Ding fucking Dong!

What a lovely, if emotional watch.

Favourite bits:

Bridget getting her diary and pen out again and the film “truly” starting.

“Modern Love” dance with the kids.

Flash backs to Mark.

Cleaver remembering he has an estranged son and making contact.

🤣🤣 Tesco meal deal faux pas

🤣🤣🤣 “I had the most amazing sex” in front of a studio audience

Daniel and Bridget’s relationship now.

🥲🥲🥲 Bridget’s dad in his last days.

🥲🥲 Bridget realising that the relationship with Roxter cannot continue

🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲 “I’ll do anything”

I can completely see a private school taking kids to the Lake District

Maybe but not:
for the day
in a tiny retro bus with no loo

Again, it's not a documentary. It's also utterly bizarre that her gynaecologist sees her as a GP/therapist but it makes for a good story.

Indeed. Or that you could just walk back into a job after god knows how many years off.

I’ve just been to see this and I loved it! I always thought it was just a clichè when people said ‘I laughed and I cried’ but I literally did both and I don’t think I’ve ever done that before in a film. Yes, there were lots of things that just wouldn’t really happen in real life (the school trip!) but I was enjoying it so much those things didn’t matter to me. Loved Leo Woodall in it.

Honestly, this didn’t bother me. I know a lot of people who have been offered jobs by people who they used to work with. Taking a break from work wouldn’t make a difference if you know a person’s skills and abilities.

DreamingofBrie · 01/03/2025 16:07

I loved it, grew up with Bridget and I'm very fond of her. Yes, some bits were unbelievable but I'm not a great sceptic in the cinema.

I loved all of the scenes with Emma Thompson and RZ made me cry with laughter in the lips scene. I also cried when she was talking to Mark whilst going through his stuff.

Thornybush · 01/03/2025 16:34

Like a pp I would have liked to have seen her on her own at the end. It's good to show younger, impressionable girls that you don't always need to be in a relationship to be jappy. Saying that they probably wanted her to get her happy ever after. But a little flirt with the headmaster would have been enough. It always goes ott . Also it's quite unbelievable that Bridgid is so irresistible to the opposite sex. Even a supermodel wouldn't have that many admirers!

Desperado40 · 02/03/2025 10:43

It was enjoyable and good mix between funny and sentimental. Some things too obvious (the owl, come on!).
One thing I could not get over was BJ hair. It's was such a mess. It though at some point she'd just have it cut or coloured. 😅Obviously it made it a a bit unbelievable how everyone was lusting for her. Overall, sweet movie and I enjoyed it a lot.

LindorDoubleChoc · 02/03/2025 20:28

Yes, I was exasperated by her hair and I am the least appearance focused individual you can imagine.

user111222 · 02/03/2025 20:49

I've just seen it tonight. Loved it but found it so depressing. Felt that the overall message was if you don't have kids you're not complete and as someone who is childless (and well past it!) I found it rather emotional to say the least!

Did anyone else wonder where Shazza and the other mates kids and partners had gone. They were featured in Bridget jones baby but no sign in this one. Now even at the New Year’s party. I don’t think they were even mentioned unless I missed something.

also there could have been a mention of jack even if it was a reference to him as they all seemed to be good mates at the end of the last film

Yes I wondered this! that whole thing about Tom and his dp adopting and Shazza's dh and dcs

I loooooove Bridget, but have mixed feelings about this film. I cried a lot and thought it dealt with death/widowhood/grief very well.

Loved RZ as goofy Bridget - just like in the first film, and loved HG - the ultimate cad. The scenes with Bridget's dad were very moving and there were also some real laugh out loud moments. Shazza and Emma Thompson were wonderful. The scenes with Colin Firth were also very tear-jerking. Loved the balloon scene.

However, the owl was awful and I really didn't buy the chemistry with her and the teacher. That seemed contrived. Jude and Tom were pretty scary - thank God for Shazza!

I bouhjt it. I think it showed that she went for the serious, rule abiding uptight types like Darcy.

I thought the owl was lovely ...I'll get my coat.

'Seeing the bird' after loss is an Irish thing- although I can't find it by googling... I can't remember whether it was seen the actual spirit of the deceased or a messenger to them.

Redspottyfrog · 04/03/2025 08:34

Yes I thought for goodness sake women just brush your hair.

joose · 04/03/2025 12:49

RZ seemed stuck in her characterisation of 1990's Bridget. It was as though Bridget hadn't moved on in 30 years. She was still the scatty, daft woman from the original with no development. There were a few downright stupid moments too like the condoms
in the pharmacy, the camping in a random barn, ridiculous hair etc etc etc

curiositykilledthiscat · 05/03/2025 13:20

I finally saw it yesterday and have mixed feelings.

I found it moving in parts, loved the music choices and nods to the previous films. Leila Farzad nailed Nicolette and it was nice to see the usually underused Josette Simon in a big-ish film role.

I noticed the screenwriters played down the age difference between Roxster and Bridget (possibly to make the film more appealing to audiences and therefore more sellable?). That was annoying, and there should have been more of him because I felt nothing when she found out he ghosted her and she eventually dumped him - the character development wasn't there and should have been.

Surely there has to be tons of footage they didn't use otherwise how to explain the likes of BAFTA winner Joanna Scanlan saying four lines or whatever?

But worst of all is the miscasting of Chiwetel Ejiofor - I didn't buy him in this role and there was no chemistry with him and RZ. I didn't give a shit that Scott and Bridget got together at the end

BridgetJonesesOwl · 10/03/2025 04:39

Watched it yesterday with the same best friend that I watched the original 1st BJ film with -so it felt like old times.

Honestly I think the film could have done with an extra 15 to 30 mins of Mr Walliker's slow growing appreciation of Bridget.

Liked the toy boy Roxter as it reminded me of my hot summer fling last year with a 30 yr old compared to my 47 yr old. He got too serious so I let him go.

Cried & laughed loads.

I know Helen Fielding said that's the last Bridge film but I do have an idea for Bridget Jones's Teenagers!

kinkytoes · 11/03/2025 07:28

No I just didn't get the attraction with the teacher. Didn't feel a thing, as I did with CF and HG. What a waste!!

I thought the plan was to sleep in the barn all along.

Sorry but the barn owl was miscast. Barn owls don't hoot. e

Also, there was nothing touched on about the effect of her break up with Rocksta on the children. They would definitely have been affected.

I've just watched this, off sick from work.

I've also grown up with Bridget, and I loved it. I lived all the references to the previous films, keeping the same characters too, frightening school mums! My dad died when I was in my early 20s, and the moment in the hospital with him was poignant. Then the realisation that DM was widowed with 2 children hit home too (DDad died when I was 20something, but was too ill to participate fully in life from when I was 12). DM has talked of DDad's ghost beside her when she needed him. From that perspective, it was very well done.

Betterdaysahead5 · 08/05/2025 19:39

Very late to the party but LOVED this and wasn’t expecting to at all!. Recently lost my Dad and got dumped so it resonated all the more. Getting through grief while looking after your family and their own grief is so beautifully portrayed. I thought the kids were the best kid actors I’ve ever seen. I cannot believe what a natural performance Mila Jankovic as Mabel gave. Was stunned. I hope we see more of her and Casper Knopf in more films to come . Anyone know how they cast them? My only criticism was the Roxter story dragged on a bit and I thought the work stuff was a bit stuck on and didn’t need to be so much of it. Would have liked to see more development of the kids around the love interests, especially Mr Walliker but that’s probably because that is something I’d like films to explore more as a single mum (and a crush on Chiwetel Ejiofor) . Gutted I didn’t see it in the cinema and really think they should go for BJ 5 with this talent. I love the idea of growing with all of them. Even Hugh Grant and the Italian son and Miranda :)

Billi80 · 10/05/2025 11:50

Loved the kids best too. Casper Knopf has done stuff before and I heard somewhere that Mila Jankovic came through an open casting search from a kids theatre school in London. The casting was perfection.
