Good Luck for Physics!
Gnome love that!

Ursula, I can imagine you sitting on the sofa in pjs bleary eyed and weakly waving pom poms Grin

Another sodding breakfast cooked.

Kitten I really love your cooked breakfast tradition. I almost contemplated doing the same here, but Just never quite managed it.
I'm so glad I didn't start it now! Grin
Especially with DD2 doing GCSEs too - I'd feel like a chef in a greasy spoon by now!

Icouldbeknitting · 14/06/2018 07:20

I have the sausages in the freezer. I forgot to get them out for the recent exam and he didn't notice so I managed to get away with that. With a reminder from Alexa (who has been running the house this year) I should do better on Monday. I have just thought that this will be the last chance I get, he'll be away for future exams.

UrsulaPandress · 14/06/2018 07:24

Nah. I lie in bed waiting for my early morning brew delivered by DH.

Fortunately dd has demanded Danish Pastries for breakfast before exams. I only had to muster a veggie bacon butty on the one day I'd failed to shop.

I do have to deliver and collect her from school for each exam as she says driving and finding a parking space would be too stressful. And I have to collect her with cake and coffee at the ready. Although thoughts of her holiday have resulted in 'no cake today' Mum.

Icouldbeknitting · 14/06/2018 07:43

I also have to deliver to and from college on exam days. There was a day recently where the college bus, the one that only runs to college and collects at the same stop every single day, sailed past the bus stop. DS didn't have an exam that day but his two friends did. My first thought was to make him go on the bus as normal but my second thought was to avoid extra stress at all costs, suck it up and get the car out.

I would like a danish pastry now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/06/2018 08:05

I can imagine dd sitting the morning of her first uni exam wondering where her cooked breakfast is Grin

I don't really mind, it's just a bit knackering. Sausage sandwich today. I think if I had to do it for a GCSE student simultaneously we would all be round as houses.

Icouldbeknitting · 14/06/2018 08:12

It is not an exam day but I've defrosted the sausages he didn't get on Wednesday. I have plenty of time this morning as he's not going in until lunchtime.

I have just checked (I'm sure that he hasn't) and the assessment for his chosen course is 9% exams, 28% coursework and 63% practical so he wouldn't be needing much in the way of cooked exam breakfasts in future.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/06/2018 08:15

That's nice knitting, lovely breakfast!

dd is celebrating the idea that she will have no more practicals ever. I don't think she liked them very much.

raspberryrippleicecream · 14/06/2018 08:45

Ursula snap. I get a brew every morning too. Cooked breakfast is a tradition here, but DH is in charge. DS2 starts 2 weeks of end of year exams on Monday and is angling for the same. (16 exams in 10 days - good practice for next year!)

Kitten DS1 is doing Theoretical Physics at uni, he celebrated finishing practicals at the end of his 1st year. He's all about the Maths!

Good luck to exam people today. We have a stressful event of a different nature with DS2 but at least it's a change

NoHaudinMaWheest · 14/06/2018 09:33

Dd has physics too. She is really down about it and said last night that I wasn't being sufficiently encouraging. I know absolutely nothing about physics as I haven't done it since I was 14 so it is hard to assess how she is doing.

flatmouse · 14/06/2018 09:57

Cooked bfast for exam takers a tradition here too (even do for mocks). However may have to adjust as DD to do GCSEs next year and I'm not sure i could do that volume!! (Fortunately she's more of a pain au choc girl). Poached egg on toast for DS before DH drove him in for Psychology 3.
He went into college yesterday and had a good 4hr session with psychology teachers. (shame he wasn't aware of option to do that before paper1 and paper2, as apparently they focused on topics they predicted would be included and were 100% right!).
Good luck to all taking exams today - @Fantasy, hope DD feeling better.

flatmouse · 14/06/2018 09:58

Oh, and if he gets on to course he wants at Uni, it is 100% marked assessments and coursework so no worries about pre-exam breakfasts!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/06/2018 10:02

Hooray for your ds1 Raspberry Grin

NoHaudin I hope your dd does ok today and it's not as bad as she fears. Good luck to your dd too flatmouse.

Lurking from the other side with mrslant as well. Part of dds strategy for choosing A level subjects was limiting the number of exams - she had a quite high coursework load though! It also helped that 2 subjects are unreformed so the AS levels from last year count towards the final results.
Am seeing it from the other side too as have been invigilating GCSEs - just Physics to go and then I am finished too. The school where I work is Y7-Y11 only so haven't seem students taking the new A levels but the new GCSEs do seem significantly harder for some subjects.
I suspect grade boundaries for both GCSEs and A levels will be slightly lower this year for the new linear qualifications so try not to panic folks.
Hope todays exams go well and that some dcs - thinking especially of knitting and fantasy and derek have a much better day today.

TheThirdOfHerName · 14/06/2018 11:08

Penultimate A-level exam today!

flatmouse · 14/06/2018 11:24

Psychology 3 was better than he thought it would be. I'm taking that as a positive!! He's heading home to re-fuel and then hopefully buckle down on Rome revision for exam tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/06/2018 11:32

I am very jealous of the finisheds and nearly finisheds Envy

Bad kitten - me too. Dc2 finishes GCSEs tomorrow(yippee), but dc 1 has one exam tomorrow, and three next week, the last being Friday. A whole week to go.

Nettleskeins · 14/06/2018 11:57

I do a lot of cooked breakfasts already even before exams. I usually make ds all manner of health giving repasts, only to be blotted out by the junk food he eats the rest of the day to and from school. During exams he says food makes him feel sick, so then usually I just bring him a plate consisting of a piece of fruit a slice of toast and a glass of water. Ds gets breakfast in bed usually, it is the only way to get him to wake up. Dd gets her breakfast prepared too, and ds2. Usually they have porridge. dd likes it all laid out ready and then she is on autopilot for the morning bus/tube which takes about 50 minutes.

When I was a girl ["when I was a girl" Hmm ] breakfast was the best time of the day. I used to sit and chat with my parents and their friends (if they were staying)in the holidays and termtime (my parents were self employed) It was a very sociable meal. But I've heard since that many people find breakfast best taken in solitude, my children seem to fall into both categories! I remember my uncle by marriage being appalled that my father wanted to discuss politics at breakfast instead of silently reading the paper as all normal people should!

Icouldbeknitting · 14/06/2018 11:58

For anyone who has previously relied on travel insurance packaged with their bank account, you might want to check the coverage on dependent children. Mine covers DS whilst in FTE up to age 23 but only whilst travelling with me.

(This post is provided as a distraction to those in the thick of exams)

starfleet · 14/06/2018 12:04

knitting mine is the same. I have had to sort DS's out for him as it was another thing that was hanging around on the 'to do' list for ages. I found one that does an add on for gadget cover so his mobile is insured too.

Last Geography paper for him this afternoon. 4 next week and then he is done. Good Luck to all with exams today.

Hardwickwhite · 14/06/2018 12:07

No exams for DD1 or DD2 today, and both DH and I are working at home. It is very, very odd!

DD2 was up, dressed and watching a physics revision video by 9am. DD1 didn't surface till 10, but still looks like she has been up all night. I hope she was watching fluffy kitten videos online, and not trawling TSR for evidence that she has messed up her exams so far.
