Mumsnet Village Show - An Afternoon Tea Tray for One

So here we are again.

So far the rules are:

Tea tray for one

Can include anything you want suitable for a summer high tea (sandwiches, scones, cake, biscuits etc) with suitable cutlery and crockery and the like. (Silver service if you are terribly posh)

Five quid budget (on top of what you already have in your larder).

SlightlyMadScientist is the judge (heaven help us...is she properly qualified???)

Oh and all entries will be anonymous this time (A, B, C etc).

Time limit is 9pm next sunday so we can be judged before bed time.

The rules will obviously be bent or completely ignored but so long as its tea ish then anything goes.

How posh are you that Waitrose is closer than tesco?

My neighbour shops in waitrose. In Aberystwyth. Its like, at least 2 hours away!

Nutter. Tescos is 15 minutes, asda and sainsburys 20.

Peachy · 03/07/2007 11:56

Just realised he's doubly thick as there are several closer (still goodly drive away though)

Sweet, but daft man!

LennyLapin · 03/07/2007 11:59

Waitrose - 2 mins by car, 10 on foot

I just looked up supermarkets in Portsmouth and there IS a Tesco! Blimey, only lived here 2 years . I only knew about the big megastore one. I might have to go and have a look, DH was only chuntering last night about the vast amount we spend in Waitrose .

Peachy · 03/07/2007 12:00

LOL

We'd been here six momths before we discoverd Cwmbran!

You know, like great bug town with a huge shopping centre six miles away

LOL

Slubberdegullion · 03/07/2007 13:22

So what's on this weekend? Or should we have a little pause until the school holidays?

I have a very busy weekend ahead: parents in law, birthday parties, church fun day . So I could do something bog standard (like a loaf of bread...ha ha she talks from complete ignorance never having made it before but assumes it's a piece of piss), or I could judge. Or something else.

Oh I don't know. Just having a little chat with myself here now.

Why wont dd2 go to sleep, why why why why? She is sooooooooooo tired.

Oh and weekend after this one is the show so will have to refocus all energies on VSC.

Why is it still raining here? How come I have a spot? Why did I have such a revolting sandwich for lunch?

Slubberdegullion · 03/07/2007 13:25

OP posts:
LennyLapin · 03/07/2007 13:26

Slubberdegullion · 03/07/2007 13:27

Not good with numbers. Or reverse parking. Or playing sports with fast moving objects (tennis, squash, badminton etc)

You don't like balls flying at your face?

Slubberdegullion · 03/07/2007 13:30

No, of any variety. I start flailing around and ducking instictivly.

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 03/07/2007 13:31

Instinctively maybe?

Bloody spelling (that was never that crash hot in the first place) is also going a bit wobbly.

i like soduko.
I have had waitrose shopping delivred. have to say if was the best I've ever had. The food comes in different coloured bags for sorting. Blue for freezer. Green for fruit and veg etc. I am
I am debating why my eyes are so itchy today? Why the cat keeps catching birds? Why my ironing pile won't reduce? Why are my boys so noisy? Why is my husband asleep on settee? What shall i cook for tea? have I got time for a run before dh goes to football at 6.45? and why the sun is out while it rains in the rest of the country? See I am wondering about lots of things too...

Peachy · 03/07/2007 17:41

Ah we cant even have it elivered- you'd think we live in the sticks, we're a few miles out from Newport and 10 from Cardiff LOL!

Never mind eh? we do get riverford, we didnt use to get that back home (they do now iirc)

Bleedin raining here- torrents last night, fortunately we live up whe hill so if the river did break we would be OK. Bet Mum's gettting worrid( downhill from the river that feeds the SOmerset levels)

Ironing? ah yes. Something I used to do, but Dh took the dratted iron apart for the bits he needed for his elecrronics

My boys quite quiet today Tig- must have swapped kids!

TigiCupCakes · 03/07/2007 18:53

we don't have a waitrose anywhere nearby, but they still delivered! Used a free delivery voucher.
my boys still in garden, in sandpit. I dread to think what colour they are! Need 5 yo in bed, then 7 yo to do spellings. 12 yo mooching about. How old are your boys peachy?

Slubberdegullion · 03/07/2007 19:22

ahem, ladies...we seem to have wandered off track here (in a very realistic WI manner I'm sure) but are we doing a comp this weekend?

Or leaving it for a bit?

Or disbanding altogether (no please no)?

Previous ideas for comps are:
Bread
Sandwiches
Vegetable carving
Fun salads
Cress
Flowers
Big/Funny or just plain vegetables
Minature Gardens
Evening Knitwear
Chocolate cake
Sunflowers (not yet obviously as mine is 6 inches tall)

So what do we think?

Opens debate to the rest of the long table.

Stewed tea anyone?

OP posts:
TigiCupCakes · 03/07/2007 19:38

you are having a laugh about the evening knitwear, aren't you???!!!!

TigiCupCakes · 03/07/2007 19:40

goes off at a tangent warbling in best operatic voice...

...And did those feet in ancient time

Walk upon England?s mountains green:

And was the holy Lamb of God

On England?s pleasant pastures seen!

And did the countenance divine

Shine forth upon our clouded hills?

And was Jerusalem builded here,

Among these dark satanic mills?

Bring me my Bow of burning gold:

Bring me my Arrows of desire:

Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!

Bring me my Chariot of fire!

I will not cease from Mental Fight,

Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand:

Till we have built Jerusalem,

In England?s green & pleasant Land.

Daemara · 03/07/2007 20:00
