Ding fucking Dong!

What a lovely, if emotional watch.

Favourite bits:

Bridget getting her diary and pen out again and the film “truly” starting.

“Modern Love” dance with the kids.

Flash backs to Mark.

Cleaver remembering he has an estranged son and making contact.

🤣🤣 Tesco meal deal faux pas

🤣🤣🤣 “I had the most amazing sex” in front of a studio audience

Daniel and Bridget’s relationship now.

🥲🥲🥲 Bridget’s dad in his last days.

🥲🥲 Bridget realising that the relationship with Roxter cannot continue

🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲 “I’ll do anything”

OP posts:

Loved it. I got so emotional thinking back to the 90s when I went to the cinema with my friends to watch the first one. I just loved having all the characters together. And I cried every time Colin Firth was on screen. The lips were the funniest bit in my opinion😂

Yeah, I was a bit wtf at her cameo, tbh. Why her?!

edited to say I like her, but never heard her mentioned or anything so I didn’t get it. Also, why did they pick Ricky Gervais to be the showbiz diva with his rider demands? Maybe he’s really easy going and just asks for a can of coke!

Edited

Yes! Both of those felt like an in-joke of some sort.

Kneeboobs · 14/02/2025 21:20

Oh my,wasn't expecting such a tearjerker.
I've bawled my eyes out.
The meal deal bit had me cringing and dying of embarrassment for her 😬

thefemaleJoshLyman · 14/02/2025 23:38

Absolutely loved it. Laughed out loud and sobbed. Thought it was a lovely look at life after loss. The scenes with her Dad were so sad, my Dad is not well at the moment and it really hit home. My eyes are quite swollen.

Karmaisagod · 15/02/2025 08:26

I think I must be very childish because i laughed like a loon at the condoms bit. And as soon as she started filling her basket I said to my friend "Mr Walliker will show up."

What was the meal deal?

What was the meal deal?

Toe curlingly funny was what it was!😂
She went to pay for her sandwich and crisps and the guy at the till asked if she'd like a drink (to go with the meal deal as the drink was free!)
She went all coy and ooh I don't know, yes maybe - then died inside as she realised it actually was just a meal deal conversation!🫣😱
We've all been there.. haven't we?! Just for a moment?!😆

Britpopbaby · 15/02/2025 16:42

I thought it was by far the best of the sequel and matched the first film in terms of hilarity. I’ve “grown up” with Bridget so it feels sad to see her go. I was crying as it pulled at the heart strings. Hats off to everyone involved.

upinaballoon · 15/02/2025 17:01

I enjoyed it. Sad and funny. It's good that everyone you wanted to see was still there, and older, like us, since Mark kissed her in the snow. Emma Thompson scenes were super. Bless Billy's heart. He'll be OK.

sweatervest · 15/02/2025 17:47

i laughed at cleaver in the first scene but after that i didn't like it at all.
why did she introduce leo person's character to the kids so soon? why was the science teacher on the gate in school every morning. i saw the woman who played beatrice or eugenie from the windsors - why wasn't she written into it more? why did bridget order four glasses of wine in the pub and not just get a bottle? why wasn't her mum and celia imrie in it more?

why did the kids share a bedroom? i saw that dan mazer was one of the writers - he did borat/bruno/i give it a year and they were all very funny so how come he couldn't have got funnier stuff into the film?
i thought betterman was the best film ive seen ever so maybe i had too much expectation having seen that literally 2 weeks ago.

i wanted to really like it but i didn't

Thanks, I'd forgotten about that.

I am sympathetically disposed to Bridget and always will be but I didn’t think it was great.

Daniel Cleaver - you just wouldn’t let in your life at this age and around kids- dirty bitch etc. just no. He was sinister.

The sad bits were great but there were a lot of them.

Liked her hair colour and her house. And yes London looked great. Actually the more I think about it, the more things I can recall being good (the music was good also) but while watching it I was a bit bored. Mind you it was very long, wasn’t it.

Her accent was very posh. Posher than ever?

I found Billy very believable as Mark Darcy’s son - he resembled him.

Having been on school trips, the idea that they would sit in silence toasting marshmallows and then trot silently off to Bedfordshire once prompted was not quite in keeping with my experience.

I think RZ is definitely a good sport doing the lips because while funny, they didn’t look totally incongruous with the actual surgery she has had.

NotOnThe · 15/02/2025 20:11

As a widow it was sad. Has to hold back tears as I was with a group of friends.

MrsPeterHarris · 15/02/2025 22:20

Loved all of it. Laughed out loud & also cried bucket loads! Great music and seeing all the old characters back!

xsquared · 15/02/2025 22:56

I just came back from watching this with a friend, and didn't expect to cry as much as I did.

Leo Woodall was, well, just Dexter from One Day.

I've always had a soft spot for Chiwetel Ejiofor and was disappointed that he was a supporting character - without knowing the book plot, but of course he was featured more in the second half as he's the true love!

Loved the supporting cast - Josie Parker, Sally Phillips who looks fab, Emma Thompson was fantastic too, and really liked Leila Farzad as Perfect Nicolette who was in Kaos as Ariadne recently.

The scene with Jim Broadbent was lovely. Just father and daughter having a special moment before he departs, and telling her to live, not just survive.
Even more tears when Brodget was going through Mark's things before his birthday, caressing his watch against her cheek.

I don't know whether my friend even noticed me crying thank goodness!

ThePuppyHasZoomiesAgain · 15/02/2025 23:57

It was great.

Very cheesy and as unrealistic as the others.

Not that that is a problem. Suspending one's disbelief is a prerequisite for all the Bridget Jones films.

I disliked Daniel even more than what I did in the other films. But at least in this one he was trying trying shag Bridget.

My favourite bits were when Mark Darcy's ghost made an appearance.

Was looking forward to it but had the same bored experience as a pp. hated the owl - why would it fly off as if Darcy has been replaced? So much clunky stuff and the Easter eggs felt wedged in and incongruous. The jumper was nice but if it was Darcy's it wouldn't have been the right size. Couldn't believe anyone would find Bridget irresistible with the ditsy act, in real life the un brushed hair and pajama wearing would be weird.
Agree on Cleaver the whole dirty bitch thing was gross and his son was revolting at the end not sure if they were going for charming but that missed the mark.

greengreyblue · 16/02/2025 07:38

Went last night with my DD who was only 4 when the first film came out! We were not prepared and had no tissues! You could’ve heard a pin drop in the cinema at certain points.
I would’ve liked an explanation for Daniel’s ‘death’ and O would’ve like Renee to stop walking and moving her face so weirdly . Other than that, it as a good watch.

He actually said ‘Do you want to go for a drink’ and nobody says that so a bit silly really.

stonkytonk11 · 16/02/2025 07:45

I thought it was ok. Some funny bits but the meal deal joke for example has been done so saw that coming. The teacher was not a good match, there's no way she'd find him attractive and the whole school /teacher thing just came across like a children's tv programme. Some great acting and the kids were fab but it just felt a bit sad and flat to me...

I've asked this on the non-spoiler thread, too: I watched the film last night and I'm trawling through soundtrack listings looking for one of the songs. I recognised it and love it, but I can't remember what it is, and it doesn't appear in any of the soundtrack lists I've found. It's instrumental and electronic-ish, I think. It played fairly early on in scenes in her house. Does anyone know which song I'm talking about? I'm getting desperate.

Glass Animals? Toes.
I like them anyway so recognised their sound.

Thanks, @ConstantlyFuriosa remembered it was Ce Matin-la by Air. Lovely song.

This is interesting as I was disappointed in the book and felt it was really all over the place (the writing of her play ‘the leaves in his hair’ and not knowing who wrote Hedda Gabler or something I think it was, at the time it really annoyed me)

But reading this thread has actually made me want to see the film take on it.

Yes it is actually very much based on the storyline from the Mad about the Boy book.

But they've pulled it together so tightly it's absolutely brilliant.

The book was such a disappointment. I got the feeling that they hadn't edited it at all, just published the first draft that was submitted.

But you should definitely not write off the film based on the book- it's so heartwarming 😊

I just want to live there and be one of her friends!
