FantasyAndHope that looks nothing like an obese girl, did they weigh her? Necause I never trust BMI it takes no muscle or how much boob you have into account. My aunt finaly got a breast reduction at age 65, all of a sudden she's no longer obese but healthy bmi. Hope the test goes well Flowers

marmiteloversunite · 02/06/2018 09:29

Fantasy your daughter looks like a beautiful young lady. My girls are a similar shape as they are sporty and have muscles. We are all surrounded by images distorted into waif like elfin creatures that even as adults, subliminally, we do not see a healthy weight as normal. Wish I had her figure!

doistayordoigo · 02/06/2018 09:54

I'm here! Had to wait until this morning to reclaim the laptop, as both DSs are obviously still in bed. That's the trouble with half term...they grab it while I'm at work and then I can't get my hands on it!

Fantasy Very irresponsible to tell a young girl with a perfectly healthy body shape/size that they're obese! No wonder so many kids these days have issues with their weight if even the professionals are contributing to it.

Chocolate I'll never understand why people feel the need to take their problems out on staff in shops, but there are threads full of anecdotes on here...I suspect it makes them feel better to pick on people who they feel can't answer back. Hope your DD is okay.

Marmite Happy birthday for yesterday, hope you had an enjoyable day.

Feel like I've missed loads with all the chat about garages, worms etc...I am already stressing about who is going to catch the spiders when DS1 goes to uni...he's my chief spider catcher when DH is at work, as they always seem to come out when he's on a night shift and unable to pop back.

Re bank of Mum & Dad, my parents still occasionally help us out, even though we can stand on our own two feet really. They lent us some money to buy a car which we paid back over the following year, and have recently done the same so we could buy a caravan, again to be repaid over the year, so it's more helping with cashflow rather than just giving us money.

marmiteloversunite · 02/06/2018 10:20

Thanks Doistay! You need one of those spider catcher hoover things!!

This morning I have had the poetry quotes/Snapchat/revision technique. Perhaps we should design an app?HmmGrin

Icouldbeknitting · 02/06/2018 10:29

I am the spider catcher, always have been. I prefer the jam jar and postcard approach although in the autumn I sometimes have to find an ice cream tub. I will miss the child's useful height, the two step ladder will be seeing more action in future.

PandaG · 02/06/2018 10:42

Ds has physics on Monday too...I was testing him on astrophysics yesterday and frankly wasn't much use as I didn't understand the questions let alone the answers!

Marmite - kudos to your daughter for her ingenuity. Has she seen the Mr Brough videos on YouTube? He definitely has an inspector calls quote learning song, DD and I are word perfect on it!

LoniceraJaponica · 02/06/2018 10:48

Been testing DD on Hazards this morning (geography). She seems to have forgotten everything Sad

catslife · 02/06/2018 10:49

Signing in to join new thread. We have been away for a few days de-stressing at the caravan with limited internet.
Agree that your dd is not obese fantasy.
We don't have a garage either but there's a large brick workshop cum shed in our garden.
I also have a dd who has chosen a completely different A level path to my A level subjects. I have A levels in Physics. Chemistry, Maths (and General Studies) whereas she has chosen a more creative route.
Her A2 exam is this week (eek).

Hardwickwhite · 02/06/2018 10:51

Hello all! I’m back. First exam for DD is on Tuesday, and despite a very rocky few months she seems happy and confident.

Downeyhouse · 02/06/2018 11:00

Good luck to everyone for this big revision weekend.

At least we are in June and should all be more or less done by the end of the month.

Love the story of Marmite’s daughter dressing up to revise the roles.

This morning ds is revising Carol Ann Duffy poems. He is not a fan!!! And having read some I have to Agree. Lots of grumbling going on at the dining room table.

Off to do a good shop and stock up on treats for him.

Wishing you all a good Saturday.

MsAwesomeDragon · 02/06/2018 11:18

Dd is at work today, so no revision going on here til evening.

Dd doesn't do much in the way of spider catching, but she does clean (we pay her for this) so I'm going to miss having someone else clean the bathroom and kitchen :( I don't think dd2 is quite old enough to train up to do all of it yet, although I have got her trained to sweep the floors.

Nettleskeins · 02/06/2018 11:49

I've told both the gscers that the minute their exams end they are going to spend the next week deep cleaning and doing general maintenance on the house with me, it is depressingly filthy but I feel a bit like kittens dd in that if I start doing anything other than thinking about A levels/Gsce stuff I feel ill at ease.

I love spiders! I love their beautiful webs and the dew on them. There are meant to be no insects left but our garden is full of them, bumbling around. The birds and the bees would be in perfect harmony if it wasnt for the wretched cats climbing trees.

The MIL situation has worsened so it is difficult to concentrate on making plans at all. And all ds1's English Literature texts are sufficiently disturbing to further unbalance things. I am trying to focus on ds2's History Papers for GSCE as a nice tedious regular sort of rote learning.

Ds1 is in good form, playing Badminton with his brother, but obviously quite on edge under neath it all and trying not to admit it!

NoHaudinMaWheest · 02/06/2018 11:53

Joining the new thread thanks kitten.

Chocolate that is pretty horrible for your dd. Hope she wasn't too upset.

marmite that is a really creative way of revising from your dd. (Though I don't really understand why it is thought a good use of brain power to learn random quotes. Whole poems yes but little bits why?)

Dd is another one with physics on Monday.

likelyLilac · 02/06/2018 13:19

dd has an awful great habbit of making friends with spiders, in the room where she is currently revising there is a four inch spider in the corner which she has taken to calling beatrice, I can her move shes so big!
LoniceraJaponica try not to worry too much, as long as he understood it in the first place he'll probably start to remember it again quite quickly. I have always found that the brain has a wonderful ability to but information in storage, it takes a bit of prompting for it to unearth the memory.

likelyLilac · 02/06/2018 13:19

*awful

HesMyLobster · 02/06/2018 13:50

Wow! I go away for one day and there's a entire new thread!
Thankyou Kitten as always, and to Chocolate for the tag.
Just got back from a whole day and night of catching up with my oldest friends (the ones I was at 6th form with in fact) we went to a spa, had afternoon tea then cocktails then dinner and wine and more cocktails. I'm feeling thoroughly rejuvenated inside and out (if a little fuzzy headed!)

I do also feel a teeny bit guilty for going out and having fun while both DDs have been at home, chained to their desks, revising solidly . . . But it was so good to have a break from revision cards and textbooks!

Back to it today though - DD1 has finally declared all notes, mind maps and timelines on 100 years of American History finished, and all that's left is for me to quiz her repeatedly from her notes for the next 4 days (lucky me!) before the exam on Wednesday.
Then we get to move on to the Tudors who are far more interesting!

Loved all the talk of garages and worms - welcome all the little Georges!

I was almost feeling inspired to get my own wormery of tiny Georges until Kitten's squishy escape story put me off!

We do have a garage - obviously no cars in there though! It's currently filled with half built gym equipment that DH bought cheap from a bloke in the pub Hmm 2 years ago and has never quite got around to sorting out properly!

Ursula your garage is obviously the perfect revision refuge for you to go to when you need to escape Othello etc!

HesMyLobster · 02/06/2018 13:58

Chocolate that's awful, your poor DD - hope it wasn't too traumatic for her.
I only discovered the Visa problem when I tried to pay for petrol yesterday Blush
Luckily the nice petrol station man let me go and find an ATM and come back to pay.

Marmite your DD sounds brilliant, what a great idea. Definitely got to be an app idea there. My DD2 made up songs to learn all her quotes for Eng Lit and the science formulas. It's amazing how inventive DC can be.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 02/06/2018 13:58

Hi people. I haven't ventured on here since shortly after GCSEs as DS2 was taking a different route. He's completing his level 3 BTEC but with no great enthusiasm. He has ASD and no work ethic. It didn't help that he's been accepted on to an HNC course next year from his Y12 results so has no incentive to do well.

I hope your DC are all doing well and looking forward to that mythical time 'after the exams' and the next stage of their lives. I still have DS3 doing GCSEs and am hanging about on that very prolific thread.

HesMyLobster · 02/06/2018 14:03

Marmite belated Happy Birthday! Sorry I missed that - hope you had a lovely day Cake

Downey I think a system which takes 50% from class work over the years sounds like a much better idea.
I really hate that everything hangs on just a few exams - it's too much pressure.

TheThirdOfHerName · 02/06/2018 14:07
HesMyLobster · 02/06/2018 14:08

Hi Ellen nice to see you on here and to hear about your DS1, glad to hear he's got a secure next step sorted.
I can't keep up with the GCSE lot - they seem to fill a thread every day!

marmiteloversunite · 02/06/2018 14:13

Thank you Panda we will have a look at Mr Brought. Apparently this is how the new GCSE works that you just learn certain quotes rather than whole scenes/poems. Also with the memory/processing difficulties I think learning a whole poem would be incredibly hard.

DD1 is now revising in the sitting room after her bedroom disarray has hit critical mass! Hoping she doesn't do the same to the living room!

raspberryrippleicecream · 02/06/2018 14:19

Hi Ellen. I've just posted back on our DS1s uni thread. Hope your DS is doing ok.

Marmite I forgot to say Happy Birthday.

Lobster you have just nearly given me a heart attack. DD has Tudors this Wednesday and American History the week after. I have just got out her timetable and checked the component codes!

I also spend many hours with flashcards and am jealous you do the boring one first.

Our garage is full of bikes, bits of bikes, gardeing stuff, old beach toys under everything else and wine. The (large) garden shed has been taken over by DD.

I will not miss any tidying/cleaning done by DD in the autumn.

raspberryrippleicecream · 02/06/2018 14:22

Also Chocolate your poor DD. My DD was in Argos until recently, and she apparently single handedly ruined several Christmases by not ensuring all toys were still in stock the week before Christmas

NoHaudinMaWheest · 02/06/2018 14:25

Hi Ellen nice to see you. He finished that is a real achievement.
