Dd is 15. i’m 48. We like watching films together — both her choices and mine. Of my list, that I enjoyed as a teen, we have watched:
Dirty Dancing
10 things I hate about you
Robin Hood Prince of thieves
Batman returns (with Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer)
Clueless
Legally Blonde
The Breakfast Club
Beetlejuice
Heathers
Back to the future

I’m sure there are more… but what would you add to this list?

Beaches

Matrix is still important to share, and T2 (2032 might be more significant than we thought back then!), End of Days and the other one about that time that cloned animals (Sixth Day??). I know we want to watch and enjoy time with our kids, but these are also good for discussing things that are even more relevant now.

DoubtfulCat · 18/10/2026 08:29

Dracula might be a good shout too. She’s started to enjoy horror recently so maybe It as well 🤔

We have seen all the Friends episodes, fair play that was a quality series even on a rewatch. Some cringe but some very good moments as well.

Flipper (a bit younger but I loved dolphins!)
Speed
Mission Impossible
Men in Black
Miss Congeniality
Never been kissed
Legally Blonde
10 things I hate about you
Bridget Jones (think a little later, but still roughly that time)
Happy Gilmore
Forest Gump

I think Bridget Jones is a bad choice. All that "needing" a man and body issues is not suitable

Pretty Woman!

No way..... glamourising selling your body. The saviour a rich man. No way would I let my daughter see that.

What was that film called with 2 sets of twins that got swapped at birth and grew up with completely different lives? Not the Lindsay Lohan one. I think Bette Middler was one of the actresses 🤔

Big Business? I loved that

Ferris Buellers day off
The breakfast club
St Elmo's Fire
The Outsiders

boxofshite · 18/10/2026 18:15

Sexism was more overt in these films but at least a lot of the women looked more realistic without a ton of surgery & aesthetics. Sexism is still very prevalent today.

Sueandthegoldfish · 18/10/2026 19:05

When mine were teens they wanted to watch The Exorcist as they knew it was the first horror film I’d seen (—snook into underage—).
I bought it on DVD and they watched it. The only comment was why was there so much bad language ? 🙄

MyRubyFox · 18/10/2026 19:06

Top Gun. Loved the music.

Not sure if anyone has answered this but it is big business with Bette Midler and Lily Tomlinson, it’s currently streaming on Disney plus. I absolutely love that film.

Our local theatre showed that on a big screen when my daughter was about 18. She absolutely loved it, both the story and the Thelma and Louise's style. It's an amazing film.

A Room With A View, The Age of Innocence and the Gwyneth Paltrow Emma are all worth a watch.
