Dd is 15. i’m 48. We like watching films together — both her choices and mine. Of my list, that I enjoyed as a teen, we have watched:
Dirty Dancing
10 things I hate about you
Robin Hood Prince of thieves
Batman returns (with Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer)
Clueless
Legally Blonde
The Breakfast Club
Beetlejuice
Heathers
Back to the future

I’m sure there are more… but what would you add to this list?

Not a film (I think everyone's mentioned them all!), but we love watching Friends. Over an over again.. They early ones are a real insight into the late 90's..

10 Things I hate about you
Clueless
Back to The future trilogy
Grease (I know it’s technically 70s)
Save the Last Dance (technically early 00s)
Adventures in Babysitting
Point Break
Speed

I watched Twins. Will have to watch 3 men and a baby again now!

Another one is the Kirstie Alley and John Travolta films: "Look who's talking".

Oh yes! Is that the one that begins with the sperm racing to the egg?!

noworklifebalance · 17/10/2026 20:04

Short circuit
Karate Kid (the original obvs)

Folkwhore · 17/10/2026 20:04

What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

Although not exactly a feelgood movie.

It has a positive ending!

Meredusoleil · 17/10/2026 20:07

Oh I loved Karate Kid. Also fancied Ralph Macchio. He has aged well too, as looked him up a few years ago! There is a newer version with Jayden Smith.

Mr Miyagi " wax on, wax off" 😍

I can’t imagine a teenager wanting to watch anything with their parents but I’ll play along

Top Gun
About Last Night
The Sure Thing
Say Anything
Working Girl
Witness
The Fugitive
Basic Instinct

I could go on for ages

Our teens (16 and 14) love a family movie night, although they may not want to watch Basic Instinct with their parents 😆

RikthePoet · 17/10/2026 20:08

Stand By Me
STRICTLY BALLROOM!!!

Angleordemmo · 17/10/2026 20:08

Groundhog Day? Not a teen film, I suppose.

It’s your job to embarrass them!

Great thread @DoubtfulCat - going to write the suggestions from this thread including the ones dragged from the depths of my memory.

labtest57 · 17/10/2026 20:10

Made mine watch Pretty in Pink, which she though was terrible. Flight of the Navigator, The Lost Boys and Ferris Bueller were appreciated.

Oh, no thanks, not in this cringy awkward way - they will never trust us to watch films with them again!

Also loved Arnold Schwartzenegger (sp)!

All the Rocky films (but not Rambo), as loved Sylvester Stallone. Not sure they would translate well into the current day and age though 🤔

My teen DD loved, Stop or my Mom will shoot!
Is she mature enough for the teen horror films, sleepaway camp?
Harry and the Henderson's, Footloose hasn't been mentioned. My DD liked War of the roses, after watching Jewel of the Nile.

Sparkletastic · 17/10/2026 20:12

Desperately Seeking Susan

Goodmorningeveryone26 · 17/10/2026 20:12

Ghost. I watched it again the other day and it’s aged really well
