DD given up everything apart from evening stables but is currently watching Nothing Like a Dame with us.

raspberryrippleicecream · 02/06/2018 23:04

Ms Awesome DD has stopped those too. I would have thought a couple of hours a week would have been a nice relax, but apparently not.

Chocolate my Ds1 is 20, and never seems that much older than DD.

HardwickWhite · 03/06/2018 00:44

DD has stopped everything apart from piano and climbing this year. I wish she had kept swimming, but that is on the back burner for just now. Soon maybe!

Downeyhouse · 03/06/2018 06:41

Ds is rugby mad and had to turn down the possibity to play in a major tournament in May as he it involved missing a few days of school.

Hé was sad and is missing his sport.

Still time for all that again after the exams.
I don’t think it is a bad thing for them to réalise that in life you need to do what you need to do before you do what you want to do.

Lucycat · 03/06/2018 09:51

Downeyhouse that's a great statement- not sure DD gets it completely right at times, but when you're just 18 you do know everything don't you 😂

Icouldbeknitting · 03/06/2018 12:21

My son would think I had posted that because one of my stock phrases is "do the things you have to do before the things you want to do". I use it every week when he's wasted hours doing whatever and there's no time for something important. I know I'm wasting my breath but I say it anyway.

Downeyhouse · 03/06/2018 13:28

It is one of mantras! And to be honest I have to remind myself of it too on a daily basis :)
Much more fun to drink a glass of wine and watch Netflix than do the ironing Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/06/2018 16:11

Everyone with A levels ready for the exam onslaught?
Just three this week for dd.

DS has given himself a day off revision. When he emerged from his room yesterday for dinner he looked like the walking dead. Lovely sunshine today has replenished the vitamin D and he is looking much more normal. He is a student at the school I work in (albeit for 3 more weeks!) and usually cadges a lift in the morning but tomorrow he is planning a lie in before the physics paper in the afternoon. I can’t imagine anyone being able to lie in on the morning their A levels start though!

Good luck to all DCs who have exams tomorrow. May your homes be blessed with plenty of sleep and calm atmospheres this evening!

UrsulaPandress · 03/06/2018 16:38

4 this week for DD. Psychology tomorrow then a free day on Tuesday before History on Wednesday.

She says that her brain is full.

LoniceraJaponica · 03/06/2018 16:45

4 here as well. 2 x geography 1 x chemistry and 1 x biology. Then one of each chem and bio next week, and one of each chem and bio the week after. Last exam on the 20th. I can't wait until it is over.

Nettleskeins · 03/06/2018 16:48

having an awful time with ds1 here. Luckily my focus on the others and their gsces so I don't have time to think about his progress or otherwise that much.

I am sitting here thinking Am I COMPLETELY MAD writing big A4 lists of themes with quotes and ideas for Othello, quotes and ideas that ds is resolutely REFUSING to look at. He just told me there was NO MAGIC in Othello, when I suggested he might think about the theme of magic. At the same time he is obviously incredibly stressed and doesn't know where to start despite my suggestion that he start at the beginning and read the School issue Revision Guide (not a published guide, a handbook the school put together for them in Sept)
At the same time he is wandering around declaiming speeches from the death scene and looking up Othello sources, and told me he is watching Henry IV part 2 later on, a form of procrastination I did not know existed..go further into the esoteric mire instead of sticking to the obvious.

Three days to go before Thursday, it should be possible to get a decent tranche of work done. [grrr]

I am trying to fast today, I had too much muesli last night and had terrible dreams about exams. No food till 7pm, although lots of cups of coffee and water.

Nettleskeins · 03/06/2018 16:51

Only I exam this week.
Two next week Tues and Fri
and then the coup de glace or is that coup de theatre or something (cherry on top?) Music after the weekend. So really not too fearful for anyone of moderate stamina..

HesMyLobster · 03/06/2018 17:24

DD1 only has one this week, then 2 the following week, then 4 the week after and that's it - finished!
Doesn't sound too bad at all like that.
That third week is going to be a tough one though.

I've been granted a few minutes break to make dinner then I'm back to the grindstone of History revision.
I thought I'd get a decent break while DD1 was at work earlier, but DD2 decided she needed me to test her on GCSE psychology. At least she can be persuaded to work in the garden.
DD1 apparently needs her desk 🙄

Thesearepearls · 03/06/2018 17:33

4 for DS this week - bit of a tough week for him, starting with Physics tomorrow.

Downeyhouse · 03/06/2018 17:36

Good luck to everyone’s kids for their exams this week.

Ds has a 4 hour English paper tomorrow, 3 hours of French on Tuesday and 2 maths papers on Thursday.

He will still has oral exams in French and English in late June but come Tomorrow will never have to analyse an unseen poem again much to his delight.

Am plying him with vitamins and healthy food as he has just got over a 4 week chest infection.

I wish you all a calm stress free evening and that all the dc get a good nights sleep.

TheDrsDocMartens · 03/06/2018 17:40

Starting written exams this week!

Been out to buy wine for her teachers /practice driving this afternoon for a break(!)

LoniceraJaponica · 03/06/2018 17:42

A 4 hour exam Shock
How come? Is it because he has been given extra time?
I don't think my bladder could stand it.

marmiteloversunite · 03/06/2018 17:48

My DD has two this week, History(Germany) and English Othello. So quote learning and dates going on here.

Three exams next week, English prose and poetry/ History (Italy).

Then last week Music and History (Britain)

Two and a half weeks!! Finish on 19th.

Have been and bought lots of comfort food and fruit/veg. Indulgent/sensible food shopping. Just shows where my head is at. All over the place!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL. LETS HOPE WE MAKE IT THROUGH TO THE OTHER SIDE TOGETHER!!

adrinkofwater · 03/06/2018 18:21

DD has 3 this week, chemistry, biology and maths (not sure which). At her school they are meant to keep going in to lessons until the exams are finished. We'll see how long that lasts. She's going in tomorrow - I think she just wants to see everyone!

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/06/2018 18:30

4 here this week. Physics tomorrow, chemistry Tuesday, maths (M3) Wednesday, physics Friday. She thinks she's pretty prepared but has a 2 hour physics revision lesson tomorrow, so it's worth going in for that.

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow's exams. Flowers

Downeyhouse · 03/06/2018 18:30

Lonicera - it is 4 hours without extra time! We are in Europe and he is doing the Bac not a levels.

They can use the loo one at a time but last time he was in pain and bursting for the loo but never got to go as they were too many people sitting on the «waiting to go to the loo» chairs! He was at the back of the hall and everytime a chair freed up one of eh students sat near the front grabbed it.

Today he is trying not to over drink and then not touch his water bottle until the last half Hour.

Is determined to not get caught in need of a pee again.

raspberryrippleicecream · 03/06/2018 18:33

DD has 2 this week, History on Wednesday and English Literature on Thursday. I spent over 2 hours going over Elizabeth 1st with her earlier.

Then she has 3 the following week and 2 the week after.

In the middle of it DS2 also has a major event which is stressful. Roll on June 22nd.

Good luck to everyone.

starfleet · 03/06/2018 18:59

Good Luck to all of your DC's.

First one for DS tomorrow morning is Geography. He has 2 on Tuesday, nothing Wednesday and one on both Thursday and Friday.

I have stocked up on Ben & Jerry's and cookies, it seems he is better fuelled with junk food right now!

NoHaudinMaWheest · 03/06/2018 19:05

downey that sounds unfair. Hope his strategy works and he doesn't get dehydrated instead.

Dd has physics on Monday, FP2 on Wednesday and Physics again on Friday which is her heaviest week. Extra time and rest breaks means all her exams are quite long but none as bad as History last year when she gave up though she hadn't quite finished because she was in so much pain from sitting so long.
