If I'm able to, I drop DS1 off at school for exams. As he is getting out of the car, I try to come up with a relevant (not necessarily good) joke or pun to make him smile.

This morning, as he was going to China: 1949-1976...
Me: "M [Dcat] gave me a message to give to you before you go into the exam."
DS1:
Me: "Mao"

Oh no Ursula! DD has tutor last night. She was reminded not to forget the simple points which sometimes they skip over. Also that there are a lot of similarities between Germany and Italy history.

UrsulaPandress · 13/06/2018 12:06

You have a tutor!!!!

Eek.

marmiteloversunite · 13/06/2018 12:15

Her mock was so disastrous we needed one. There was no way she was going to pass!

Nettleskeins · 13/06/2018 12:16

I've had a long walk with relatives. Too hot, and too many leaves

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/06/2018 12:54

Thank you Kitten

It's almost become a competition with myself to see how bad my puns can get.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/06/2018 13:03

Good game good game!

I have just under 24h to come up with a feeble pun about the U.S. system of government.

TheThirdOfHerName · 13/06/2018 13:16

Maybe something about only reading the Constitution for the articles...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/06/2018 13:19

Don't forget to represent yourself.....

Dd is RS Monday gret

Passed out again this morning, shes just rang to say she feels written light headed and not well. She will be going to her exam in about 25 minutes
Anyone know what happens when they state their ill in the exam?

TheThirdOfHerName · 13/06/2018 13:30

F&H at the school where I work, if a candidate needs to leave in the middle of the exam to lie down for a bit, they make a note of what time she leaves and keep her under supervision. When she is feeling well enough to resume the exam, they make a note of what time she returns and add the time she was out of the room on to the end of the exam.

FantasyAndHope · 13/06/2018 13:33

name
Thankyou. Dd is in tears heartbroken but feels so weak her arms and legs feel like jelly

ifancyagreencard · 13/06/2018 13:56

fantasy fingers crossed for your poor DD, thinking of her. I suffered similarly as a teen and hit the deck regularly thanks to periods from hell. I really hope they find a way to help soon and that she gets through today.

Yes, we are OCR English and AQA History (I think!). DD is in History as we speak . . .she so needs a "good" exam to boost her spirits. It's sort of comforting (albeit such a shame) to hear that others are finding they don't think they are doing justice to the last 2 years' efforts and sodding hours of revision either.

TheThird - I've been doing the same! Googling crappy jokes and texting / emailing them to her before each exam. Stalin and Dorian Gray were easy - today's History is a bit more off piste and required the intervention of my super intellectual neighbour (as Google was bloody useless).

Gretol · 13/06/2018 14:06

fantasy dd has glandular fever. She was told if she felt ill she would be supervised while she rested and then allowed to continue. Luckily she's been absolutely fine during the exams (well her first one was a shock to the system and she cried a lot after, but the others have been much better!)

She also has a notice of consideration for her exams (i believe you can get this up to a month or so after A levels but I may be wrong)

LoniceraJaponica · 13/06/2018 14:23

Oh no Fantasy Flowers for both of you. What awful timing.

I found out today that someone set the fire alarm off at DD's school yesterday. Fortunately it was between exams. The school discovered it was a prank and have passed on the fine from the fire brigade/police to the boy's parents.

ifancyagreencard · 13/06/2018 14:26

Fire alarm went off (not a prank but a false alarm) at DD's school on the first flipping day. 30 mins into Geog. Apparently a note will be sent in with the papers . . .

derekthe1adyhamster · 13/06/2018 14:40

Another one asking for consideration after today's exams maths S2. DS had a migraine
TBH I can't imagine doing a maths paper full stop. Let alone with a migraine. Apparently it's worth about 2% extra.....

Gretol · 13/06/2018 14:42

I don't think it guarantees any extra marks derek

I think they look at predicted grades and AS results and if they are a fraction off then they might change it up

LoniceraJaponica · 13/06/2018 14:43

Oh dear hamster. I hope they do allow extenuating circumstances for your DS. It seems likeall the stress is accumulating and making so many tired and overworked students ill.

DaffoDeffo · 13/06/2018 14:43

dd is also doing China in History now. She has 3 left after this one. This one is one of her favourites so I am really crossing fingers it goes well as she didn't do as well in History coursework as she hoped

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/06/2018 14:45

what a rotten day for people. Sorry to hear that Derek and Fantasy.

OP posts:
DaffoDeffo · 13/06/2018 14:47

who decides if they get it or not (consideration)? I am guessing it is the school

dd won't get for her sickness bug (even though tbh it wiped out 3 days before her 1st exam and then she spent the 1st exam being convinced she was going to vomit!)
