I don't plan a specific meal for each day unless there's a particular reason to (guests, busy evening, etc); I just write a list of meals for the week and decide which one I'm doing on the day/day before.

This week will involve:
home made pizzas
Cajun salmon
jacket potatoes
rack of lamb
tuna bake
Quorn meatballs & spaghetti

  • all with veg, and rice/couscous/potatoes etc if needed

Please share your plan ......

Guacamole- could you point me in the direction of your Moroccan chicken? It sounds good!

This week:
Pasta with tomato and balsamic sauce and garlic bread
Salmon and cous cous salas
Lamb chops with sweet potato and salad
Lasagne with salad
Pork with a honey mustard glaze and mash with purple sprouting broccoli and carrots

Guacamole · 06/03/2011 20:36

This is the Moroccan chicken I do...
Moroccan chicken
However, I don't use preserved lemons, I use lemon juice. And I don't make the dipping sauce.
I serve it with Cous Cous (Aynsley Harriet Moroccan one), toasted pitta bread, roasted red peppers and Caramelised Onion Houmous.

pipplin · 06/03/2011 20:54

Thank you, will be trying that one. Will be serving it with your suggestions :)

8y DD chose our meals this week:

  • Fishcakes with a cheese sauce and green veg (from Hairy Bikers)
  • Cottage pie with cheese mash (Hairy Bikers recipe)
  • Spagetti carbonara (another Hairy Bikers recipe)
  • Mushroom curry - using a Hares Moor korma kit
  • Pancakes for dessert on Tuesday

Friends coming on Friday evening and I am still deciding on what to cook.
I never menu plan weekends.

IlsaLund · 06/03/2011 21:21

Today: Roast Chicken & trimmings
Monday: Chicken, leek and mushroom risotto
Tuesday: Meatballs and spaghetti
Wednesday: Chilli and rice
Thursday: Jacket potatoes & filling (probably cheese and coleslaw)
Friday: Shepherds pie

franch · 06/03/2011 21:40

hula, which hairy bikers book do you recommend?

I'd like to let my DDs choose the menu for the week, but fear it'd be:
Pizza
Burgers
Fish fingers ... etc.

Do you give her any parameters? I might hand my DDs a favourite cookbook to choose out of, that might work if they can get any further than the puds chapter.

I have the Mums Know Best one

Hulababy · 06/03/2011 22:10

Franch - DD grabs one of the cookbooks and choses from there. She loves cooking and loves her food, and I have been suprised, pleasantly, of what she actually chooses.

HannahHack · 07/03/2011 13:23

Haddock goujons and pot weges
PANCAKES
Potato and onion welsh cake
Pasta and tom sauce
Spinach and chickpea curry and dhal
Bolegnese
Beef pie

AbsDuCroissant · 07/03/2011 13:41

Sunday: we had steak with fried mushrooms and courgette, and grilled asparagus
Monday: roasted vegetables tart thingy (roast vegetables, roll out ready-made puff pastry, shove vegetables on top, shove in oven for abou 10 minutes. Serve. You can make it more quichey by mixing 1 egg to every 125 mls of cream - I use soya cream in a vague nod to low fat - mix together, and pour in)
For the rest of the week, (apart from Friday - going to someone's for dinner, and saturday we usually just have snacks and mojitoes Blush) we have butternut, courgettes and chicken to use. We're trying to be low-carby and healthy at the moment.

BirdyBedtime · 07/03/2011 13:59

Sunday - friends coming round so making a big macaroni cheese with roast chorizo and roast veg

BirdyBedtime · 07/03/2011 14:00

Just to clarify - friends with kids coming for lunch on Sunday - I remember a thread when someone had been given mac and cheese for dinner at someone's house which generated much discussion so just wanted to be clear!

funtime tis good isn't it? we have deliveries from a butcher and he brings me a huge pack of gammon steaks that do me and DP 2 greedy meals for £2, which i think is a bargain!

funtimewincies · 07/03/2011 16:27

Gammon might have to go on the plan for next week Grin!

MummyBerryJuice · 07/03/2011 16:39

Hmmm. Gammon steaks. Yummy!

I do a lamb hotpot in the slow cooker which is delicious, just bang it under the grill for 15 minutes or so to crisp the top layer of potatoes before eating, while cooking the veg.

Also lamb shanks are great in the slow cooker.

I got a great slow-cooker curry recipe book out from the library a few weeks ago but didn't manage to cook any of them Blush

I'm terribly disorganised so never plan more than a couple of days in advance really.

So far plan this week is:

Tonight
Chicken and Jerusalem artichoke risotto

Tuesday
Pancakes with savoury mince filling and sweet pancakes for pud

Wednesday
Lamb shanks in slow-cooker/Slow roast pork belly

storminabuttercup · 07/03/2011 16:44
