Not on the register, but checking in as feeling so nervous for DD! We were away overnight & she had a meltdown before we left & when we returned - she looks so pale Shock She's currently sitting Geography after a bowl of porridge & dropping her off - don't know whose more nervous?! She's got Geography & Biology this week. She's revised hard but self doubt is her demon & very much feeling it right now.

Ursula I hope you're feeling better - a poorly back & a poorly horse is not a good combination!

Best of luck & good health to everyone out there throughout the exam period now!

LoniceraJaponica · 04/06/2018 10:44

DD is the same lashings
DD has done loads of revision, but now thinks she hasn't done enough. She took geography as her "easy" option and found it very difficult. It didn't help that it is a new syllabus and there are no past papers to practise on.

I hope things look up soon Ursula

lashingsofgingerbeer · 04/06/2018 11:04

Lonicera it's her favourite subject, so all rather worrying as not seen her as stressed as this about it before! She's doing Edexcel & only X1 SA practice paper too as new syllabus. They haven't been shown at all how to answer the big marker questions & all the case studies to revise are far too many! What board is your DD sitting? The field trip exam work was so stressful too just for 20% of marks! I do hope it doesn't completely crush her love of it - debatable at the moment! Waiting for text now to see how it went Confused Hope your DD had a good exam experience today.

Nettleskeins · 04/06/2018 11:10

there's always more to learn...however much you have learnt, so in a way there is no solution to feeling you haven't done enough.

Ds is still in bed. We are feeling very frustrated. He is trying NOT to think about exams. I've just handed him a sheet of Othello imagery about the sea which I have compiled in my spare time Confused The response was nnggrrr and then he started arguing about the plot. Ah well, one way to wake someone up. I think he was awake until 2am last night, neither of his parents could sleep at all Hmm so we could hear the creaking of various floorboards.

Dtwins seem so motivated in comparison. But comparisons are of course odious.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 04/06/2018 11:29

Good luck to all those doing or about to do exams.

Dd has gone in to school for afternoon exam. She seemed quite happy yesterday. She was doing lots of phonetics stuff which is very relevant for her chosen course but she does have to pass physics first.
However she was really nervous this morning and went off with that horrible conviction that you have forgotten something but can't remember what. ( And a tin of four leafed clover shaped shortbread for everyone for good luck).

Nettleskeins · 04/06/2018 11:38

thank you for the shortbread Haudin it was just what I needed to cheer me up (I'm fasting till lunchtime as nerves were driving me to constant snacking but I think virtual snacking allowed) I have a happy happy memory of my teenage years of constantly making shortbread from the M & S Freezer cookbook (1970's) the recipe which had semolina in it.

Well I've achieved my goal, ds has stormed out of the house, enraged by ds2 returning with excellent reports of his History GSCE taken this morning SadSmile Dh has gone to Germany to visit sick MIL. I think things will settle down now that the first history paper is over. I'm going to back off on advising ds1 now as it is backfiring. I think I will just stick with providing meals.

starfleet · 04/06/2018 12:08

Lonicera he needs 2 x A and 2 x A* for his chosen uni and they are all, as far as I'm aware, sitting general studies.

Another Edexcel Geography here. It has been a bit tricky for them with the new syllabus.

Just had a text from DS saying that he thinks it went OK, could have done with an extra 5 minutes to tidy up some answers and a bit on the last question where he could have written a bit more. One ticked off the list.

LoniceraJaponica · 04/06/2018 12:24

AQA geography here. DD thinks it went OK.

I don't understand why schools still do general studies as no university likes it.

HesMyLobster · 04/06/2018 12:25

Thinking of the Geographers. I hope it's a kind paper for them as it's a brand new spec (and if not then kind grade boundaries!)

And of the Physicists of course, there seem to be a lot on here.

HesMyLobster · 04/06/2018 12:30

5 A Levels sounds crazy! Shock I don't know why some schools still insist on compulsory general studies when most universities don't include it in offers.

The only dc at DD's school even allowed to continue with 4 were the further mathsers, because maths and further maths are so interlinked and are not always accepted as 2 separate A Levels in offers.

HesMyLobster · 04/06/2018 12:31

Glad your DD found it ok Lonicera, hope Lashings' DD did too!

HesMyLobster · 04/06/2018 12:32

Oops and Starfleet's DS!

NoHaudinMaWheest · 04/06/2018 12:59

Glad the geographers found it ok. It is really tricky to be a guinea pig when so much hangs on it.

GnomeDePlume · 04/06/2018 13:08

Time for me to start knitting up the raveled sleeve of care. DD2 is just going into Physics with Chemistry tomorrow and a Further Maths paper on Wednesday.

starfleet · 04/06/2018 13:15

Thanks Lobster

I agree about General Studies - although one of DS's initial uni picks did include it as one of their subject offers (the two he finally chose didn't)

He has 2 papers tomorrow - there is a clash so has to be kept in isolation after his morning exam until mid afternoon. He will think the world has ended as he will have to leave his phone in his locker and he won't be able to listen to music Smile

FantasyAndHope · 04/06/2018 14:01

I’m back, for good, fingers crossed, keep falling off
In response to earlier comments:
likely yes they did weigh her and do bmi
marmite it’s horrid she’s been to the gym and is enjoying fitness takes her mind off the stress of exams
doi
There is no wonder kids have eating disorders not fair!
loni
Her eye is stable

No revision done at all in the holidays, she’s revising today for an exam tomorrow
Luckily she knows philosophy pretty well
Dd has always been a crammer though and learns best under time pressure Hmm
Health wise we’re up and down period is due supposedly in 10 days and I suspect it will be a bad one as that is the bad good, bad and last was good

Goodluck to everyone today!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/06/2018 14:48

I'm glad you found us Lashings. Us register takers are clearly a bit rubbish at this (sorry Chocolate!) Imagine if it were a school trip and we'd lost half the roll Grin

I'm dreading hearing how the paper went. If it was 'ok' I'll be happy!
Waiting on twitter to see the verdict. I really hate this exam lark. I was talking to dh about it. Back in our day, offers even for the very good universities were around a B grade. Now there's just no space for error or a slightly off day.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 04/06/2018 16:08

Mmm shortbread! Smile

Thanks Lobster & NoHaudin - hope DD's exam went well too. DD's comment was it was 'ok, finished with time to check, but worried didn't put enough detail in 20 marker at end' A question came up on something not covered in class, but DD had covered it herself (because I'd told her to check textbook!) Lonicera glad DD found it ok & Star fleet glad DS found it ok - recall he wanted to do Human Geog degree last year. Your excused Kitten Grin Hope DD's exam went well too. Nettles very true about remembering facts - hope your day ends better than it started! Fantasy that's just crazy about your DD! The gym helps them to destress & keep a healthy weight. Feel for her if it is endo as it's wretched!

Next one for DD is Thursday - good luck everyone for the week.

LoniceraJaponica · 04/06/2018 16:26

Good luck to anyone with chemistry tomorrow. DD has been doing loads of past papers, but feels she knows nothing.

Petalflowers · 04/06/2018 16:29

Can I join you all?

Dc has just came in feeling nervous about the future. I asked what he said he was nervous about, and he said everything. Ie living away from home, looking after himself etc. He said he has been away before. Ie. School trips, but then things were done for you. I tried to reassure him and say he would be fine, and that we would practice over the summer. Ie. Cooking etc.

PandaG · 04/06/2018 17:25

Welcome petal!

Hope exams went OK today, DS said physics was more straightforward than last year's paper, less convoluted, but who knows?!

FantasyAndHope · 04/06/2018 17:34

ginger
She loves the treadmill she’s always loved to run and run I asked her if she was feeling ok as I hate running Hmm
loni
Dd feels like she knows nothing for RS tomorrow
Welcome petal

Hardwickwhite · 04/06/2018 17:43

DD is just back from a CBT session and seems calm and positive about her first exam tomorrow. DH is worrying on her behalf though 🙄

GnomeDePlume · 04/06/2018 17:51

PandaG message from DD2 was that Physics went fine so sounds like they had a similar take on the paper (which is always reassuring!)

LoniceraJaponica DD2 has Chemistry tomorrow also. Similar approach with loads of past papers.

One of the Further Maths papers on Wednesday then a break and then another cluster of exams.

MsAwesomeDragon · 04/06/2018 17:51

Dd thinks today's physics paper was "ok". She answered every question (whether they're correct is another matter), but there were more wordy questions than she wanted so she's not sure if she's hit all the points the mark scheme will require. She spoke to me for 2 mins and has now disappeared upstairs to revise for tomorrow's chemistry.
