I don't plan a specific meal for each day unless there's a particular reason to (guests, busy evening, etc); I just write a list of meals for the week and decide which one I'm doing on the day/day before.

This week will involve:
home made pizzas
Cajun salmon
jacket potatoes
rack of lamb
tuna bake
Quorn meatballs & spaghetti

  • all with veg, and rice/couscous/potatoes etc if needed

Please share your plan ......

Thursday - toad in the hole, mash and veg

That's the plan for the week but things do get swapped round - and it also reminds me to get frozen things out to defrost the night before. Also I always make a big batch of freezable meals as they're good backups for those days I can't be bothered to cook from scratch!

lou33 · 01/03/2011 19:31

I am trying to spend as little as possible this week so using up stuff in the freezer.

Yesterday was chicken pasta bake
Today is pork steaks baked in the oven with a tomato sauce topped with cheese, and rice
Tomorrow is toad in the hole with mash
Thurs is burgers
Fri will be fish fingers (buy one get 2 free in sainsburys)

This menu means i have only had to spend £30 for 5 or 6 of us, depending on if my bf is here, for a week

clippityclop · 01/03/2011 21:56

BuongiornoPrincipessa · 02/03/2011 10:05

Potato and pea curry a success, very quick recipe for a curry, although I think I cooked the potatoes slightly too long as it was a bit mushier than the picture.

franch · 02/03/2011 10:10

Thanks BuongiornoPrincipessa! Realised when you posted the recipe that I'd printed it out a while ago and never done it! Glad to know it's good. Will try it soon.

franch · 06/03/2011 16:57

A lot of you are into Jamie's 30 min meals I see! Am almost persuaded ... The recipes looked really oddly laid-out when I looked before, which put me off - I wouldn't necessarily always want to cook a whole meal from a book, whereas it looks like you can't pick and choose accompaniments etc. But I'm going to have another look now ...

How long do you find they actually take? (not 30 mins, I'm guessing)

Anyway this week:
meatballs and spaghetti
chicken tikka masala
salad platter (including goat's cheese, stilton, grapes, apple, sunflower seeds, pecans, ham, anchovies, little gems etc)
tuna pasta
baked potatoes
spicy salmon

OP posts:
lou33 · 06/03/2011 18:46

franch, i bought the 30 min meal book recently, though i havent tried any recipes yet.

the way it is laid out is to show you what to do and when, so you can supposedly have it all done in the 30 mins

i can see how this might work if you are doing the whole menu, but if you are just picking and choosing then you have to work it out for yourself, which is where you might come undone

i was watching a bunch of the 30 min programmes back to back on the tv today, and he does make it look incredibly simple

did you make the chicken katsu in the end?

my food menu so far is

yesterday - japanese creamy chicken with mushrooms and soy sauce, topped with spring onions, and rice

today - pasta and red pesto

tomorrow - burgers ( i didnt do them last week in the end so put them in the freezer)

tuesday - beef casserole

wednesday - something with minced beef

and after that i havent thought about
