They've left college, now we are trying not to think about a certain date.

dd has put together a bit of a kit for Thursday as she'll be away from home:
ucas number
AS grades incl ums and gcse grades
contact details for admissions officers

also tissues, chocolates, pen and paper, phone charger. Anything else she should be packing?

Another day - another bleary eyed me. I have a client meeting later on and I'm probably not going to be quite with it. My dream last night had me locked in the polling station which is a scout hut around the corner from my house...I'm not sure what that means...

DS was supposed to be in work on Thursday but has managed to get his shift covered. He was up early this morning as he and his friends are meeting up to 'discuss Leeds Festival'.

Onwards to Thursday comrades.....

Janus · 14/08/2018 12:11

Kitten, I thought not too, there would be an outcry. Think there’s some nonsense on the net! This is our first time, I feel like a real novice!

janinlondon · 14/08/2018 12:12

OYBK - we have also been told to have two phones - one for incoming and one for outgoing calls....? On another topic, can anyone answer this please? If a near miss has occurred and DD gets her insurance, but her firm agrees to reconsider (either based on a remark or a discussion on phone), does she have to let the insurance know?

raspberryrippleicecream · 14/08/2018 12:21

Kitten according to what I've read a copy they should have a copy of their Personal Statement to hand too. Also making sure powerbanks are charged here (DH's job)

I've dug out DD's DD's GCSE and AS results. DD was meant to be priniting our her PS. She said when I asked it ws on UCAS anyway, so I doubt she will actually do it in advance. She is back in denial mode.

DD is also going to Leeds next week, I have put stuff in a pile as I was clearing away our camping stuff last week but again DD is doing nothing. She mentioned needing some clothes and a bum bag. She is working Friday until Wednesday so don't know when things are going to happen.

flatmouse · 14/08/2018 12:23

DS didn't pass driving test. He's a bit fed up - hopefully not a sign of things to come! Waiting til after Thursday to rebook.

Hoveringhobbit · 14/08/2018 12:28

DD19, DS18 and DS17 are all going to Leeds too in separate groups. No prep done other than sampling different flavours of pot noodles......

Hoveringhobbit · 14/08/2018 12:33

Sorry about your DS flatmouse

starfleet · 14/08/2018 12:47

Sorry your DS didn't pass flatmouse. If it's any consolation DS failed his first one but passed when he did it again a few weeks later.

An airbed and a head torch have been purchased for Leeds...

2gorgeousboys · 14/08/2018 13:16

Sorry to hear DS didn't pass Flatmouse. I didn't sleep well, tossed and turned to the sound of DH snoring and then managed to fall asleep and then sleep through my alarm.

I'm not looking forward to tomorrows meeting with the Head at DS's school for a briefing on results. I know I'm going to be interpreting and misinterpreting comments.

I'm at work and keep getting distracted thinking about Thursday. Maybe I'll think about kittens instead!!

TheThirdOfHerName · 14/08/2018 13:25

DS1 is going to Reading (the festival rather than the university). He wants to buy one of those metal folding trolleys to wheel crates of beer around...

DrPeppersPhD · 14/08/2018 14:04

Hiya, me again. Honestly, in the countdown to Thursday I'm not doing too well. I'm trying not to dwell on it, but at the same time I can't really help myself. I don't want to think positively because I don't want to jinx myself, but thinking "I'm going to fail" over and over isn't exactly fun either. I'm trying to think about my general results in the past to reassure myself, but that has the double wammy effect of making me nervous in case I've bombed again (which I have been known to do in the past) AND making me feel ridiculous for worrying because if I follow my usual pattern and the grade bounderies fall as they seem to be expected to I've got nothing to worry about.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/08/2018 14:11

Hang in there DrO not long to go now.

I'm sorry to hear that Flatmouse. It's pot luck half the time I reckon.

Hi Dr Peppers

You know this - but I'm going to remind you - your results are fixed, they are already in a system somewhere. No kind of thinking is going to affect them. Sometimes in life, things aren't as good as we had hoped, but later on we can look back and see they happened for a reason. DD didn't do too well in her GCSEs, but realised she didn't cope well with exams and therefore decided to do BTECs at college. She got great grades and is shortly starting her career where she'll be supporting children with disabilities to be the best that they can be in life. Maybe if she hadn't struggled at school, she wouldn't have done so well in college. Maybe her destiny was always to struggle so that she could use that experience to help other children with their own struggles. I have a feeling you'll be just fine, but if your results aren't quite what you'd hoped for - allow yourself some space to be upset, but then try to decide what you can learn from the experience and perhaps how you can put it to good use.

Bakeandyarn · 14/08/2018 14:31

Driving tests are definitely pot luck, DS just wasn’t in the right frame of mind first time but second time he knew what to expect and was ready. That said, as DH told him, “you just need to watch out for the other jokers on the road”, that’s the bit beyond anyone’s control!

HesMyLobster · 14/08/2018 14:36

Ah flatmouse it sucks. DD passed hers 3rd time, she took the 2 fails really badly though. I do think a lot of it is down to luck. Hopefully your ds can get another one booked in ASAP.

DrP I can't even imagine what it must be like in your head right now, or in any of our dc's. The only advice I can think of is try to keep busy and distracted so you can't dwell (easier said than done I know!)

Relieved to see DD's insurance is in clearing, so I'm hoping that means they'll be a bit lenient on grades.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/08/2018 15:21

DrP not DrO!

Had a good chat with dd over lunch. Most of her nerves were over her driving test. She's actually feeling quite ok about results, she's decided she can see lots of positives to her insurance.

If she's ok, then I'm ok.

I'll let dd know about printing her ps though. That's good to know :)
