Dd is 15. i’m 48. We like watching films together — both her choices and mine. Of my list, that I enjoyed as a teen, we have watched:
Dirty Dancing
10 things I hate about you
Robin Hood Prince of thieves
Batman returns (with Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer)
Clueless
Legally Blonde
The Breakfast Club
Beetlejuice
Heathers
Back to the future

I’m sure there are more… but what would you add to this list?

I don't think we've had Desperately Seeking Susan yet.

Worth watching for the brilliant outfits alone!

Has anyone watched Bad Boys, Twins or Three Men and a Baby in the last few years? Haven’t seen them for decades so not sure what they are like now but loved them back in the day.

Edited

I watched Three Men and A Baby and Three Men and a Little Girl with my child a few months ago. She was 12. It was just as good as years ago. And she really loved them too!

Flight of the Navigator.

Lost Boys is probably my favourite film ever. I absolutely love it.

Ponoka7 · 17/10/2026 20:18

Also at 15, my DD's could have watched poltergeist. Edward Scissorhands, a few Johnny Depp films. Coming to America, Trading Places (quite a few Eddie Murphy films).

Just came on again to say Fame!!! How could I forget that - I was obsessed with it 🤦‍♀️

Also, The Shawshank Redemption is very good.

Meredusoleil · 17/10/2026 20:21

And all the other films by the same director (whose name escapes me now) eg Notting Hill, About a boy etc.

VenusThighTrap · 17/10/2026 20:21

my teens love watching films with us but would die at the sex scenes in Four Weddings and Basic Instinct!

My 15yo loves Speed, the Bourne films, 10 Things I Hate About You, River Wild.

going back further - Tremors was brilliant fun and turned the kids into Kevin Bacon fans.

I once heard my kids howling with laughter so went in to see what they were watching and was amazed to find it was George and Mildred (the film not the series). They also loved Auf wiedershen Pet and Father Ted

GellerYeller · 17/10/2026 20:28

Mine love Notting Hill, Love Actually and Bridget Jones- although it’s now an Instagram joke that Bridget isn’t fat, works in media, has a London flat plus Colin and Hugh- hardly the epic fail the 90s told us!
Anither vote for Edward Scissorhands.
We tried Trading Places and Coming to America but they didn’t hold up well under Gen Z ethics!
For Top Gun;Maverick fans, Ice Man’s wife is the elder daughter from Uncle Buck!

I've just remembered My Girl which made me cry so much at the time.
I have tried a few and she liked Beetlejuice but most of them she turns to me in horror when things happen and asks if that was "normal back then" - as pp said they haven't aged well and the lack of women in higher ranks of film studios is pretty obvious. I might try The Craft though as I seem to remember that being quite on the nose for it's time.

Gothwife · 17/10/2026 20:35

I have found my film people!

I forgot we have seen Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure (must watch Bogus Journey).
on list for half term is The Lost Boys and Pump Up The Volume.

we watched 4 weddings before my wedding 😂

we saw gremlins and ghostbusters. And also Monty Pythons Holy Grail.
she watches Jurassic park and all Marvel films anyway, plus Star Wars.

I haven’t seen some of these myself, like Romancing the Stone. But maybe top gun, with a hefty dose of irony and political/feminist commentary. (To be fair she is used to me 😂)

keep them coming 🙏

I can’t imagine a teenager wanting to watch anything with their parents but I’ll play along

Top Gun
About Last Night
The Sure Thing
Say Anything
Working Girl
Witness
The Fugitive
Basic Instinct

I could go on for ages

Watched Cars last night, and Toy Story 5 then 1 with 14 and 16 year old boys, we’re going through a retro thing. I feel Nemo might be on the cards later this weekend.

DS14 has been exploring male relationships. We’ve done high fidelity and grosse point blank as a double bill. Also done swingers and clerks in his own, but was good to talk about after and now have mutual terms of reference.

defo looking at beetle juice for Halloween

Iocanepowder · 17/10/2026 20:39

As you’ve watched Prince of Thieves, you now have to watch Men in Tights.
