Raspberry good to hear your DD is moving on by concentrating on the next set of exams and wish her the best of luck.

Porridge for brekkie at the ready for Biology tomorrow - don't begrudge her the request for a teaspoon of sugar in it right now - whatever it takes!! Good luck for tomorrow's exam sitters.

FantasyAndHope · 06/06/2018 19:18

Thanks to all!
I’ve rang school and said this isn’t fair on dd! It’s the crappy head of sixth form! He’s terrible!
I’m truly so angry!
Dd said history was hard and not what anyone expected. Questions were not straight forward and were complex she’s seen her history teacher who said she panicked and it looked hard
raspberry
Dd said her structure was shocking

marmiteloversunite · 06/06/2018 19:52

DD thought that History was ok. She liked the questions except one on economics so it was quite a good start for her. I am sorry that the other Historians weren't happy. DD has Italy next week which is her weakest subject in History so we will see how that goes.

English Lit tomorrow. Othello/Streetcar. She is writing flash cards from her notes and practising quotes.

UrsulaPandress · 06/06/2018 20:00

Same here marmite

TheThirdOfHerName · 06/06/2018 20:02

DS1 also has English Lit tomorrow.
Measure for Measure
Merchant's Tale and Prologue
Some other text(s)?

adrinkofwater · 06/06/2018 20:06

DD found M1 hard this morning. Turns out she couldn't do the 1st question, but fortunately she remained calm and carried on! She said there were 3 she didn't know how to do. But she has moved on and been revising biology for tomorrow.

FantasyAndHope · 06/06/2018 20:07

Dd is English tomorrow
Twelfth night
Ibsen a doll’s house
Rossetti

catslife · 06/06/2018 20:20

Creative writing A2 tomorrow morning for dd.
I am invigilating GCSE Maths Paper 2.
The school is doing a lot to support dcs with additional needs including eye infections, broken arms etc so fantasy agree that your dds school should be doing more to support her.
Feel sorry for parents who have dcs taking both GCSEs and A levels at the same time. My DB has 6 dcs but very spaced out with some teenagers, some at primary and youngest yet to start school. They live abroad in a country where exams taken at 16 aren't as significant as GCSEs.

Nettleskeins · 06/06/2018 20:31

Marmite Othello and Streetcar here tomorrow too.

@MrSlant...how are you managing?? In case you are out there. Best wishes for your dses.

GnomeDePlume · 06/06/2018 20:39

FP2 here. DD2 felt it was okay.

I do wonder if schools sometimes don't want to call attention to themselves with requests for special consideration. Last year DD2 was very distracted by invigilators doing an impression of the Chuckle Brothers messing around opening and closing windows all the while discussing anything and everything in stage whispers.

DD2 raised it with the exams manager but ultimately to no avail. On the plus side the particular invigilators were never seen again (probably still chained upside down in the exam manager's dungeon!).

raspberryrippleicecream · 06/06/2018 20:43

I think it's Measure for Measure and The Handmaid's Tale here.

DD's English teacher was most impressed I'd read Handmaid when it was first published. I did try not to think she may not have been born then! I've been taking the new season to watch after exams.

I've caught up on the thread properly now.

I'm so sorry Lonicera and Nettleskeins about your Mils.

And Fantasy it's ridiculous they can't do anything to help your DD.

TheThirdOfHerName · 06/06/2018 20:47

DS1's third text is She Stoops to Conquer.

He doesn't know any quotes, but to be honest he would struggle even it it were an open book exam.

He doesn't want to sit the exam. I'm trying to persuade him that an E would be better than a U. He managed to get 50% on the coursework, so a D might be within his reach if the second paper goes well. But he does actually need to sit the first paper and attempt to write something.

marmiteloversunite · 06/06/2018 21:00

Just got in a panic thinking DD was revising wrong things for English listening to you guys. She has Rosetti and Handmaids tale in papers two and three. Phew

Nettleskeins · 06/06/2018 21:12

that's odd all ds1's English are Open Book. I hope he hasn't got that wrong, as he knows no quotes except irrelevant ones.

Third tell your ds1 that my ds1 also is feeling very wary of tomorrow's paper.

You can also tell him that my daughter today went in to her Geography GSCE and did a extended mark question on the strength of a random question she happened to ask someone just a minute before she went in..Like what's Secondary Data?.

Any quotes will help. Five is better than nothing.

Another morning of this tomorrow, but I am relieved he has another lie in tbh. I don't think he would sleep a wink otherwise.

Nettleskeins · 06/06/2018 21:15

Us too Marmite how odd!
And do you have Frankenstein too....[begins to wonder if Marmite's dd is the brilliant student in ds's Music Class of which there are only two other people]

MrSlant · 06/06/2018 21:16

Nettleskins thank's for the reminder, I quite like this atting business.

Sorry to have been so absent but I was actually studying for my Linux professional accreditation exam (and passing!) which took all my brain for a while. Feel a bit like we are cheating at A levels as DS1 only has three exams, although that fills me with fear because there's not a lot of wriggle room or alternative routes to get his points. His IT exam went really well and he thinks he probably got full marks for the first section as it all worked perfectly and he spotted the hidden twist. Who knows with biology, I have NO idea how he will do at all now. DS2 is nearly at the end, happy with the exams he needs (wants to do maths, further maths, physics and chemistry next term) not so happy about all the stupid wordy ones Grin. DS3 is madly busy with all the things they have to fit in for the last term of primary and is growing up and I wish he'd just stop it! Forced them all down the beach for a couple of hours this afternoon and it was bliss. Eldest two dug holes in the sand and were silly which was perfect.

So sorry for bad news about your Mils nettles and Lonicera, the DS' uncle has been very unwell for a number of years and he became desperately unwell the Friday before exams started. I was upset but also in the back of my mind had a "don't you dare, not right now" moment which I was deeply ashamed of but it's such a hard and precious time for them all right now, they all deserve the smoothest ride possible.

Nettleskeins · 06/06/2018 21:23

Last term of primary..we had whole year musicals in Year 6 summer after SATs. My kids were in heaven but some children were desperately bored. And the last sportsday too was very emotional. And the school fete too. But that's all not for another month of course, I love the fact that secondary will be over so much sooner than the usual term (it did go on forever didn't it, but it was sort of idyllic looking back [lookingback]

marmiteloversunite · 06/06/2018 21:33

Nettles yes we have Frankenstein too! DD goes to al all girls school so unless there is something he's not telling you then probably not the same school!Grin

GnomeDePlume · 06/06/2018 21:37

Nettleskeins when DD2 finishes that will end an 11 year association with the secondary school. I remember doing a bit of a happy dance when she finished primary. She still has another 5 years at uni ahead of her so we will still be thinking of years starting in September for the foreseeable future.

Petalflowers · 06/06/2018 21:38

Just checked with dc. He did M1as well. He wasn't keen On it, saying the papers a few years ago were easier than the more recent ones.

MrSlant · 06/06/2018 21:51

Nettles they have a leavers assembly as well as the music stuff and sports day. DS2's they all stood on stage and sang "Wish me well as you wave me goodbye" (WWII theme that term) waving as the rest of the school filed out and I still well up thinking about it Grin. Last one will be the undoing of me. Oh boy, last sports day, last days in school (already done for older two), leavers proms, leavers hoodies, everything I do is 'last' or 'leavers' at the moment. Too much!

DS1 was cheerily talking about it being weird that 'we' were finishing with his secondary when I pointed out I still had another 7 years of it. He's still laughing at me now.

raspberryrippleicecream · 06/06/2018 21:55

To be fair re the books, I know the 2 I mentioned are involved, but not sure how it all fits. Rebecca and Jane Eyre were in somewhere, but I'm not sure if one of them was just for AS last year. DD is open book too

I've had a very strange evening not doing flash cards, though I did do some French vocab with Y10 DS.

Congratulations MrSlant

TheThirdOfHerName · 06/06/2018 22:04

Thank you Nettleskeins
Even if he writes half a page, that's still something.

LoniceraJaponica · 06/06/2018 22:33

Good luck for everyone's DC tomorrow. Biology for DD.
I feel in a minority because DD isn't doing maths or English lit, although she would have absolutey hated them and struggled with both of them.

HesMyLobster · 06/06/2018 22:33

Raspberry my evening has been strangely empty of flash cards too! Grin
I can't remember the last time I got to just eat dinner then watch tv.
DD tells me not to worry - she'll have a whole new set on War of the Roses for me to start on tomorrow night!
She's been in good spirits this evening - relief I think that the first one is done and the world didn't end. Hopefully that's the end of her negative spiral.

MrSlant loving hearing all about the end of primary stuff - lots of lovely memories.

Huge good luck and positive vibes to all the English DC for tomorrow.
