They've left college, now we are trying not to think about a certain date.

flatmouse I've done that with the tariff points. Endless permutations and it never quite added up right.

Until he received his incredibly generously tariffed (is that a word?)Btec subsidiary. And his grade 7 gets him the points he needs which is more than 104. Hmm it doesn't quite seem fair.

Now a clearing question. Why would all the clearing places be the same as the original grades they asked for? I am looking at Glasgow and Oxford Brookes, for Music just out of interest. They don't seem any different than the original offers we were gettting. Is that because people are adjusting up in clearing as well as going down?

I would have thought clearing grades would be lower. At Liverpool the clearing for Music is still an A grade!!!! seems very high. Bangor also ask for very high grades, I think 2 A's including Music.

Or do the grades they want change nearer the date or on the date?

Congratulations Kitten's Dd! DS hasn't even started learning yet although he has got his provisional licence.

DS has done some planning for Thursday and looked at Clearing courses. I've got the day off and asked today what his plans are. He's asked me to go with him and then all being well we will go out for breakfast... his school are opening at 7am.

Hope everyone gets some sleep tonight and there are no more bad dreams!

Nettleskeins · 13/08/2018 21:04

Also interesting to see not a single Scottish or EU place available in Clearing. It is quite shocking that the cap is applied so tightly, disadvantaging the Scottish applicants no doubt, or perhaps you just have be very very quick off the mark.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2018 21:05

I'm sorry about your ds' test Leia. Good luck to your ds for tomorrow Flatmouse. More kids with lots of pressure this week then.

So what are everyone's plans for Wednesday then? Decorating, followed by cinema, followed by beer for me. dd is going to a wake gathering after work.

oh no, ds installed grammarly on my computer and it means I am posting everything three times to avoid the grammar police.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2018 21:06

I've passed on everyone's congratulations to dd. She sighed deeply Grin

Hairdresser, shopping, then Yo Sushi Grin

Nettleskeins isn't it because most university offers in Scotland are unconditional anyway?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2018 21:08

Nettle!!! Grin That's one way to use up the thread.

Well done to your DD kitten on the driving. Commiserations to your DS Leia - hopefully he can get a cancellation soon. Lobster - and well done to your DD too - that's an epic drive! Glad they are home safe.

DS's school is open from 7.45am on Thursday. He said he isn't thinking about TDTCBM (the day that cannot be mentioned) until he checks track. In the meantime he has printed out his PS and made copies of his GCSE results sheet should he need to get started on a clearing place.

We did take the afternoon off and went into town - he was fascinated by the haberdashery department of the fabric shop he insisted we visit. He intends to customise a jacket so needed some bits. I was not enamoured of the "vintage" boutique we went in next. It was full of musty old nylon track and suede bomber jackets with lots of hip young things wafting around. I must be getting old as I kept picking things up and saying "how much? for this old tat?".

I'll be probably end up having odd dreams now about drowning under piles of "vintage" polyester maxi dresses and acrylic jumpers Confused

DD is meeting friends on Wednesday. I'm taking dd2 and my nephew to a dinosaur soft play place. DN has sn and is very full on as well as being very loving. I think he'll be the perfect distraction from my results nerves.

raspberryrippleicecream · 13/08/2018 21:18

Cinema here too I think.

DS1 is going into his 3rd year. His uni appears to have been very successful in attracting students this year, and to accomodate all the teaching hours therefore required is planning to extend lecture time until 7 pm. (currently 5 pm). DS1 is not happy, not only does he feel he will not be at his best at that time, it is also going to majorly impact on a lot of extra-curricular societies!

flatmouse · 13/08/2018 21:24

Thinking meal out Wednesday evening, if I can book it in to DDs schedule. Mind you DS at 18th on Tuesday and Thursday!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2018 21:29

I don't think lecturers will be happy with that either Raspberry.

Last nights dream was going back to dds infant school, where I was in charge of a class and lost control. They somehow filled the room with feathers. I'm not really seeing a direct relevance to dds situation!

I’ve finished knitting baby booties for all the work girlies who are having babies (none for years, then they all come along at once). Now I’ve run out of babies so I’m doing random crochet, anything to keep busy. By results day, my new blanket should be about 12 miles long. Is it really three more sleeps?!

MsAwesomeDragon · 13/08/2018 21:34

Is that just his department raspberry? Or all departments? Ie should I be warning DD about that before she goes? I can't imagine the lecturers will be thrilled with that at all, I certainly wouldn't be happy if my working day was suddenly made 2 hours longer!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2018 21:34

I offered to crochet dd a blanket. She was not impressed.

Hi.

I've been directed here after starting a thread asking about anyone waiting for AS results.

DD is hoping to be Cambridge worthy and is counting down the days to knowing whether she can bother applying or not - results are out on Thursday.

We've had a week away at a summer school with her Uni applications in mind, then a week's summer holiday and today she's passed her theory test. Tomorrow she starts 3 weeks of museum and library volunteer days. So plenty to keep her busy.

prettybird · 13/08/2018 21:41

Given that the Scottish results came out last Tuesday at 8am, it may be that any Scottish/EU clearing spaces have already been taken. (No idea when the EU results come/came out though Blush)

Bakeandyarn · 13/08/2018 21:44

Made this one for DD, took ages but we said she will take it with her when she goes to uni in three years time!

Class of '18 nervously waiting.
TheThirdOfHerName · 13/08/2018 21:49

Hi DrMadelineMaxwell I recognise you from discussions about summer schools.

Stopyourhavering64 · 13/08/2018 21:52

Ds got a place at Scottish uni through clearing on A level results day last year...same University he'd applied for but a different course with a slightly lower offer- and still lower than the offer if he'd applied for it as his first choice - he got CCE ( although course had stated BCC in its prospectus, but he'd also done EPQ and Welsh Bac)
don't know where you get that idea from that there are no places left in clearing at Scottish Unis - in fact just checked there are plenty of courses in clearing again this year at his Uni

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2018 21:56

Which subject DrM?

OP posts:
prettybird · 13/08/2018 22:07

There may be places still available for English/International (non EU) at Scottish Unis in clearing - but there is indeed a cap for Scottish/EU students , so places for them may well be limited Sad

I'm just glad that ds got an Unconditional to Aberdeen Smile

Nettleskeins · 13/08/2018 22:16

As Prettybird says there is no shortage of places for UK students, just not eu or scottish. The UK students also get in with lower grades aka Scottish students need very high grades. It is the funding issue. However, I've been reading the fees info and it seems quite a grey area, if you have an EU passport but live in England or Wales, it doesnt seem like you necessarily get free tuition after all. You have to have an address in EU.
well, I hope so, or we've wasted 28 thousand in tuition fees...by not perservering with scottish unis...(ds is Irish and so am I)

It is not exactly clear on the websites. You have to apply first to find out if you get the money off!
