"as I hate running"

So do I, but I still do it. I have joined a local walk to run group, and have manged to get up to 5k. It doesn't get any easier though.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 04/06/2018 18:18

dd also thought physics was ok but a few questions where she is not absolutely sure she got the right end of the stick.

Good luck for those with chemistry tomorrow.

UrsulaPandress · 04/06/2018 18:29

Psychology was really good apparently. All topics had been revised. 3 essays to do. Finished with two mins to spare

Her only concern is that the grade boundaries will be high.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/06/2018 18:32

physics was as expected. No surprises. Phew.

Her insurance opened up their accomodation today, which caused a bit of a spin. Not great timing for someone who likes to think about just one thing at a time.

Petal, dd is finding it daunting too.

That's good Ursula :)

Can you select accommodation at an insurance choice?

TheThirdOfHerName · 04/06/2018 18:38

DS1's insurance will only let those with firm offers submit their accommodation preferences, which is a shame as he is more likely to be going there than he is to his firm choice.

raspberryrippleicecream · 04/06/2018 18:47

Depends on the uni ursula. Two years ago ds1's insurance was York, he got to submit preferences (list of 9 I think) and had a guarantee of accommodation if it was required.

Glad today's exams have gone ok on the whole.

marmiteloversunite · 04/06/2018 19:03

I have my survival pack ready!!

DD still in her cave, wrapped in a fleece blanket revising. She says she might wear the blanket to her exams. Totally normal that!Hmm I will probably have to do a stealth wash of the blanket on Wednesday when she is out , like I did when she was a toddler. She is counting down in hours to her exam on Wednesday! Oh dear!!

Friends kids who did physics today said it was "ok" too and apparently the philosophy paper was kind?!

NoHaudinMaWheest · 04/06/2018 19:05

Dd's insurance allows insurance holders to submit preferences a long list of them. In dd's case she won't have a choice; they will allocate the most suitable accessible room. But she still had to do nine fictional preferences. Confused

Downeyhouse · 04/06/2018 19:23

Good to hear everyone seems to have had a good first day.

Ds had his epic 4 hour English marathon.
Limiting liquids worked and his bladder survived.

He Thinks it went well.

Unseen poem (which he hates) had them comparing a modern poem with a Shakespearean Sonnet. Has no recollection of which they were!

He had learnt 2 essays by heart and one came up. It was worth 40 marks so he was thrilled about that.

On to 3 hours of French tomorrow. Is currently learning another essay by heart hoping he gets lucky again.

Hope the chemistry students do well tomorrow.

likelyLilac · 04/06/2018 19:24

mine the only one quite worried about physics? she didn't finish the paper, left a few multiple choice at the end, I looked at the grade boundaries for last year and they seemed quite low, hoping for the same this year! DD needs an A in physics so she's a bit troubled

HesMyLobster · 04/06/2018 19:36

Lilac sorry your DD is worried. ThanksHopefully it's a case of focusing on the bits she didn't do instead of what she did do, and that it isn't as bad as she thinks. The best thing I think is to remind her that there's another paper to go so there's still time to make up any lost marks from today.

DD starts on Wednesday and I've got the dread already. Barely slept last night, not sure I'll even bother trying tonight.
I'm hoping once the first one is done I'll be able to relax a bit.
I was nowhere near this anxious about GCSEs.

Thesearepearls · 04/06/2018 19:50

It's important just to forget the last exam and focus on the next. But I bet your DD has done better at Physics than she thinks she has. I think there are three papers for Physics in total so plenty more marks available :)

Good luck for anyone doing Chemistry (and anything else) tomorrow

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/06/2018 19:51

They are probably all doing different boards as well for physics so I wouldn't worry.

OP posts:
NoHaudinMaWheest · 04/06/2018 19:58

Yes dd didn't have any multiple choice so definitely a different board. Apparently her school have chosen an 'unusual' board as it is maths heavy physics.

Housefiresarentfun · 04/06/2018 20:09

Ds1 found physics ok, chemistry tomorrow.
We've had it confirmed by the builders today that we need a new roof over the kitchen- they have a contractor coming to look at it tomorrow. Still waiting for the new kitchen details to be sent through to the builders / insurers for approval but they confirmed today that they will be recarpeting/putting flooring down in the whole hallway, dining room and kitchen as well as redecorating. We have got a lot to move out of the way as part of the hall is set up as an office. Gin is definitely being drunk!

Ds2 had history today and seemed happy enough when he came home, he doesn't say much about his exams though.

I'm glad today was ok for everyone.

Lucycat · 04/06/2018 20:19

Geography was ok here too. I think it was a straightforward paper with no nasty surprises. We have 2 days off here before English Lit and the human geography paper.
Wondering whether DD will want me to wake her when I leave for work at 7.15 tomorrow 😂

likelyLilac · 04/06/2018 20:38

Thanks, I think she does have a tendency to look at what she didn't do, having spoken to her more it seems only 7 or so marks were left at the end with a couple skipped. We calculated it and if she go 100% of what she did do right she was well within the a grade boundary for last year, so she's a bit more cheerfull though still worried as paper 2 and 3 are the ones she's least confident in.
Theres hope there still though and she does like her insurance uni as well so wont be too sad to go there.
Let the cycle begin again for chemistry!
Good luck to all the various exams going on Smile
HesMyLobster sympathy stress is the worst!

UrsulaPandress · 04/06/2018 21:51

It seems one question on the Psychology paper has caused a bit of a divide. DD is confident that she is on the right side with the majority on the other side so maybe the grade boundaries won't be too high.

chocolateworshipper · 04/06/2018 21:55

Sounds like those with exams today were ok - great news.

Another milestone here - just discovered that I no longer have access to the college parent portal - because she's left of course! Still a shock Shock

Very best of luck for the coming exams all.

TheThirdOfHerName · 04/06/2018 23:31

DS1 had his first exam today. I asked him how it went. The answer? 'OK'
Grin Flashback to GCSEs two years ago.

He has been quite irritable for the last week or so, and my patience was wearing quite thin.
This evening, he shared some of his Ben & Jerry's with me and complimented me twice, so I've decided I like him again. Smile

derekthe1adyhamster · 05/06/2018 06:38

Ok is good I've decided. Fine is even better. Don't get me started on not bad!!
Chemistry today.....

Petalflowers · 05/06/2018 06:57

Eldest son used to say ‘good’ tomeverything. I became an expert in assessing whether it was a good good, or an okay good.

HesMyLobster · 05/06/2018 08:02

Oh I remember well all the "ok"s and "not too bad"s from GCSEs, and trying to decipher exactly what they meant!

I managed to sleep last night! Possibly helped by DD making me stay up til after midnight asking her questions from her notes Hmm

She's the most self sufficient, independent, self motivated student ever until about 3 days before each exam when she suddenly needs testing 24hrs a day!
