Ding fucking Dong!

What a lovely, if emotional watch.

Favourite bits:

Bridget getting her diary and pen out again and the film “truly” starting.

“Modern Love” dance with the kids.

Flash backs to Mark.

Cleaver remembering he has an estranged son and making contact.

🤣🤣 Tesco meal deal faux pas

🤣🤣🤣 “I had the most amazing sex” in front of a studio audience

Daniel and Bridget’s relationship now.

🥲🥲🥲 Bridget’s dad in his last days.

🥲🥲 Bridget realising that the relationship with Roxter cannot continue

🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲 “I’ll do anything”

Thank you, @KittyQuestions34 - another poster put me out of my misery and identified it as Ce Matin la by Air shortly after - thank you, too, @TurquoiseDress. Moon Safari is indeed an awesome album!

Oh yeah of course!! I was getting my trombones mixed up 😂

Wildbird12 · 20/02/2025 11:29

I was disappointed with this film...it was so predictable and cliched.

ThatsNotMyTeen · 20/02/2025 11:31

I liked it, I thought Daniel Cleaver particularly was great!

Easter eggs are often now hidden in plain sight, alluding to what has happened before...the most ambitious of this was the finale of Inside No.9 which went into double figures with an allusion in every scene. A love letter to the fans.

Edited

Off topic but I loved the latest series of Am I Being Unreasonable with Kurtan and Kerry from Our Country turning up in the local shop doing a bit of shoplifting. Perfect Easter egg

dayswithaY · 20/02/2025 23:20

Rockster’s cringe dance moves at the party!

RIdiculous school trip - breaking into a barn and sleeping in there with kids.

Florally · 20/02/2025 23:38

I loved the film, perfect mix of emotional and funny.

But her hair!!! My DD and I just kept saying to each other how terrible her hair was with that one weird bit at the front. So distracting.

TurquoiseDress · 21/02/2025 00:13

Ding fucking dong indeed! Grin

Honestly all the comments in stupid male Guardian review, and a bit on here as well, finding fault with Bridget having an age gap fling and totally ignoring Daniel Cleaver’s shows how sexism is still so engrained in our society.

Guardian refers to Hugh as “ageing golden hearted cad” but Renee as “cradle snatcher”.

Shazza would have had a field day with him. That was my fave scene - Shazza monstering the sexist old smug marrieds at the awful memorial dinner party.

Saw this last night, it was ok but not alot of lol moments. A bit sad in places but I found her facial expressions so annoying and distracting, I couldn't tell if she was smiling, upset or just sucking lemons. Didn't get the chemistry with the teacher, also found it odd and rushed towards the end. Definitely not as good as I was expecting.

rookiemere · 21/02/2025 10:49

I agree her hair was a bit of a distraction. Ditto the turning up for school drop off in pjs - not so much ditsy and just plain unappealing and slightly negligent.

Not so much of a departure from the other films where it was slightly hard to believe that so many desirable men were throwing themselves at her due to her gurning face and wacky gestures.

FanofLeaves · 21/02/2025 12:21

I thought the same in the book about getting together with the teacher tbh, there wasn’t a huge amount of believable build up to it.

RedHelenB · 21/02/2025 16:11

Definitely better then film no.3.i enjoyed it more than I thought I was going to.

I've asked this on the non-spoiler thread, too: I watched the film last night and I'm trawling through soundtrack listings looking for one of the songs. I recognised it and love it, but I can't remember what it is, and it doesn't appear in any of the soundtrack lists I've found. It's instrumental and electronic-ish, I think. It played fairly early on in scenes in her house. Does anyone know which song I'm talking about? I'm getting desperate.

The sweetest gift? When they were being put to bed?

Shakey2022 · 21/02/2025 17:40

Listening to Ce matin-là now after reading this thread 😍

NetZeroZealot · 22/02/2025 07:55

I enjoyed it. There were some very jokes, tinged with sadness too. Good combo.
a few things annoyed me:
The kids sharing bunk beds in the same room. That must have been a 4-bedroom house. They’d have had their own rooms at that age!
The friends drinking blue cocktails . They’d have had Aperol Spritz or Negronis now.
Bridget walking back into her old job so easily.
Getting it on with the teacher. I thought that wasn’t allowed! Or at least very discouraged …
Enjoyed Hugh Grant, he’s the same age as my DH but looks a lot older…

rookiemere · 22/02/2025 08:11

@NetZeroZealot on the DCs sharing the room, I wondered about that but then thought that maybe they chose to because of their DF dying and they wanted to be close or maybe it made the scenes with the DM easier because both DCs in same room.

Billi80 · 22/02/2025 09:08

Why the issue with a 9 and 6 year old sharing a room? Just curious! Aside from fact it would have made some very lovely and important scenes impossible to do

I think people think a house that size would have enough bedrooms for one each. As PP says, I think they would have wanted to.

Rugbyrover · 22/02/2025 10:16

There's no rule against teachers and parents having relationships! What law would that break?

The blue cocktails were a nod to her blue soup and orange marmalade in the first film 😀

Toddlerteaplease · 22/02/2025 11:36

Saw it yesterday with some of my work colleagues. (All nurses) we all noticed that the syringe in Bridget's dad's syringe driver wasn't labelled and we all winced when she sat on the clean bed next to Daniel. Other than that we enjoyed it. But why were the kids sharing a room in that huge house, and what did she live off if she wasn't working?

Toddlerteaplease · 22/02/2025 11:38

I thought the scenes with the other school
Parents were peak Mumsnet.

Rugbyrover · 22/02/2025 11:47

I would imagine her husband left her well provided for, with regards to why she didn't work

OctoberandApril · 22/02/2025 12:14

I thought Mark's life insurance would have been quite impressive.
