Can you believe it? Shock

All welcome no matter which path your dc have chosen.

Oh dear. Predicted grade is lower than what he's been achieving recently! Still 2% of a sixth of the overall mark ( 6 papers in total) wouldn't have been much anyway!!!!

Sounds like a maths question in itself!!

derekthe1adyhamster · 13/06/2018 14:51

I think a doctor's note is submitted but I'm not really sure. At the school I work in, every single minor thing is put in as consideration, but as far as I know not much gets through

Gretol · 13/06/2018 15:18

dd has a doctors note about having confirmed glandular fever, hopefully she'll get something

same here derek her AS grade was lower than what she's been predicted :-D

I'm just glad she's got through at least one of the bloody things

UrsulaPandress · 13/06/2018 16:09

Italian History was so so. DD enjoyed the Source Question, but one of the other questions she hadn't got a clue about and thought they had been given the wrong paper! Turns out it was about the Republic of Salo, which DD reckons they only studied right at the end of the syllabus and if you blinked you missed it. A quick Wiki search and it looks quite interesting but it threw all of them.

She seems to have resigned herself to getting Bs at best so is considering going into clearing.

marmiteloversunite · 13/06/2018 16:29

Yes DD said nobody in her group did the Salo question. Tutor said that Edexcel loves to throw a curve ball! Source part was ok so I think she is relieved it is over and she managed to answer both questions.
Britain on Tuesday.

UrsulaPandress · 13/06/2018 16:57

Yes Tudors here on Tuesday which is DD's favourite. But she has Psychology in the morning and Poetry on Friday am.

Another long night............

raspberryrippleicecream · 13/06/2018 17:22

Funny how the boards are so different! History and English Lit now finished for DD. She says today's paper (American Dream) 'could have been worse' which I think is her most positive reaction so far.

Good luck to those still getting through them.

She is now turning her attention to Maths, M1 on Friday, C3 next Tuesday and C4 next Friday. Then she needs to pack for her trip to Italy with her friends.

HesMyLobster · 13/06/2018 17:48

DD has said History today (Wars of the Roses) was "alright" I'm hoping for more detail when she gets home from work.

Sorry to hear of all the unwell DC. It does make me wonder what we're doing to our poor kids, putting them through so much stress, no wonder they get ill.

That's 5 down and 5 to go for DD, I feel a Bon Jovi song coming on! Grin

Love the silly jokes Third, will ask DD if she has any ideas as she did that topic for her the first history paper.

I was almost feeling lost without the prospect of an evening of History flash cards to look forward to, but DD2 has just presented me with her GCSE Physics notes so that's that taken care of . . . 🙄

ifancyagreencard · 13/06/2018 17:52

Yes a more positive History paper for us (Angevin Kings). Pretty decent questions which meant that hard worked for knowledge got put down on paper. Spirits a little better! Poetry Friday, then we are done . . .

The post it notes that have been stuck all the way up the stairs since Easter have been taken down with relish Grin

Nettleskeins · 13/06/2018 18:18

ifancy that's it really "hardworked for knowledge got put down on paper"
glad all historians struggled through and survived with honour especially Fantasy's dd sounds like she was doing her absolute best. Fantasy if one paper has much lower marks, unis often use that as a indication that it was a blip compared to other papers' marks, so even if her overall grade is lower than she wants, ringing up on results day and pointing out discrepancy will help I think. Just so she doesn't give up and feel there is no hope.

These exams are really hard. There has been no AS to count towards the final grade only in the last two years. Universities are using a tariff that they set in the days when the exams were modular. Everyone is suffering the same disadvantage and I think that is why the grades that you actually need to get in with on results day are going to be lower than everyone thinks, and compared to grades needed in previous years. Also combined with expansion of places. [sorry if that doesn't make sense to statisticians, it is just that yes there are going to places filled with students who get a A and 2 Bs on certain courses, but there are also going to be students on the same course with 3Bs or 2Bs and C, because exams are not an exact science for judging ability and academic commitment in some instances - that was directed at the students who are worried they are only going to get Bs or get C instead of B for an important subject) TWO Years of work are being tested compared to one year previously, and that was just two years ago that the A levels were reformed, we don't know that many people who have experienced this new system.

Republic of Salo sounds interesting.Shock As does the Angevin Kings [who they???]

lobster I know what you mean about feeling at a loss. A friend who is an actress says that after a show you don't actually want to go home and collapse you want to do something else exciting to wind down. I'm not sure whether Physics counts in that category though. I daren't even look at the kids' physics revision. Chemistry seems to have gone pretty well, although unfortunately it was one of those papers that everyone said they liked..so, higher grade boundaries prob. I'm not getting "incomprehension" or "tears" over the physics [higher] but nor am I getting the zing that committed scientists might emit when revising Hmm

LoniceraJaponica · 13/06/2018 18:28

How did your DD get on today Fantasy?
I have been sending her get well and good luck vibes all day.

Downeyhouse · 13/06/2018 19:03

Your poor daughter Fantasy. Hope she managed ok.

:(

Ds has geography tomorrow - needs a high grade as is hoping to do it at Uni. Is in panic mode tonight for the first time during these exams due to the sheer quantity. Exam is in French (he is in a bilingual programme) and it makes it harder to learn.

They only do one paper so it is a one shot attempt.

Roll in tomorrow night as it is the last written exam and then we have a 10 hiatus until his 3 oral exams.

Downeyhouse · 13/06/2018 19:03

10 day hiatus that should read

littledrummergirl · 13/06/2018 21:48

No exams for ds1 today so he's had a nice day revising. I know his school has asked for some special consideration for the pupils in both GCSE and A levels as very sadly one of the teachers passed away a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure if I should let the schools know about our house fire and current building site or not- I don't know if it would be considered.
Maybe I should check.

Physics tomorrow for ds1 and food science for ds2. Both boys have headed to bed already.

LoniceraJaponica · 13/06/2018 21:51

DD has done very little revision today. Her next exam is on Monday, and she went into town this morning with a friend, who came back with her to do some biology revision. Very little got done though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/06/2018 21:55

It's worth a check LDG.

Physics tomorrow. Then it's just lots of maths left.

OP posts:
TheThirdOfHerName · 13/06/2018 22:03

Mao's China has always been DS1's strongest paper, but he said today's exam was harder than he was expecting. The only consolation is that he thinks it will have been harder for everyone.

U.S. Politics tomorrow, then he gets a (much-needed) break for a few days.

I'm actually quite relieved that he has managed to go to every exam so far, has stayed for the whole time and has attempted every question, none of which were a given.

MrSlant · 13/06/2018 22:06

It's weird out here. I tried to send the DS' to do some revision before they went into town and got A Look. My crazy was showing a tiny bit before now OYBBK but I fear it's now out and proud. I hate the lack of routine!

Nettleskeins · 13/06/2018 22:18

well Third there are quite a lot of Mr President jokes you could make tomorrow Smile
actually I've thought of one for the Angevin Kings too in the meantime
MrSlant I am crying with laughter at the thought of you sending your dses to do revision now that its all over ..Grin our children know our true craziness but forgive us!

lashingsofgingerbeer · 13/06/2018 23:08

Busy day on here! Hope all DC are ok after today's exam rounds! Kitten 10 exams left to do Shock We are in the home strait now with Geography tomorrow & then Biology on Monday & to say I cannot wait is an understatement!

Nettles I think you're right that there will be some Uni/course grade dropping after results come out, especially now there's more fluidity on Uni intake numbers.

Fantasy hope DD ok tonight. Is she going to be tested for endo after the exams are finished - pain does sound similar.

I think crazy Mum humour/jokes with revision & just as dropping off is very much to be encouraged! My DD has remembered many a fact thanks to that device Grin

Counting down!

Downeyhouse · 14/06/2018 05:41

Just got up and ds told me he has been up since 4.00 and only went to bed at 12:30!!!

Is currently reivising European agricultural policy 😱

He has a slightly mad look in his eye fueled by coffee, lack of sleep and adrenaline!

He plans on coming home after the exam, sleeping all afternoon and reappearing for the World Cup.

I hope everyone sitting Exams today gets the questions they want.

GnomeDePlume · 14/06/2018 05:53

Best wishes to all. Physics today. DD2 happily said that after this she was 'done with physics' until DH pointed out her degree course is Chemical Physics so there might be a bit more physics. Apparently that's different!

M2 tomorrow.

Downeyhouse · 14/06/2018 05:58

That made me smile Gnome.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/06/2018 06:05

Morning all. Physics here too. Managed to sleep 11-5. Can't wait til Saturday.

OP posts:
UrsulaPandress · 14/06/2018 06:21

I managed until 5.30. Go me.

Good luck for today everyone.
