They have a very small amount of hanging room so thin plastic ones are the best - easier to cram in.

Janus · 14/08/2018 11:32

Glad most had some sleep, sorry Lobster it wasn’t for you, hope you managed to catch up on some.
Has anyone heard that some unis send out confirmation on Wednesday? Dd said the odd one do, I wonder if she dreamt that 😂
Dd seems calmer today, hope that lasts!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/08/2018 11:35

They definitely aren't allowed to confirm on Wednesday. UCAS has an embargo til Thursday.
