Dd is 15. i’m 48. We like watching films together — both her choices and mine. Of my list, that I enjoyed as a teen, we have watched:
Dirty Dancing
10 things I hate about you
Robin Hood Prince of thieves
Batman returns (with Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer)
Clueless
Legally Blonde
The Breakfast Club
Beetlejuice
Heathers
Back to the future

I’m sure there are more… but what would you add to this list?

Planes trains and automobiles. Parenthood. Both brilliant films with Steve Martin ❤️
Also on my favourite list are war games. Gremlins. Ghostbusters 🤣🤣

No teen to share them with but

  • Teen Wolf
  • Ferris Bueller's Day Off
  • Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
Waitingfordoggo · 17/10/2026 19:40

Ours enjoyed: Wayne’s World, The Princess Bride, Austin Powers, Bill & Ted, Parenthood, So I Married an Axe Murderer.

Aside from films, one of ours also loved Friends and has watched all of them.

Eumaybe · 17/10/2026 19:40

I’ve tried a few with my teens and…. they didn’t age very well! The misogyny, normalised sexual assaults, blunt racism… 😱 we had to stop watching. Can’t remember all we tried, but Back to the future was one of them.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 17/10/2026 19:40

Pretty in Pink

Whatever you do, not watch Weird Science!!

I remembered it being so popular and couldn't wait to show DD.

It was absolutely awful as a rewatch 😂

I certainly did not remember it being so rude and sexist!!

My daughter asked why I was making her watch it 😂

St Elmo's fire

Waitingfordoggo · 17/10/2026 19:40

Oh yes, Ferris Bueller too!

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 17/10/2026 19:41

The Breakfast Club
The Outsiders

ColinOfficeTrolley · 17/10/2026 19:41

100% agree with @Eumaybe

They haven't really aged well at all.

Cathmawr · 17/10/2026 19:42

Happy gilmore. I remember guiltily loving 'she's all that' as a teen but I bet it hasn't aged well 🙈

DungareesTrombonesDinos · 17/10/2026 19:42

All excellent suggestions OP! I started watching Heather's with teen DD who was not terribly interested until Christian Slater came on screen. Then she was gripped 😂

Princess Bride is still amazing.

Silverbirchleaf · 17/10/2026 19:43

St Elmo's fire

Omg I loved St. Elmo's Fire as a teen and still love the title theme song when I hear it on the radio. Think I had a crush on Rob Lowe but also thought Demo Moore was gorgeous too 😍

In fact, all the Rat Pack films were great imho. About Last Night was another one. Rob Lowe again 🥰

JaneJeffer · 17/10/2026 19:45

I can’t imagine a teenager wanting to watch anything with their parents but I’ll play along

Top Gun
About Last Night
The Sure Thing
Say Anything
Working Girl
Witness
The Fugitive
Basic Instinct

I could go on for ages

Diversion · 17/10/2026 19:47

The Crow, Lost Boys, The Craft

tarheelbaby · 17/10/2026 19:47

TOP GUN - top film really!
after we watched Top Gun 2 a few times she wanted to see the original and agrees that it far surpasses the new version.
We have also watched
Breakfast Club
10 Things I hate
So I Married an Axe Murderer
Dirty Dancing
Four Weddings

She watched 16 Candles on her birthday ...
We have also enjoyed Gosford Park. DD2 can cope with dialogue.
DD1 enjoyed Jurassic Park.

Meredusoleil · 17/10/2026 19:48

Flatliners
The Gremlins
Ghostbusters
Indiana Jones
Star Wars
Romancing the stone + Jewel of the Nile
Any Danny De Vito films tbh - eg. Twins.

Agree - although I thought Back to the Future was not so bad. I love Grease but it has bad messaging throughout and I was somehow oblivious and, fortunately, immune to it.
Even Raiders of the Lost Ark had overt sexism.

Redheadedstepchild · 17/10/2026 19:49

What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

Although not exactly a feelgood movie.

noworklifebalance · 17/10/2026 19:49

Jurassic Park is brilliant as is The Fugitive.
Loved Men in Black as well

noworklifebalance · 17/10/2026 19:50

Stand by me
Speed
The Matrix
Bill & Ted’s Excellenf Adventure - educational
